When I bricked my first iPhone jailbreaking it I totally should have sued Apple
johnnysoftwareMay 25, 2011
The jailbreaker software distributor and yourself, actually.
mbostonsMay 25, 2011
Zing? I think you missed the joke.
casper_mottozoaMay 24, 2011
Do you actually know who makes all the money in these "class-action" lawsuits? The class-action lawyers. They get the corporations to settle for, say, $40 million. And what do the consumers usually get? Maybe a $5 coupon, and only if they "opt in", and then only if they redeem it. Who gets the bulk of the settlement? The suing lawyers. They'd make at least half, if not more, of that "$40 million settlement." That's why you see so many class action lawsuits. It's a cottage industry. Class action suits usually pay-out in the $10s of millions, and some are $100 million settlements. The class usually gets a small portion for unwittingly helping these scumbags keep YOUR money.
phriend2spinMay 25, 2011
Actually most of them are thrown out before any settlement is made.
themantogotoMay 25, 2011
The only one I remember making it through is I got $20 for the first gen Ipod nano because of how horribly easy it scratched.
newbill123May 25, 2011
This sort of illustrates how litigious America has become.
The Apple /// was a $4,000+ defective product that just plain didn't work. It was recalled numerous times (but you had to haul your Apple back to the dealer) before it was discontinued with only an expensive "downgrade" path back to the Apple 2 line. No lawsuit though.
A lawsuit today over an iPad that's physically warmer than a book. Ummm. okay. But there wasn't a lawsuit over the 1980's Apple product line that would reportedly overheat enough to physically melt floppy disks and unseat chips from the motherboard. That's insane.
Now there are Apple lawsuits anytime a law firm smells a gravy train. Scratches? Unchangeable battery? Questionable reception issues? Get a lot of publicity. Call it [Noun]gate. And file a class action lawsuit.
(On the other hand, I do think the Supreme Court went too far with it's recent ruling that basically guts class action lawsuits.)
darkmatter911May 24, 2011
Where is the article about the 10 most frivolous lawsuits thrown by Apple at others?
ljseinfeldMay 25, 2011
There as to be a zillion of them out there. Apple is well known for being litigious in defending it's IP. So what's your point?
piloyingMay 25, 2011
As much as I like Apple and hate stupid lawsuits, I do think its ridiculous for their products to be sealed.
newbill123May 25, 2011
I agree that the battery design decision is frustrating.
But the answer is "don't buy (or return) the product"; not a lawsuit.

They throw around lawsuits as well. What makes them so f**king special? I give that company another 10 years and they'll be where Microsoft is today only still using s**tty software.
sibtigerMay 24, 2011
10 years? 5 max. They're already showing plenty of signs of "turning Microsoft."
Closed AccountMay 24, 2011
Their business practices have always been inferior to Microsoft. They have ALWAYS exploited the knowledge that their fanboys are so blindly loyal.
There is not another company in the world where if you bought something online and it was defective, that they would make you drive to the nearest retail store (which is not like Walmart in every city) to get it replaced or repaired or else pay a fee if you want to ship it to them.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

I agree, they're a sad company when it comes to ethics and the way they treat their users/cult followers. Not to mention booby trapping their hardware if you modify it lol.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
ljseinfeldMay 25, 2011
Umm, yeah, except virtually ANY company that sells something online... very, very, few will offer to pay your return shipping costs. Newegg charges a restocking fee, etc.
If you bought Vista (in any of it's 31 flavors) or any MS Office product since, say 2000, you got screwed by MS's "superior" business practices.
ninhMay 25, 2011
Don't sue, instead don't buy the crap in the first place.
finretardsMay 24, 2011
This article was written by the apple propaganda department.

While the lawsuit is sily, I love how the response is that hte battery holds 80% of its charge after 400 cycles.
Considering a smart phone is generally going to be charged every day, I guess Apple is saying that you are not buying an iPhone...you are only renting it for 13 months.

many of these are no frivolous at all. A phone that loses reception when held? The iPad overheating so easily ? Not at all frivolous.
mbostonsMay 25, 2011
1) All phones with internal antennas have the possibility of losing reception under different points of contact with your skin. Because hey, we're conductive.
2) It's a 9.5" x 7.5" x 0.5" fully enclosed brick of metal and plastic. It doesn't take a particle physicist to figure out it's probably going to overheat "easily" in comparison to the norm.
Solution:
Do your research about the product you're buying and maybe think a little bit instead of being a possible brainless apple fanboy who snaps up everything they push out every 5-6 months.
Closed AccountMay 27, 2011
An d yet...go figure....the competiton doesn't overheat NEARLY as much as the iPad. Nor do other phones lose signal like the death grip iPhones did.
Sorry, but in your quest to get Steve Jobs to unzip his fly for you, all you succeeded at was losing youre credibility defending a company that would not care if you died tomorrow. (Just like the rest of hte world.)Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
mbostonsMay 27, 2011
I love how you commented on one of my other posts and immediately had to follow me here to comment on this without actually reading anything about what I was saying.
#1) I'm telling the truth.
#2) I'm telling you their POS iPad is poorly designed in comparison to other tablets.
and the funniest part about your response is obviously your complete disregard for what I said in my "solution"
"Do your research about the product you're buying and maybe think a little bit instead of being a possible brainless apple fanboy who snaps up everything they push out every 5-6 months."
Wow I'm totally ALL about Apple! Learn to read you brainless moron.
mbostonsMay 25, 2011
I want a counter article where the 1st example is how Apple got locked in a Trademark battle for the term "App Store" and without actually winning that battle decided they should go ahead and start suing people for use of the term.
Closed AccountMay 24, 2011
But wouldn't it be easier to just throw an apple?
themantogotoMay 25, 2011
Not to mention thier lawsuits against people who are with them more or less. There was a guy I knew who at one point ran a rather prevalent blog on up and coming apple products and he got a letter from them one day opening it hoping, of course, Steve Jobs would magically pop out and give him a handshake but no it was a cease and desist order for publicizing and raving over their own products.
theanimal123May 25, 2011
the battery design is f**king stupid. use screws on the back to hold it together. i replaced my battery but it's a ridiculous process for everyone to have to learn how to open those things...
QuatroCrazyMay 25, 2011
Welcome to sue happy America.
