12" screen and 2 usb ports and 1 sd card slot, meh no thanks. I'm sure it will look cool.

That will be enough for most people, sadly.

which begs the question why would one spend 1250(1000-1500) on a netbook?

"why would one spend 1250(1000-1500) on a netbook?"
I have a 13" MacBook Pro. I had a 17", but I found myself unable to carry all of my equipment in my back pack all day (hard drives, batteries, cameras, etc...). I had a 1 month trip where I was walking/hiking an average of 20 miles a day. With that in mind, every bit of weight counted.
So, I considered a netbook, but I needed the power of at least a Core 2 Duo with 4GB of RAM. I also wanted to use OS X, and wanted all of my OS X applications and compatibility with my desktops.
So...at the time the 13" MacBook Pro made sense.
If the MacBook Air had a single FireWire port, I would buy it in a heartbeat, almost regardless of price. Without FireWire, there's one specific use case that it won't work with (live up-streaming of video from an external camera source).
But I could see a lot of people who need ultraportability and OS X wanting a MacBook Air who don't need anything else (like FireWire, larger capacity drive, etc...).

I see Apple finally entered the netbook market.

Why did Apple ditch iWeb on this release of iLife?
wilhoitmOct 21, 2010
If you look at the fine print, "iLife ’11 also includes iWeb and iDVD for creating instant websites or your own straight-to-DVD classic." Not sure they get any new features though?

It has a core 2 duo, geforce 320m and cost 1k. How is this a netbook. Just call it an ultra portable.

They shouldn't have used the same name. MacBook Air was a failed elitist product. Much like the iPod Hi-Fi. Just hearing MacBook Air simply makes me think of bad things... Does that make me an elitist?Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
