'$10 billion from $60+ billion TV ad buying budgets'

Only people that will be left to resist the Facebook Borg will be us angry loners with no Facebook account.

Because its "employees" are also its customers.

same goes for Google.

Sorry, but Google's custoemrs are NOT internet users, moron. Unless you are implying that every Google employee has an Ad Words account.

Social networking websites come and go, Google is always around (f**king survivor!).
As for being as big as Google in 5 years, will facebook even be around in 5 years? It probably will but i'd be surprised if it was still the biggest social networking site.
eslamicolt3Oct 3, 2010
I don't think so. I don't think people are constantly looking for the next social networking site. There are 500 million people on facebook. It works, and it works well. All of my friends are on it. What reason do I have to test the waters of some new start-up that has no better functionality, and none of my friends are using? Myspace, friendster, all these other sites that were once popular, none of them REALLY got it right. That's why there was room for competition. There is no longer much room for it. If you want to see proof that people will keep using a service that just works well, ask google what they're being traded at right now.
antimattOct 3, 2010
I mostly agree, but I do see a problem. I no longer give status updates on Facebook. My friends list includes coworkers, family, acquaintances as well as my close friends. I like to make silly comments, but don't want those to be seen by my coworkers, for example, so Facebook has turned into an entirely passive experience for me.

Yeah...and you represent the half a billion users.
yogrammammaOct 3, 2010
i agree. On the ride back home from the theaters after having just seen The Social Network, i was discussing with friends whether Facebook would be around still in 5 years. I argued that it would because it's reaching a level that is basically leaving no room for any newcomer to step in. Barring any major gaffe on Facebook's part, it's here to stay because of several reasons, some of which you mentioned. Plus, the more people that join, the less reason there is for anyone to leave or try some alternate service.
I think the "next big thing" will take over Facebook when the time comes for their to be a large paradigm shift in the way we interact socially. So in other words, whenever we move beyond computer/website based services, and onto something more futuristic (whatever that ends up being), whatever entity thats responsible for that next major shift will ultimately take over Facebook. It won't be another website based social networking site.

Wow! That is hte most blatant attempt to suck Sergey and Larry's c**k EVER! Google has always been around? For what, like 10 years? And on top for less than that? Yeah! There sure is NO WAY that could ever change!
If you really think that, you have forfeited all right to ever communicate with human beings gain.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Facebook is more man to submit

People used to thing that MySpace was unstoppable.. and before that there was Friendster and Second Life. Or Digg. I do notice quite a lot of people are getting disillusioned with Facebook or resistant to signing up.. and given the large penetration we can certainly expect growth to tail off.
Closed AccountOct 3, 2010
no one ever gave a s**t about friendster or second life, they just made good news stories
joaobOct 3, 2010
You don't matter.
The people who do poured over 60 millions dollars into what was essentially the first true social network.

No one EVER thought that any of those you mentioned (certainly not Digg whom most people have never heard of) was unstoppable.
mrzaikoOct 3, 2010
Facebook knows all about myspace mistakes and as sad as it sounds, they will get bigger with time, I believe with the right minds behind it it could transform into something HUGE. But I rather trust google with my data than Facebook...
JG5Oct 3, 2010
Google and Facebook both develop things that has made our lives easier.
The difference between the 2 is that Google has developed things that make my life easier everyday.
Facebook has helped me reconnect with old friends, and it has done an amazing job at it, but the fact is I don't need to use it everyday.
With Google I do need to use Gmail, Google Search, and even my own cell phone (that runs Android) pretty much every single day.
Google is just a lot more involved in my life than Facebook is, even if Facebook knows me more.
Hell....I forgot about Google Chrome which I need to even go to Facebook.

As I said above o the last idiot...yeah..and YOU represent the half billion Facebook users completely!
Guess what, pathetic loser...most people have NEVER used a Google product other htan google.com. (Not counting youtube.) Gmail...the service with the highest market share aside from serach has around 20% share. (Of a market with more than 100% since many people have multiple.) In other words, 4 out of 5 people don't use Gmail. And the other services are less than 10%. WAY less. Most poeple don't give a f**k about Buzz, or Wave, or Docs, or Checkout, etc. Most people spend FAR more time on Facebook every day than Google. The numbers back that up.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
digitaldeadstarOct 3, 2010
It definitely has potential to get bigger. And it most likely will. But on that same note... it's the internet. Things come and go. Especially social networking sites. The internet audience is a fickle one, and they certainly have no objections to bouncing from one site to another at the drop of a hat.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

I'd like to borrow their crystal ball.
vbgamer45Oct 3, 2010
Facebook will get bigger and will end up making more money in the end. They have all the information on the users which makes it the perfect advertising platform which equals targeted ads which you can't do as well with adwords. Hoping they develop a publisher network something like FacebookAds for sites. I heard once they finish facebook credits they are going to make a very good amount of income and basicly require any apps that generate income to use facebook credits then take 30% of the sale. Just for the major apps like farmville that would be a huge about of income.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

You can survive without a phone, but you can't survive without water. Google is more like a utility company and will last longer than facebook.

Google has far more competition. Again..to you social outcasts with no basis in the real world...MOST people don't give a f**k about ANYTHING Google has introduced in over a decade. 80% of internet users use NOTHING with Google's name on it other than searching with Google.com.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

To suggest that FB will not be around in 5 years misses the mark. FB has already been around a long time. I was on there from close to the beginning, I still use it. For me and my friends (were are all in our 30's, have families, moved away from each other) Facebook is the only way we communicate with each other. We have all given up FriendsReunited and even email. Why bother with email when there is Facebook?
So yes, it can be bigger than Google. Why? Google relies on search traffic and ads on Adsense sites for its revenue. As much as it has tried to diversify that is its core business. People use Google to get to where they want to go. People use Facebook as it is where they want to be. They are more engaged. Or to put it another way, FB has you by the balls. Watch out Google. Either get Orkut / Buzz / Wave / Friend Connect / Sites / Blogspot / Groups and whatever else unified, or watch your brand slowly disintegrate.
fognozzleOct 4, 2010
Why bother with email?
Try forwarding a message using Facebook... oh yeah, you can't.
Or for that matter, try sharing a photo with resolution higher than 1MP... can't do that either. Facebook does a lot of things but none of them too well.
sethcOct 4, 2010
lol why is Groupon one of the images facebook is eating? I'm pretty sure they could find a bigger website than that.

But I can live without facebook. I don't have one anyway.

Again...and YOU represent everyone! Someone whose life is SO f**king sad that you actually have no problem declaring that you can't live without an internet company.
I've said it many times but it is amazing how often it applied to Diggers...MOST people (pretty much everyone except pathetic Diggers) willl never say on their deathbed "I wish I spent more time online instead of enjoying the touch of a beautiful woman."Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

How many thought it was a killer business decision?
I did. Because they paid the same amount for ad exclusivity ANd a small percent of ownership in an up andcoming website than Google did for JUST ad exclusivity in MySpace.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Can ANY of you think OUTSIDE OF THE BOX?????? Companies survive by ADAPTING and EVOLVING. Was Facebook the same in 2003? No. Was Google the same? No. Was (insert company here) the same? If your answer is "yes", I GUARANTEE they're either dead, or soon will be.
Companies like Google and Facebook hire some of the world's most brilliant people to run their s**t. They will probably never miss out on a great idea. If they do, they'll take that great idea, and do an EVEN BETTER JOB at it! Facebook wasn't always the largest photo site. Neither were they always the largest Social Network site.
Now, let me go think up that next great idea so Facebook or Google can buy me out. ;)

This article is dumb. Facebook is set to be bigger than Google in far less than 5 years. And that is bigger than Google is THEN, not today.
mikescosOct 4, 2010
I agree that Facebook will continue to grow (that is if it is kept to a free service), but I do not think that it would outgrow Google ever. Google has a monopoly growing business and they aren't slowing down any time soon.

I am so... less than impressed with Facebook. It's a terrible replacement for email. It's a piss-poor photo sharing site. I still think that status updates are stupid. It *does* work well as a contacts list (assuming your friends use and will continue to use Facebook), but that's about it.
brunapeOct 4, 2010
Is it possible? =)
buycontactlensOct 4, 2010
I hope not .. i hope someone out there can come up with another social networking site and compete with facebook .. no competition means monopoly and is no good for consumer like us

Face Book... hoooo ! like "Cover-Book " sound as a nice new library thing.
I will give it a try one day
