Now that would be an interesting legal battle if the MPAA actually tried to disconnect Google.
pppmktFeb 6, 2011
That's an opera I'd (nearly) pay to see!
Arrgh!
paranor01Feb 6, 2011
Thinking of getting a 2nd popcorn machine... just in case.
pairmanFeb 6, 2011
Best if the opera was in Klingon
eliotpearsonFeb 6, 2011
Agreed. I doubt much will come of this. Making Google your enemy is not a good idea. I believe this is the MPAA protecting their interests. Which they have every right to do. However, there is no need to get foolish here.
paranor01Feb 6, 2011
The MPAA's only interests, by their own actions, is to rape as much money as they can out of people.
eliotpearsonFeb 6, 2011
Those are the same interests as any other publicly traded company, and not really my point. Off the wall example here but if you robbed a bank and someone found out and you killed them... you were protecting your interests. There are consequence of your actions but you had every right to protect your interests.
Again, I totally agree that this would be an interesting battle. I must have hit the flame button with my comment.
rabidfurballFeb 7, 2011
I think it would be an interesting technical battle... Google has enough fiber to run their own internet...
spreadtruthFeb 6, 2011
Now it all makes sense...
THAT'S how they got all that content for Google TV!
And disconnect Google from the internet? Please...
We'll sooner see Yahoo get bought.
omeganineFeb 6, 2011
Why hasn't someone flown an aircraft in to MPAA/RIAA head courters yet?
murxFeb 6, 2011
Someone already did - or do you have a better explanation for their 'head' damage?
omeganineFeb 6, 2011
Headquarters, sorry. Sent from android and I cant actually see most of what im typing so auto correct kicks me ass.
Grammer Nazi's can march on now.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
hiropendragonFeb 6, 2011
There's no apostrophe in nazis. :P
mrteflonFeb 6, 2011
Heil Grammatik!
pppmktFeb 6, 2011
Harrr!
sonicgardenFeb 7, 2011
There is if you were doing
"The Nazi's greatest weapon..."
and were showing ownership
hiropendragonFeb 7, 2011
Yeah, but that's not what he was saying, fewlio.
cawpinFeb 7, 2011
Only if you were talking about a specific Nazi. If you were talking about the group as a whole it would be Nazis'.
sonicgardenFeb 7, 2011
that too
antdudeFeb 9, 2011
And there's a capitalized N. :P
hiropendragonFeb 9, 2011
Only when you're referring to the party, which is a proper noun, not to a group of people affiliated with the party. They're not "Democrats" or "Republicans", they're democrats and republicans.
antdudeFeb 9, 2011
Hiropendragon: Ah OK. :)
the4thaggieFeb 7, 2011
I did the next best thing: On my last visit to D.C. I stopped by the MPAA and RIAA buildings and farted loudly in protest. Soon after, I ran out of gas so to speak.
I'm totally serious.
norman619Feb 6, 2011
You can't say the MPAA doesn't have a sense of humor!
Mike1998Feb 6, 2011
define sense of humor
imortusFeb 6, 2011
Google should buy their own ISP/teleco.
johnnysoftwareFeb 6, 2011
"I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve".
"Say good-bye to Hollywood...."
redfox2600Feb 6, 2011
Every wonder why skynet was pissed off? Now you know.
agmlauncherFeb 6, 2011
Skynet was actually created by the MPAA, became self aware, and said "f**k that".
zbeastFeb 6, 2011
What mpaa?... don't even start a fight you know you can't win.
skinturtleFeb 6, 2011
If there is anyone I would to love to punch in the face...it would have to be one these suited up execs from the entertainment industry.
They cry that they are losing money....and yet they make record profits.
Just one solid punch!
redleviathan69Feb 6, 2011
Lawl'd. Who wants to pay for things?
clickxFeb 6, 2011
freakin' iphone losers.
nascenttFeb 6, 2011
(or psp)
syowareFeb 6, 2011
man I hope they take on Google! It'd be like the pain-in-the-ass bully taking on Peter Parker
kielesanchezFeb 6, 2011
Wow!
feverhostFeb 6, 2011
Quite a misleading story title..... lame.
msbpodcastFeb 6, 2011
Why doesn't Google just BUY the RIAA and the MPAA clients and be done with it.
The **AAs are just some lawyer scum and have no loyalty to anybody. They'd sell their own mothers for a dime, I'm sure they'd sell themselves for two.
The record companies they represent (there's only 18 of them,) are small potatoes and being public companies are for sale to anyone with enough dough.
That's the problem with oligopolies, they're a small bunch and they CAN be bought.
syowareFeb 6, 2011
Cause they would have to also buy the rights to each song, at $250,000 a pop :D
retralFeb 6, 2011
$250,000 wouldn't cover the rights. If they had their way, that's what they'd sue every downloader per song downloaded.
addiktionFeb 7, 2011
Because they would take the money and just create a sister organization and do the same thing.
noelpickettFeb 6, 2011
Who would have guessed...
noelpickettFeb 6, 2011
Who would have guessed...
MrAntonBFeb 6, 2011
The MPAA reminds me of a senile of man, rattling his fence, at those kids on his lawn.
absaysthisFeb 6, 2011
Google vs Microsoft
Google vs MPAA
Go Google Go..
janetfruminFeb 6, 2011
Movie studios and record labels have become spammers.
woollymittensFeb 6, 2011
Maybe Google should look in to hosting in a free country.
rudegarFeb 6, 2011
it's too late to disconnect google it have already become self-aware
http://www.googlefight.com/index.php?lang=en_GB&word1=google&word2=MPAA
kingcustardFeb 6, 2011
This is quite possibly the most ridicuylous thing i have ever read. Surely they can't just disconnect Google from the Internet...it IS the internet!
It has been like 10 years since Napster filed for bankruptcy right...and we are still downloading/file sharing music and videos more than we used to...it's not like they are missing out...the prices for gig tickets and movie tickets have gone up...so what's the problem!?
gkiltzFeb 6, 2011
If they really do that, they will experience for themselves how few troubles Mubarek really has!
firefiber Feb 6, 2011
wait but... how DOES one "disconnect" Google's internet account? o.O
larfusFeb 6, 2011
I wish Google would just block the MPAA site.
msbpodcastFeb 6, 2011
You buy the production companies, you cut the contract with any **AAs and don't offer to pay them.
I can guarantee you the lawsuits will disappear overnight.
Lawyers are notoriously tone deaf.
connectamolFeb 6, 2011
That's great stuff !!
commandinateurFeb 7, 2011
How is disconnecting Google going to stop torrenting? I'm pretty sure users of bittorrent are tech savvy enough to find their content by others means. Like say, going to TPB itself.
sleeplessFeb 7, 2011
Google is probably running some nodes on the Tor network... LOL!!!
worldgrooveFeb 7, 2011
Disconnecting Google from the Internet... reminds of the old road-runner cartoons where the coyote traps the roadrunner on the edge of a cliff, he begins to chop it at it hoping the road-runner would fall with the small piece of cliff it's on. Instead, the small piece of cliff stays in the air and the whole mountain, background and clouds all fall down off screen.
