Didn't this happen last summer?
grymusJun 7, 2011
RTFA Much?
fxspec06Jun 7, 2011
I just RTFA a couple times and didn't find any reference of this happening last summer.
Maybe you could answer his question instead of being a dick?
grymusJun 7, 2011
"Maybe you could answer his question instead of being a dick?"
Why the hell should I do someone's work?
Moron.
fxspec06Jun 7, 2011
"Why the hell should I post ignorant comments?"
I can't answer that.
grymusJun 7, 2011
So Trolled you knucklehead.
lol
Maybe you might wish to read my profile ... the part where I say: "I'm a Troll"
fxspec06Jun 7, 2011
@grymus
this is all i have to say: http://tinyurl.com/25g3t8x
fakeironlungJun 7, 2011
@Grymus, It reminds me of the comic where someone knows nothing of what they are talking about, gets called out on it, and then, to try and not look like a complete idiot, they try to claim they are just a troll. The fact is you are a dick, not a troll.
(here's a hint, if you have to tell someone you are a troll, you are not doing it right, and probably are not a troll)
stemfishJun 7, 2011
Yea, I did, and that's why I posted a question as to if this is a loop of the past. Turns out, it is.

What I got out of that question was:
Are they reprinting year old new's.
Sorry.
stemfishJun 7, 2011
No worries, nothing personal I see, and a valid point about reading articles before just commenting.
Thanks for the apology in any case.

Why can't hackers do something more powerful with their skills? Stealing is a waste of their talents. And if they are going to steal, why not do it from some scumbag institution like Goldman Sacks or Bank of America?Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

We still know what apple did last summer?
theaeneidJun 7, 2011
You're asking Apple, a large multi-national electronics company with a billionaire candidate for anger management treatment, to issue any kind of acknowledgement? Really?
myztryJun 7, 2011
Don't give your credit card details to high volume account based device makers. Apple deliberately makes it hard to avoid but even Apple support will give you a "work around" involving first purchasing a free app to initiate creating the AppleID. Any other way and they remove the option for no CC payment method forever on that email address. You then simply redeem a gift card as required.
Microsoft in much worse here in Australia. Nobody is interested in selling their gift cards so there is no choice but to use a CC. They set set the subscription to auto-renew and disable the option to remove the auto-renewal online as American account holders can. Then they don't allow you to remove the CC details because auto-renewal is active.
Beware the greed. They don't really care if it your kids, a drunk you, or hackers spending on your account. The more the merrier for they profit whether the spend is a conscious decisions or the result of criminal activity. Deny them this as much as possible.

Can't see why you've been buried.
I think it's maddening how so many corporations are trying to set up automated revenue streams through online means. They make money off trading and selling our personal information, but when it comes to security, they drop the ball and consumers lose.
Apple portrays themselves as an equitable, ethical company. But they're just another group of executives and investors trying to maximize profit.
f**k Apple and any other company that worries about their own PR needs over the finances of their own customers.
myztryJun 7, 2011
The why to being buried is simple.
Some people are either attached to those revenue streams or would like to think they could emulate the same.
Recurring sales, whether "ethically" achieved or not, are the wet dream of the middleman sales agent.
agmlauncherJun 7, 2011
Alright, deleted all my CC info from my iTunes account. Good to know I can't trust Apple to keep it safe. Hopefully the hacks are localized and not on Apple's server where they undoubtedly keep the info stored unencrypted like every other idiotic tech company on this planet seems to.
cleverboyJun 7, 2011
There's an understandable confusion in the press between PHISHING and HACKING.
If iTunes is HACKED, you're at home in your bed, and next morning you wake up, and discover someone has gotten into your account and stolen your personal data, etc.
With "PHISHING", people are approached by someone via email, claiming to be Apple or some related entity. They ask you to enter your email address and password, and now they're in your account.
I imagine any basic piece of malware allowed into the App Store good do this as well, which would make Apple liable. If a user is prompted for a username and password in an app, the app could just record it remotely and promptly crash and pretend like nothing happened.
Is this last one "hacking" or "phishing"? I'd say its a "hack" in that case... because they broke through Apple's customer protections. If this in fact has happened, it would be a BIG story. Otherwise, phishing isn't a big story. It's a fact of life on the Internet. Apple can't actually stop them. Facebook certainly can't. All they do is keep warning people to be suspicious of anyone who only knows your email address and not your name.
RalphusOneJun 8, 2011
fortunately, i had no cc info in there ( I guess I deleted it last time I heard about this s**t). I did, however, put in a fake address.

How do the victims know this was not simply the work of some Windows virus?
If Windows got infected and hackers used their PC to buy the hackers own merchandise, the same malware could have removed their credit card number.
Why do they assume Apple knew/did anything?
Checking a Windows PC for viruses does not prove anything. It is no secret that each antivirus program on the market only notices some and not all malware.
By the looks of things the past few years, to say nothing of the past few months - that is not nearly enough.
People are having their checking accounts drained as well when they use PCs to do online banking. This has been going ton for half a decade. Read the articles. Banks say, "run an antivirus checker on your PC next time-". Bank customer says, "I did". N-obody learns. They can't get it through their heads antivirus software does not notice, stop, nor remove everything.
If you go to a school where everyone is sick all the time, the food is contaminated, people don't wash their hands after going to the restroom - do you think washing your hands before meals is going to keep you from getting sick?
Hardly.
jeworldJun 7, 2011
If you had money in gift cards in your account, and suddenly it's gone without your authorization, something needs to be done by Apple here.
bluebirdgmJun 7, 2011
From the original report, it seems to me that the problem primarily lies with Sega's "Kingdom Conquest" app. Apple is still responsible for keeping the app in the App Store and not taking steps to patch the problem, but they're not entirely at fault.
asdafasdfafsadfafadafsasJun 7, 2011
B-b-but I thought Apple and iTunes were perfect.
bobdigiJun 8, 2011
I don't think I've seen anyone say iTunes was perfect.

theonaldJun 7, 2011
I guess we're all waiting for Steve Jobs to get better...so he can put a stop to this madness. He's kinda like an Apple Batman :)
mobislinkJun 7, 2011
Firs Sony now Apple. This seems to be the year of the hacker.
mrteqJun 7, 2011
This is most likely a result of the Sony Playstation user name / password list that was stolen and distributed. Since people often use the same email/password combination it's easy to test the list against apple.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
xKarmaPolicexJun 8, 2011
Hahahaha if these hackers untied with the ones who hacked sony they could create the best company in my opinion.
johnnysoftwareJun 7, 2011
Lots of people running Windows are having their bank accounts broken into by malware like Zeus. Lots of people have had their credit card numbers stolen by institutions that had their number stored in their sales or verification computer that ran Windows.
Has something changed?

I know I can't help but laugh at the second most wealthy company in the world with more cash on hand than most publicly traded companies have in market cap.

Hmm.. there must be a mistake. Apple computers and software cannot be hacked or get viruses.
richlistJun 7, 2011
A hack also happened about 6 weeks ago where I, and many others found that we'd all bought Texas Hold 'Em poker credits and our credit card details had been removed. It was over Twitter, but I didn't find any sites covering it.

johnomazzJun 7, 2011
My wife tried to download an app the other day. It popped up that my account was locked. No idea how that happened. I haven't had an iPhone in ages and since my e-mail address is still tied to the account, I know my wife hasn't downloaded anything in ages too. There is no way my account info was leaked out except for off of Apple's servers. Pretty sure my credit card info was expired on it. My wife did recently put a giftcard on the account she was given and bought some songs. I'll see if she had a balance left and if its still there.
