A million dollars for a company that's worth over a 150 billion. I'm sure they're ecstatic.
southsideirishMar 20, 2011
Hah? They are getting 1 mil for the name and keeping the company.

I think someone needs to look up what 'tidy profit' means for a hundred billion dollar company who paid 7.4 billion to acquire the asset it's selling.

Yeah, Sun is just a name Oracle doesn't need. The real profit is in the IP, especially the patents.

Who is seriously gonna pay that...

Spam site.
Twitter follower site, (Follow the bogus money promise).
Sex dot com sure made a tidy sum, but also showed how easy it
was to steal a name at the time.

I seriously doubt Oracle would do it, mostly for technical and marketing reasons. There is an enormous body of electronic and printed information that points to sun.com. I am sure Oracle would want it to continue to redirect to www.oracle.com instead of giving their customers 404 or 'email not found'.

By the way, here is something to support what I am saying: http://blogs.sun.com/OTNGarage/entry/sun_com_will_disappear_after

Nowhere in the article does it say that the domain will expire. If so, just about anyone could make that profit on a $7 investment.

Oracle can make much more money than $1 million by using this domain name intelligently. I don't think so this is cool strategy.
