This is a given. This is exactly why traditional journalism and learning is moving to computers

I agree up to some extent as there is a slight difference between knowledge and education. Web may be a great source of information as well as knowledge but specific education will still remain the headache of universities/schools.

Are you telling me that you memorized that fact when anyone with a cell phone can find it out in 30 seconds?"
socialhypeOct 7, 2010
it most certainly is!
justcallmealOct 7, 2010
it also allows for everyone to set their own pace at education either learning quickly or taking their time to understand what they cannot get. Instead of being left behind because the classroom moves to quickly or held back because the class moves to slowly.

Obviously...there's so many ways we could use the web to make education better. Our education system right now is ancient. It's sucks too

Interesting fact (could be outdated) - Bill Gates earns $250 every second; that’s about $20 million a day and $7.8 billion a year!
TomHanks4Oct 7, 2010
He is filthy rich, but does seem to make an honest effort to do some good. His foundation and charitable acts set an example that some other rich corporate entities *cough* apple *cough* fail to match.

Web is full of valuable information that can help us to increase our knowledge, but can't educate us in that manner that school does.

"No one will need more than 637 kb of memory for a personal computer"
Do I have to say more?
grammerpantsOct 7, 2010
Except he never actually said that, and there has never been any citation for that quote.

Hey, if it's on the web it must be true, right?.

I am currently taking an online education, and it's pretty awesome. I sucked at school. The school desk was my worst enemy, I had a bad attention span and going 7 hours of school was just too much.
Now I can read for 1 hour, take a break, read some more etc etc. It's outstanding, and I am learning more than I ever did in school!

It's either lots of memorization of facts vs. only search for facts. Yes, students need to know how to find information. And yes, there are things that students shouldn't have to research because they remember them.

Bill gates is a douch bag.
