I hit the button on top of the digg homepage a couple weeks ago to be invited to the beta, then all of a sudden I woke up to the new version yesterday.
The new Digg button is infuriating when using my Android. You see, I have this digg addiction and even use Digg on the go. This button is putting me in withdrawal. While I can read the story, I can not digg it and..I. must. Digg.
switch to Desktop View and/or try tapping the digg button 7 times in a row :-) Not an exact science however, works for me 95% of the time.
"...How did you figure that out?..." -- janinco
by tapping the digg button 7 times LOL :-)
being serious now, I noticed that the button control was fading in/out when pressed though reset soon after...started tinkering thus " 7 ". Sometimes it'll accept after 6 BUT no less for some odd reason. So what works for me, either it accepts the first time or tap 7(ish). Also tapping the lower left edge of the button control tends to work on my BB ( without needing to tap 7 ).
Devices: Xoom 10.1, Galaxy 10.1, few off brand/mixed tablets and several Android mobile devices + two BB's.
"...The digg button is indeed screwed up on the ipad..." -- lethain
Similar issue on my Xoom and Galaxy both 10.1 tablets, current OS builds. Found viewing digg in full site/desktop view and pressing the lower edge of the digg/bury control works 95% of the time. Pressing the control elsewhere [ middle or top ] digg box blinks and resets to DIGG. There's also an annoyance burp when pressing the digg control...it sends me to the sub without digging the sub, pressing digg again repeats, after a few tries it'll digg the sub properly ( happens a few times a day ).
On the new digg buttons there is an up and down vote function, instead of just the thumbs up, with the bury beneath it. That's what I'm referring to and my gigantic four foot wide stubby fingers just can't deal with it. The screenshot in the article above ^ shows what I'm referring to. Can. not. digg. It's not implemented on all of the stories, just a select few.
oic....a trick for us mobile/tablet digg users with monster hands: pinch/tap zoom in on the digg / control buttons, Digg/Bury, then zoom out, if your device doesn't do this automatically. Temp solution :-)
Monster hands R Us. I've done that but it's too difficult to make it.....DIGG! It's driving me bonkers. I shall get another hobby called, Reddit. (I joke)
My pinky is huge. Remember, monster hands? But, the way around it, works for me if I go to the submitter's page and digg from there. It has the regular crappy button:-P
I already given up on digg on a smart phone. I will use my ipad with safari or desktop/laptop. Oh how I wish there was a dedicate iphone/android app like reddit's blue alien.
I have an Android. If you get to the regular digg pages, not the Newsroom, then click the digg button about 5 times in a row, then it works (Unless it's a Republican story, then just pass it by <I joke>). With the Newsroom stories, it's harder to digg them.
Is custom rooms (topics) for the newsrooms feature coming? I see that you talk about being as broad as "technology" or as specific as "Lady Gaga". Coming to specific topics, the interests could vary vastly and thus a need for custom newrooms.
I have a feeling with this new algorithm they can also see just overall traffic for a certain keyword on site like FB, Twitter, etc. If an event like hurricane Katrina occurred again (knock on wood) and it becomes a popular keyword I don't see why digg wouldnt be able to see this and create a temporary newsroom for it.
user created rooms would be awesome. i'd love to have an xbox360 channel (as opposed to "gaming" and "microsoft", which are not the same thing) and an anime channel as well.
Just think of the expandability of this newsroom idea. As a college student at UW and a Seattle-ite I have to check multiple websites to see what is going on at my school and city. If I had a "UW Husky" newsroom or a "Seattle" newsroom that their newswire algorithm could track I could go to one page for any news and events related to where I live and go to school. Also from a business perspective this will be epic for their proprietary sponsored articles. These newsrooms make target marketing for any size of business very attractive.
This is awesome, I wish there would be a way to look at all the news rooms I'm following ie: above All News Rooms button, there should be your news room button. That would be super wonderful as I wouldn't have to click through the different news rooms to get content.
The ability to follow newsroom topic is great. It reminds me of following subreddits. In addition, the badge system is a great system which will increase user interaction.
Ya, it's really pretty awesome. Gone are the days when Reddit gets news first, thanks to each newsroom having a newswire. I discovered an awesome story in the science newsroom the other day a full 5 hours before it was picked up on reddit.
I have not been to DIGG is over a year, but you have my interest.. but I would like to ask: Is it possible to "edit" for small typo errors etc when submitting a link?

smurfzSep 20, 2011
That was really quick. Thanks team! =D

Unfortunately, I don't have one either :( (Well, now you do :P)
I'm being teased by access to the new design on this post, but not the newsroom itself!
