Solid state is the only way to go. Lasts longer, less noise, and offers an excellent opportunity to brag about it to your friends (with the less technical ones asking what it means and you getting to say, "Well, solid state is...")

I love how you stopped the explanation before you actually had to explain it yourself....

It's one seriously fast drive and though it's expensive, it boots Windows 7 is about 15 seconds. :)

I don't know how fast that is since I don't run Windows but my Thinkpad dual core laptop boots my Ubuntu in not much more if that much.
Had you said 1-2 seconds, I would have been impressed - 15... not so much.

For Windows 7 and Mac OS, it's rather quick I assure you. ;)

Boy - I'm f**king old!

Amazing how SSDs continue to get faster and cheaper. Some day in the not so distant future, the old spinning hard drive will be non-exsistent in the desktop and laptop.

i just want a 16 TB drive with the same form factor and connection locations as today's SATAdrives... pump a couple of those into my Drobo and i'll be laughing.
