After Windows 7, expectations are high from Microsoft. Please don't make it a Vista-like disaster
mrteflonMay 28, 2011
It usually is every other one.. We had 98 and then Millennium then 2k/XP then Vista..
Instead of focusing on their 7 Series they are in a huge rush to feed their cash cow.
FlorianZehrmannMay 29, 2011
Probably they try to make Windows 8 more proffesional. Windows 7 was something new, with touch screen and quite good but know they want to bring a grown-up programme... and in case of Microsoft this means many system crashes. I hope it will run fine on the basic computers.

Set aside the obvious fails, Microsoft has had some wins... Windows 7, XBox Live, Kinect, Windows Phone 7 (stop rolling your eyes). Remember when Intel felt the threat from AMD? Not saying Intel would have failed but it did put enough fire under them to re-invigorate their creative juices.
With threats from Google and Apple on multiple fronts (desktop, mobile, tablet, OS, cloud), IMHO I think Microsoft has realized the need to re-focus those creative juices.

Already Window 8 man just starting liking Window 7.

I jumped from XP to 7 after a long long time.... I think I will stick with 7 for a while.

I think its dumb of Microsoft to do this on the week of WWDC. Its like trying to snatch the audience from Apple but only to embarrass themselves if everyone is giving them deaf ear.

I would move to linux(opensuse or ubuntu) permanently if they had professional; software programming languages(visual studio, rad studio), drawing and image tools(coreldraw, adobe photoshop), games(directx 9 to 11 quality).
I would also like a windows 7 gui for linux instead of the bloated kde and ugly gnome. I have ubuntu 10.04 on my second partition which i haven't used for 10 month's. Windows has the best professional software application and games.
windows 7 is still freaking expensive, $270 for one license.
psypher1May 29, 2011
Well there is a reason why those Linux OS's aren't where some would like it to be
dan14memMay 29, 2011
i love the idea of linux, but its not what it could be. i wish software developers made decent games for it, cuz then i would be set. until then windows FTW

Gnome runs graphics incredibly quickly compared to Windows. The first time I installed Linux and ran it, I was shocked to find out how fast my video hardware was. I thought Windows was operating the graphics at full speed. Turns out it wasn't - not even close.
pyronaviMay 29, 2011
Funny thing about Linux, you can make it look however you want. Also, you could probably run all of those applications in WINE with little to no effort.

I thought Microsoft said half a year ago that they were going to break their tradition of prematurely announcing products a year or three before it ships, and instead introduce it when it was about ready to go.
This is showing about as much promise as Bill Gates announcement in 2001 that [computer] Security is Job #1 at Microsoft. Months later Code Red and then a litany of other global worms, viruses, and trojans invested the platform as if someone had thrown open wide the gates of cyberhell and the denizens from within had a taste for only one thing. They did. Data on his customer's computers.
I hope we are not back on this hype, oversell, under-deliver cycle again. General purpose computers are dying and people are frankly sidling away from that OS.
Oh, and by the way, are they going to get Job #1 done before starting #8?
FlorianZehrmannMay 29, 2011
Uhm hopefully it os more stabel then the IE9. But anyway Windows 7 was good. I reckon Windows 8 is going to me more proffessional. Hopefully the can do it without many system crashes or programme crashes...

Brilliant

We already know what Windows 8 will look like thanks to their leaked meeting documents a few months ago that said they want to make it "more Apple like and user friendly". So expect a cheap rip off of Mac OSX that isn't as user friendly.
Pickle430May 28, 2011
I believe that Windows 7 should of been Vista
ramu2007May 29, 2011
cool.. :)
