digg v4 sucks!
but don't let this BS make you miss the Oatmeal

telekenesisAug 31, 2010
So The Oatmeal really is hiring spammers to get his s**t out. I read on reddit from a person in the trade he was.
oatmealAug 31, 2010
Huh?
grafenbergSep 1, 2010
I've been suspecting this for a while now.
jadrianSep 1, 2010
I don't get your profile when I search for "oatmeal", I like the new digg but they sure have lots of fixing to do...
robertwrightAug 31, 2010
Welcome to the New Digg v4, I hope you love our RSS Feed Spammer community from Reddit, Mashables, TechCrunch, engadget, readwriteweb and our Biggest Spammer Ever 'Leo Laporte'!
This is a Dream come true for our CEO and founder Kevin Rose, please leave him a comment of what you think of his brilliant idea!
Enjoy our loving community

Bring back old preV4digg. ={
telekenesisAug 31, 2010
They can't, an old IT guy that used to work for the site said becuase of the nature of the rollout they cannot go back. They are in a terrible position, but you would think with such a major change to even the most basic tenants of your site they wouldn't go ahead without a backup plan. They're screwed. This will go down in history of one of the hugest fails to ever happen and what completely selling out can do to a website.
thefirewireAug 31, 2010
v3 was live when v4 beta was running parallel on a testing address.
If they didn't make backups of v3 before switching to v4 then what does that say about Digg? How can they not revert back to a version of the site that is only a week old? unless they just wrote over the old infrastructure in which I again ask, what does that say about Digg?
Frankly I think they just don't want to revert back, It would cost a lot of money and time to do so, plus a lot of info would get lost in the shuffle including all the user related comments and diggs between now and the v4 rollout.
grafenbergSep 1, 2010
BS give me access to the database and a copy of the old schema and I'll have the new data migrated in a week and we can go back to digging real USER SUBMITTED content.
JackkerSep 1, 2010
I guess you could say Digg buried all old versions of their revisions, never to be seen, heard, nor spoken of again.
yurimxpxmanSep 1, 2010
"a lot of info would get lost in the shuffle including all the user related comments and diggs between now and the v4 rollout."
You mean to imply that any of the comments posted in the past week are actually worth keeping? They should delete everything from this past week and pretend it never happened.
JackkerSep 1, 2010
"They can't, an old IT guy that used to work for the site said becuase of the nature of the rollout they cannot go back."
This makes me a little worried. Digg is making headlines for the wrong reasons and the axles don't seem to be running out anytime soon.
I only hope it works out in the end (which has to be soon). I must say I enjoyed lurking around as a reader for the past years though.

Diggleback new diggs
wonnk13Aug 31, 2010
ok, this isn't funny anymore. when can i get some real stuff on the front page. withdrawal is too much to handle now. *starting to shake* and reddit still sucks too.
philipz78Aug 31, 2010
These people feel that if it doesn't stop, then the whole thing is pointless. The digg community found a way to get their stuff to the front page. It just has to be through an auto feed, and reddit, diggs spiritual competitor, provides this feed. The new digg algorithm is actually what's bringing it to the front page, and Kevin is probably crying somewhere.

trax852Aug 31, 2010
I noticed philipz78 posted twice, seems to be the norm, I click on a digg and it doesn't take for 3-4 minutes so I click again, I figure philipz78 posted, it wasn't shown felt it didn't work and posted again. Very unresponsive system. Days ago I kept getting forbidden errors, now nothing shows.
As to the original question of another place to visit, while a personal thing; Drudge of http://www.drudgereport.com/ has a dad who has a very interesting web site http://www.refdesk.com/ if you can't find something worth reading... your not trying.
Then there is always www.Slashdot.org the site that started it all.
kopiwriteSep 1, 2010
That's the whole point of digg v4 which is why it's so hysterical that reddit is pwning the front page. Don't you get it? THIS IS HOW DIGG V4 WORKS. Big name publishers have ALL the power of the frontpage and no one can do s**t about it. Just hilarious that Reddit is one of those "big name publishers" and giving the (soon to be defunct) digg community the same content they want. Without the reddit submissions we're stuck with a site that basically acts as a specific RSS reader for Leo, Digg site news, TechCrunch (LOLLLLLLLLLL), and lame as f**k websites like time and all that nonsense no one at digg gives a s**t about.
I'm only sticking around for the next couple days to contribute to the hysteria. I've already deleted digg from my bookmarks and read Reddit more than I used too.
So sad Digg. You REALLY f**ked this one up.
fattycorpuscleAug 31, 2010
Now Digg4 is causing developers to go hungry. Well done.

Kevin the amount of people you have seen registering for accounts since v4 has gone live was probably due to lurkers who are finally making accounts to voice their outrage. This will go down as one of the larger web blunders of 2010.
grafenbergSep 1, 2010
the decade, without a doubt.
fuzi0ndetSep 1, 2010
Maybe he might want to have a look at the giant surge in traffic Reddit is having. I signed up over there and will leave digg for good if s**t doesn't get right quick.
dspiralAug 31, 2010
I for one like the new Digg. I dont have to go to Reddit anymore. the best of both worlds. ;)
rfquinnAug 31, 2010

shadowman99Aug 31, 2010
You would think at the very least they would work on stabilizing the bugs in Digg4. Beyond just the flawed business plan of betraying your users I can't believe this was published late late week and this place is still a bug infested mess. Nothing works! I can click half the links around this site and get two different results from one click to the next. The stupid OX is on my screen so much I fear burn-in. Worst search engine ever! I have yet to be on the new site for more than 5 minutes without a string of failed page/profile loads.
If Kevin thinks this is going to impress sponsors, he's wrong again. Sponsors want reliable results. I wouldn't trust Kevin's tracking. It's probably as buggy as everything else right now.
If four days this place has cashed in all of it's street cred in the geek community. And what do they have to show for it?
A half assed RSS feed.
alexownzyouAug 31, 2010
the only thing i dont like about the new digg is the layout. feels too cluttered. can someone else tell me what everyone else is so pissed about?

alexownzyouSep 3, 2010
