We won't have too much longer to verify whether or not the reports are correct.

Office? for Mac? that's sounds a bit odd. What about open office?
maatttmannSep 10, 2010
agreed. wonder if it's true?
martalliSep 10, 2010
Maybe MS will try to be competitive with openoffice and make MS Office free

Why people buy Office over and over is beyond me. Open Office does most of what Office and it's free.
Another benefit is that it's pretty much the same app on Windows, Mac and Linux, so if your like me, you can switch from one platform to another effortlessly.

Microsoft has offered Office to Mac since 1989 :P

And what of connectivity to Exchange?
If I'm going to pay for it, I'd much rather have the 'real' client...
absolutelytrueSep 10, 2010
I have Office for Mac, probably don't need an upgrade though.
badqatSep 10, 2010
Actually, you do. They dispense with the POS that is Entourage and actually have Outlook for the Mac finally.
martalliSep 10, 2010
Actually, the only reason you have to is because they drop support for their old proprietary filetypes and create new proprietary filetypes your old office cant read or create.
neozeedSep 10, 2010
Outlook is back!? (I recall it being available ages ago on the Mac.....) Well damn, that's worth the price to me, I freaking hate entourage and it's weird configuration....
But I can bet you need exchange 2010 ... I guess I'll have to push the company to upgrade from exchange 2003.
martalliSep 10, 2010
I'm glad I already have open office for my mac. No need for MS Office.

Now all we need is IE on the Mac and I can stop using a Windows VM. I know, I know, IE SUCKS.. But unfortunately there are certain sites that I have to use that require IE and there's no way around it other than maybe running IE6 in Wine Bottler, which is not desirable.
