I think their are two problems.
1) iPhone doesn't not allow tethering
2) The carriers don't want you to tether.
Personally you would think people would pay for devices and services that allow this rather than work around the system.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Nope. It's the carriers. I've been using tethering in Switzerland on my iPhones for quite a while. Apple's supported it in iOS since version 3 or 4, it's only some US carriers (and maybe others) that don't allow it.

iPhone does allow tethering, in the UK it is built-in functionality if you are on certain networks.

I think you should tell all those iPhone users(and geek.com) in the US they should move to UK and Switzerland and buy the iPhone again just so they can tether.
