torrentfreak.com — The Department of Justice has filed a brief siding with the RIAA in its civil case against the file-sharing student Joel Tenenbaum. The RIAA is protesting a demand from the student's legal team, who want the court to reduce the massive $675,000 fine on due process grounds, to the minimum statutory damages of $750 per song.

yeah like a student can really afford 675k. So you force him to claim bankruptcy and his student loans are gone too. Maybe in the long run you did him a favor.

They are probably claiming the $675k as damages, which survive bankruptcy. The student loans will be the least of his worries.

Mafia style intimidation. Disproportional fines.
Guess most American are disgusted with both the corrupting lobby of MPAA and RIAA and the despicable legal tactics.
How to organize that overwhelming indignation?

f**k those Gov crooks! ... and what about their insider trading which has been going for years???
anomaly100Jan 31, 2012
I'm not sure, but aren't they voting that out now? I sure hope so. I'm sick to death of our politicians making a ton of money on their jobs, while talking about cuts for others. They get paid too much!
/end of rant

That's a smoke screen so that they can continue the corporate bribery that they call 'lobbying'.
bobosmitorJan 31, 2012
Honestly, I do not know how he is going to come up with that kind of money.

The labels and hollywood are due for a rude awakening. When do we start?
LongBFeb 1, 2012
Wouldn't this be a conflict of interest. Having former RIAA lawyers work for the Justice Department is sketchy as hell!

my classmate's step-sister makes $70 an hour on the computer. She has been unemployed for 8 months but last month her check was $8734 just working on the computer for a few hours. Read more on this web site http://ddp.net/dgz

Can you imagine that? $22,500 per song??? For a FRIGGIN SONG! and it's so important a song that the Justcie Department is getting in on it.
Do these goons not have something better to do worry about important issues instead of the wealth of some record company?
I'd love to look at Obama square in the eyes and say, "But man...it's just a record company. Here you are on the verge of starting WW3.and all you are worried about is some record labels profits?"...'How much do they pay you?"
nickymouseFeb 1, 2012
what about rule of law?
skinturtleFeb 1, 2012
What about more important issues...like the corruption on Wall Street...the war about to happen Iran that could lead to WW3....people without homes...the list goes on and on. Where's the rule of law for the rest of us?
I'll tell you where it is....it doesn't exist. The government is only for who has the most coins. As a matter of fact...the government IS comprise of 3 groups...oil companies, big music labels and hollywood. The rest of us are just here put money in the collection plate when it goes around.
The fact is...times are not going to go back the 1980's. If you or the RIAA and MPAA think all of us are just going to settle down....you are sadly mistaken.
