I'm guessing that Digg's current strategy is to weather the storm of user backlash until we get bored of complaining and actually leave. I imagine that they have contracts with paying publishers, and they're not going to break them over the complaints of a bunch of lowly end users.

Not to start a flame war, but I think the people who love reddit so much are exactly people I personally would be happy to see leave digg. Just take a quick look at reddit's main page, once you get over how ugly it is read the stories. One of the top stories is "You motherf**kers" another is "So Helium walks into a bar and orders a beer..." the people moving to reddit are not looking for news, they are looking for a old style forum to post all the random crap they make up themselves.
They are all so excited that they are messing with the digg front page, and thankfully for me I do not care anymore. Because I am using Digg v4 properly I did not see any of this crap on my main page. Ignore the fuss. It will go away, in a week or so. The old Digg won't come back, the kids are just crying and hollering over the remains of a demolished building clamoring for it to be rebuilt eveb as the rubble is being taken away. In time, they'll have to get over it. They'll just leave for another ersatz community that will crush them again in due time or stay here and shut up. ;)
If anything, Kevin Rose should be commended for calling bulls**t on all the claims by internet users that they somehow "own" the network. It's not the case. Corporations own the Internet, and they will steer it the way Money says. :D
