If you guys launch the android app, you'll definitely see more visitors...and we definitely need a newsroom dedicated to Android.
hackiewackieNov 15, 2011
I believe you guys but our main concern is, a "good" story doesn't top 400 to 500 Diggs on a normal day (While in V3 - it used to go up in 4 figures easily) - Maybe the users are there but they aren't engaging. Have to do something about that.
spazattack5000Nov 15, 2011
I also remember having triple digit diggs on some of my comments on the previous version (keep in mind that I had 450 diggs on one of the stupidest comments ever). Now I'm lucky to reach double digits. Maybe I'm just not witty anymore.
doodlemasterNov 16, 2011
I had a 1050+ comment once on a really stupid comment, I mist those it was fun to see that people actually read stuff.
capyodaNov 16, 2011
digg might be scaling the votes ala reddit too..
or maybe the users really arent there

FTA - "* Digg Newsrooms have been in beta for a month and we are seeing great response - In particular page views per visit are up 3x versus classic Digg."
Before the Newsrooms become final, you should reweight the badge scoring system a bit to give more weight to reads, and less weight to submissions. It seems a bit odd to see someone with 100 subs and no other activity ahead of someone who has been reading, digging, commenting, and replying.

Loving the news rooms. It'd be great if users could make additional news rooms. Is something like this coming down the line?
bcarl314Nov 16, 2011
And?
Every time I walk into a Ford dealer, they tell me how popular their cars and trucks are. This model has x sales / year, this other model has y, and is the best selling. And every time I shut them up by asking "I'm not interested in popular, I'm interested in quality". You see, "popular" things are typically s**t. Focus on quality.
aetherboyNov 16, 2011
A million times this.
In all the attempts made to refine the site, the overall quality of front page posts has continued to decline. If its not crappy link bait videos, its SEO infographic spam. Reddit is getting another user.
ourscompanyNov 16, 2011
I agree with you. Quality and new features amendment as per the time is very crucial. Like Google, they know what is the future business model etc and as per that the strategically implement those. All the best Digg.
effathaeuNov 16, 2011
Maybe it's good idea to allow users create their own newsrooms. You can separate them between two categories: official and unofficial. I hope You will at least think about this :)
gamingforeverNov 15, 2011
I been following alexa for the stats... Their charts show it just keeps going down ranking.... I'm hoping to see them ranks go high up...

O.K., I agree with you guys. But I wanna ask a simple question to you - Where is the "Digg Effect" that used to crash our servers within minutes of getting popped?
micahcNov 16, 2011
Advertise, advertise, advertise! Get Digg's name out there. No one is talking about it anymore as if Digg is yesterday's news. Make a solid Android app, be active on Google+ (I know the Reddit founder is), and get geeks talking about Digg again. Draw the users back and instill a renewed sense of community and discussion here. That is what's lacking.
furmommy1Nov 16, 2011
so there is an app out there for digg??
micahcNov 17, 2011
There was two years ago. Then they broke it, took it off the Android market, and never replaced it. Still waiting.
gameondiggerNov 16, 2011
I think digg really needs to learn a bit from reddit.com specially the way they control spam comments. I have been using reddit for sometime now and there is not a single spam comment across, even in sub reddits.
I think the best way for digg to move forward is to let more stories pop. The front page is insanely static at times.
gameondiggerNov 16, 2011
Also, there should be an option to edit the title while submitting from the newswire section within a newsroom!
scotch55Nov 16, 2011
Why don't you guys change the cookie length to be longer? I visit this site at least 10 times a day, but refuse to look up my user/pass, be redirected, and then try and find the freakin story again, just to Digg an article, or make a comment.
anomaly100Nov 16, 2011
Keep it up. I have faith in Digg. I'd have even more if you responded to feedback <cough> from the 'contact us' section.

Looking at the analytic chart, traffic does seem consistent between May and October. However that one chart does not draw the complete picture. The bounce rates, time spent on site, page views & other metrics that explain the overall user journey and interactivity on the site should build a picture we all know to be true, activity on the site has dropped significantly compared to V3.
The community as lost its soul. It doesn't matter how many visits the site is getting if the activity level, comments + diggs are so low. Digg had something good, like an old mansion that only needed a lick of paint and the odd touches to maintain its opulence but what we had was everything ripped down to the ground and rebuilt.
The pace at which you reacted to user demands was very slow to begin with & seemed to have only picked up after Matt stepped in the game. The most active users, yes the 1% that actually dedicated a lot of their time curating content were banished and replaced with large publishers. There are still a lot of issues that need to be addressed to get Digg back on track. It seems as though the team is unwilling to take a step back & look at the old Digg to figure out why it worked, what features small but essential it had that this shiny version doesn't. Maybe you should consult with your active users more, the fact that staff who have been members since 2006 still do not get why users are abandoning the site or activity is tanking speaks for itself.
