telegraph.co.uk— Internet users who become dependent on being online have showed signs of changes in the brain similar to alcoholics and cocaine addicts, it was reported ....

If that is the case then why do most of the people I know who are internet enthusiasts seem to use the internet less and less as the years go by? Maybe in the early days a lot of folks spent all day surfing the web, but it really does seem like people tend to be more of the get-in-and-get-out types anymore.
I understand what you are saying that my experience may not be typical, but I have been doing desktop IT support for about 8 years, 5 of that running my own business for mainly individual professional clients.
So in reality, your anecdote only applies to me if I had like 5000 grandmothers. :D
Which is not enough to have an SF book written about ;-).
Anyway, it still is an anecdote. My experience is that people are more on the Internet compared to the 90's and I don't see people pick up other things instead. (Running my own business since the mid-90's, as a programmer, customers world-wide)
My question then, Is this, what about, Those users, who use the internet, on a daily Basis, as their career, or employment? Are they too, showing changes tn the brain, similar to alcoholics and cocaine addicts, or is it just, those, who become dependent on being online? Or Does it also show, in those, who's Job, Depends on their being online??

That's the important part: they don't know if it's cause or consequence. People with addiction disorders will become addicted to anything

Anything that we do on consistent basis eventually effects the brain like any other addiction.
Humans are creatures of habit so it's natural for us to want to do the same things over and over again, whether it be good or bad for us.

So you think this is all made up because of your experience? Your anecdote is like "my grandmother smoked a lot and she died when she was 120".
