electronista.com — More discoveries in the Lion developer preview have implied that Apple's MobileMe revamp may bring new features to the Mac as well. A finding in the code shows references to a "Find My Mac" identifier that would help users track a lost or stolen Mac. The 9to5 tip didn't glean functionality, but it would presumably use Wi-Fi geolocation much as Snow Leopard can already use Wi-Fi positioning to get the local time.

That feature would be great for me. Now if they could only come up with something to find my keys...

Took me like three tries to understand the title. I thought for sure I'd have a winning comment making fun of it... but now... :(

I assume LaLa will come back in some shape or form with Lion.

Will this make dropbox irrelevant?
enantiodromiaFeb 27, 2011
Dropbox will likely remain more 'open' as to what you can store, but if you own Apple devices their version will certainly be 'easier'.
Dropbox is still a good method for sharing files across platforms and will remain so :)

I agree, Dropbox is still a better solution and cross platform. Mobile Me has to substantially improve to justify the fee.

MobileMe is cross-platform. Running a Windows7 box right now with the mobileme control panel, and am looking at my iDisk contents.

DropBox is substantially better to share documents with IMO and I have MobileMe as well. On the other hand I use Google Docs to share podcast notes. Live editing between two different people (or more) for free is a hard price to beat.

Yes, this is a great way to incriminate myself...

Cloud computing has been speculated as arriving in each iteration of OS X since at least Tiger.

Yes, things often follow the arrow of time, from speculation to completion, in a forward motion.
A few billion dollar datacenters and acquisitions later, they may be ready to flip the switch.

I wonder what happens when they run out of big cats? They can still use "Panther", but then they're gonna have to get more obscure. Can't wait for OS X Albino Caracal.
crispymmFeb 27, 2011
10.3 is Panther
travisg100Feb 27, 2011
Well since 10.7 is Lion, they only technically need 2 more big cat names since after that will theoretically be OS 11 in which case they could use a new series of code names.
sirmasterboyFeb 27, 2011
Why is OSX 10.10 off the table? Ubuntu is at version 10.10.
travisg100Feb 27, 2011
because 10.10 is the same number as 10.1 lol
macharborguyMay 27, 2011
version numbers are not necessarily numerical decimal values. they could have 10.10.1 which would come after 10.10, which would come after 10.9.
Look at Google Chrome. It is currently version 11.0.696.71.

I'm looking forward to OS X 10.20 Mr. Snugglywhiskers!

This has got to be one of the most difficult to read headers in all of Digg's history!

I am looking forward to Lion (it also means I have to buy a new Mac - Steve Jobs and his not supporting the first Intel iMac ways!)
macparrotMay 27, 2011
Well, that does kinda suck but on the other hand you've used it since at least 2006 (if you bought it new) so it might be time to get a newer Mac. You don't have to go new as nearly any Mac with a Core2Duo I believe will run Lion.
