Just the kevin rose digg v4 part http://digg.com/news/technology/kevin_rose_on_digg_v4
dirtyfriesAug 30, 2010
Kevin, the entire thing is a mistake. V3 was awesome. You royally f**ked up. Change it back!
jnajeraAug 30, 2010
I do not mind the layout of v4, I miss the algorithms of v3. The beta users were never really able to test the new algorithms of v4. I think the Digg v4 should be implemented in two parts now. v4 layout first with with v3 algorithms, then once v4 layout is stable, slowly start testing new algorithms in. Obviously their are some errors, I mean, why are their so many top news post that link me to reddit? I understand that people are pissed and digging those post but what happened to diversity or direct article link?

R.I.P. Digg
kevroAug 30, 2010
I just want the comments to be easily tracked again. Showing how many Diggs up/down and how many responses at a glace.
cawpinAug 30, 2010
Well, let's see. Yep, IT WORKS EXACTLY THE SAME AS BEFORE.
breadfredAug 31, 2010
No it doesn't. Look at your history.
sirmeakyAug 30, 2010
I know I'm going to get Dugg for saying this but I rather like the new Digg. :)

If you had just changed one word your comment would be there for everyone to see. Isn't that a bitch?

Me too. I don't get why people can't click the "Top News" link on top if they miss the old Digg. But I guess if you move the coffee table 1/4 inch to the right, people will freak out. Forget about a massive change that v4 is.
sexyboboAug 31, 2010
try to see who commented on your comment and get back to me about how much you like it.

no, it sucks!
chriskzooAug 30, 2010
Adam Curry asked Kevin the only good question, i.e. "Twitter ate Digg's lunch." Kevin hems and haws talk about "verticals" (what!?) and never convinced me Adam was wrong. Adam knows the business and he is too gracious to bury Kevin, as he could have.
New Digg makes no sense - it's either an RSS feed of people you want to follow or an RSS feed of the top tech and news sites. That's not what people who liked the old digg want.

I got all the respect in the world for Leo. If I hadn't watched him on ZDTV / TechTV as a teenager and gotten interested in tech, I definitely know I wouldn't have the job I have now. But he kind of let me down about this. He's a hell of a journalist when he wants to be, but he just handled Kevin with kid gloves for this episode.
I love ya Leo, but you gotta grow a pair and ask the tough questions in situations like this.
roundyAug 31, 2010
It probably doesn't help that Leo thinks Digg v4 was his idea. A while back, Leo complained to Kevin that he doesn't use Digg because he wanted a way to just view articles that his friends submitted/dugg. He didn't like the wide open front page where anyone's article could be posted. So Leo really likes the new Digg because it lets him just follow his friends.

What he actually goes on to describe is Tweetmeme. Which is accurate because that's basically what Digg is becoming.
I don't use Tweetmeme because I'm not interested in what's being spammed around Twitter - it's skewed towards users with the most followers (which, in 99% of cases, isn't an indication of 'taste'). And that's what is happening here.
One of the major points that's being overlooked is that, for years, we've heard about active vs passive users. How so many more people view Digg than actually vote on stories or comment. Almost all the rational for the changes is geared towards these passive viewers. Which is the majority. However, they still relying on the minority who vote (filter) the content for the rest hanging around to ensure quality control despite the fact that each individual now votes alongside huge voting blocks that the different publications have.
This could be an epic miscalculation.

Reported.

I don't know. I like being able to pick users that I can 'watch' based on whether or not what they digg is interesting. The problem existing Digg users have with the new v4 is that it decentralizes the experience, emphasizing the individual user's choices about what and who they want to read. This blow up with the Reddit articles only emphasizes how easily gamed the Top News list is.
Besides, anyone arguing that the previous version was better hasn't been reading about how Digg was losing members and traffic over the last year. They had to try something different if they didn't want to end up being another Slashdot.
jadrianAug 31, 2010
Yes digg now has the potential to become so much better, and so much more appealing to a wide range of people.
Instead of just one big culture, you now can have all this small groups of people coming and enjoying their subjects of choice. You and your friends are into programming, or astronomy, or fashion, or cooking? Come, start posting programming articles and discussing them among your friends. No need to reach front page. And of course other people may join in and grow the discussion group.
It is actually genius. The biggest barrier at the moment is actually digg's reputation for what it used to be, that may prevent new users to come and explore its new potential.
Kevin is doing a great job, and I wish him all the best. Good luck!

f**k you Jadrian.

Used to watch TWiT semi-regularly. Downloaded this episode to see Adam since I'm an NA/DSC fan, but Kevin was also enjoyable. I think I'll start trying to watch more often.
xeemoAug 30, 2010
Can't wait for upcoming to come back. Hopefully that will filter out some of the built in content.
dmanmax99Aug 30, 2010
I think part of the problem is that I really dont care who submits a story. I can only name like 2 or 3 submitters off the top of my head, and I only know them because other people point them out. Digg isn't the twitter of news, and nor should it be. The way I see it, it shouldn't matter who submits a story, as long as it's interesting.
gigasoftAug 30, 2010
Things aren't perfect, but I like the vision.
By the way, you can see from a thousand miles that Kevin finally has read "Getting real" (or Rework).
You guys should read it too :)
