Kobo app is my favorite reader app.

Absolutely don't get how these guys can compete when they have no e-ink hardware device.
Why would anyone choose them over Kindle?
I can read Kindle on all of those devices - and I have an actual Kindle which why I got an ereader in the first place - easy to read in bed, easy on the eyes, and I can read it in the sun (and access webmail all around the world for free).
I get none of that with Kobo, and they don't cost any less than KindleComment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Kobo has no e-ink hardware device? Huh?
I have an e-ink Kobo reader device. They've been selling them for over a year. It's a simple device that has one purpose... to read epub formatted ebooks. I like their e-ink hardware device because it's an easy to use single purpose device that does it's job very well.

Then there marketing s even more damning.
I went to their website - entered 'kobo' into search engine - and arrived here.

Nowhere did I see an ereader. I clicked around - I saw the different places I could read the books, but no ereader.
But I looked again after seeing your post and see, buried way on the bottom, a link to 'kobo ereader' and now I see they have one.
And having looked at it's details, the Kindle still looks like a much better device.

At Bestbuy kindle is $139.00, Kobo is $99.00. Both use 6" e-ink screen. Kindle has more built in memory, Kobo can use SD cards. The Website has a link in pink right on the top line. I guess the main attraction would be the price point. Kindle wins on features, but Kobo wouldn't be a bad little reader at the price point.
