As long as the states are allowed to mane STRONGER privacy laws, I don't see the problem.
However, I imagine it's really lobbyists calling for weaker laws, so frack them!

It is. The states' action thus far has been to put regulations on business, forcing them to "implement and maintain reasonable security procedures and practices appropriate to the nature of the information, to protect the personal information from unauthorized access, destruction, use, modification, or disclosure."
Sounds good, until you realize that those regulations have no teeth, no penalties or fines incurred for not following them.
TL;DR the short version is the states want to let businesses do whatever they wish with your data and never ever hold them responsible for their actions in any way.

The States' Attorneys General are correct indeed. The constitution does not provide for the Federal Government to infringe on the rights of the States to legislate privacy. It's alarming to see that no one commenting knows the law of our country. The type of centralization advocated parallels the Hitler regime, et al. If you feel disenfranchised by your state's lackluster enforcement of privacy, there most likely will be even greater disregard for your privacy at a federal level, unless you are some corporate or lobbyist oligopoly with lots of money.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
