It looks like Facebook Email addresses tie into facebook vanity urls, as suspected.
People will be able to send messages directly using facebook email.
If you have people stuck on email, this might actually be useful to facebook users.
Imagine being able to just tell people that your new address is ___@facebook.com
and that's the end of it.
No hassle in asking people to sign up to Facebook to contact you, though it might get Facebook's name out among older users.
Users could also send photos to people directly.
It would be nice to allow people to share photos in Facebook photo albums by allowing them to be attached from photos you already uploaded.
