I think it is intended for technical/professional vocabulary and for proper nouns. The authors of the article really showed a creative streak in pegging it as useful for something else.
If it feels like it. Forever there was no way to actually say "I use this word a lot so keep it in your memory." There is a reason you have to keep reteaching it words. I use an iOS device, you can't tell me it actually learns all the new words you put in on the the fly and actually remembers them.

Yeah, why would you change the longer phrase, "on my way" to a shorter, "omw"? I'd go the opposite way.

I have often typed the word 'things' onto my iPhone 4 to then often have the typo come out as 'thongs'! :s

iPhone..worst phone ever if you use it as a phone. Takes them years to get simple cell phone features apparently
stealthspcJun 12, 2011
I've only had 2 dropped calls in the 3 years I've had one (iPhone 3G + iPhone 4). It's greatly exaggerated.
speedyinkJun 12, 2011
That's not what I'm talking about. You shouldn't have to wait for basic cell phone features like mms, or a custom dictionary

I never use MMS so I don't care that it took so long. The iPhone learns words automatically. Having to manually add words would be really annoying.

If you hit the "x" on the word when it tries to change it. Doing it three times adds it to the custom dictionary I believe.

The theory anyway, How often does this actually work for you?
oeyvindJun 11, 2011
THIS IS WRONG... that's shortcut is for CJK input. It's been there since iOS 4.
surbuttJun 13, 2011
i think thats fine... it will give the ease to write some typical words...
