exploit67Nov 28, 2010
Too bad that such a wonderful tracker pretty much ruined their life.
Closed AccountNov 28, 2010
No it didn't. Their immaturity did. They could have fought the good fight without resorting to extremely juvenile name calling and stupid ass letters in an effort to make some virgins on Digg think they were so cool. But they chose the latter option and in doing so, painted a huge target on themselves. They were not the biggest tracker. But it was their attitudes that made the powers that be set an example with them.
Without the immaturity, the worst case scenario would have been having the site taken down and they go away with whatever money they made up to that point.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

I waiting for pirate copy of the Pirate Bay
Closed AccountNov 28, 2010
Even though that sucks, Pirate Bay will not suffer and will not go offline. It is just a giant legal circle jerk to allow the idiots behind Big Music to feel better about their failed business model.
I am going to go to TPB right now and download something just out of spite.
f**k the RIAA/MPAA/Whoever thinks that we should all be forced to buy overpriced media
Closed AccountNov 28, 2010
If you think the pirate bay will remain immune for much longer, you're living in a delusional fantasy.
remember when there were 'warez' sites? remember when napster came out? or how about more recently, mininova taking down every single 'illegal' torrent. just recently, a search engine for torrent sites had its domain name seized and shut down, without warning. there's probably at least a dozen very popular filesharing sites that have been shut down over the years.
they don't even need to shut these sites down, all they need to do is block traffic from reaching it, which can be done in multiple ways and affect entire countries. shutting down these sites is as easy as flipping a switch once they get pass all of the legal mumbo jumbo.
there will always be piracy in some form, but it's going to only get harder to get, and riskier to download. these torrent sites only exist because of the sovereignty and laws of the country they operate from. but laws change.
toryssNov 28, 2010
As someone who could be directly affected by pirating (I make video games) I would like to see these sites shut down. I'm not innocent, but I can wait for DVD releases for TV shows that I can't currently get in Canada.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Get a real job, hippie!!!

The more you learn about file sharing, the more you realize how essential it is to your business.
If I couldn't download your game, I wouldn't fork out even $20 for it. But I can download it. And then tell all my friends how good it is, so they buy it.
Same goes for music, and it is why artists and whole record labels exist with the model of completely free release. And the artists make a lot of money, somehow.
People are actually nice, and the less you let them do the less nice they become.
kiesow567Nov 28, 2010
While I understand and empathize with your point of view, I also have to point out that several musical artists, game developers, etc. are embracing file sharing and finding a way to make it work for them. File sharing is not something new . . . it is the future of the way we get entertainment.
Companies that are unable (or refuse to) change their tactics and find a way to work WITH file sharing (instead of against it) will fall. That's just the way it is. You can't fight the future. Adapt or become extinct.
theiinliveNov 28, 2010
just become a member of a private tracker. Less likely to be grabbed, less likely to bbe shut down.
WreckedEmNov 28, 2010
Got an invite for me?
Closed AccountNov 28, 2010
if I could become a member of a private tracker, or you, then anyone can. including those that want to gather enough information to shut it down or harass its users with lawsuits.
m00c0wNov 28, 2010
But they don't go for smaller ones, because there is more money to be made off of the bigger ones.
This isn't about getting file sharing off of the internet, that will never happen as stated by all officials and experts involved. It's purely money and power.
xeemoNov 29, 2010
They've been saying the Pirate Bay is getting shut down for years now. It never does. Perhaps one day it'll sink, but for now I see no sign of it.

"fraud the world for billions of dollars....steal peoples retirement funds,..every sent they have...destroy countless lifes...get a bonus!!!"
Like the Pirate Bay guys did? Oh I forgot, you people don't think programmers and artists are people who need to retire.
m00c0wNov 28, 2010
You don't realize something about file sharing. The people who download stuff, CAN'T AFFORD IT IN THE FIRST PLACE.
I have 2k albums. I don't and never have had 20k dollars for all of them. They would have never been bought in the first place. But now that I have gotten them and listened, with no negative impact to the artist (don't even start arguing that) I can advertise how good the actually good music is to everyone, and know which concerts to go to (Which actually support the artists decently versus 50 cents from an album sale.) Plus, the enjoyment and inspiration I've gotten from having a copy of this content encourages me to work my every day job, creatively, proactively. In this way, from nothing (having a copy of content that I wouldn't have access to anyway) comes something.
Limiting file sharing is limiting so many things unrelated to it. People deep down know this logical fact, but society allows one to legitly get many dollars from someone else for advancing themselves and others.
AMurfNov 28, 2010
I don't agree with the jail time, but this lose of appeal is a great victory for the music Industry.

When is the world gonna learn the war on piracy is just like the war on drugs. Nobody is going to stop it from happening!
