Interesting article, but restricting Google's buying ability just doesn't sit well with me. Large company buy-outs also really benefit the small companies trying to succeed!
kftcbrosefDec 17, 2010
Google is a great company with awesome ideas and intentions. Why stop something that finally got the right idea, being progressive?
Closed AccountDec 17, 2010
Their intentions are NO different from any other company. To maximize profitability any way possible.
mrkmrkDec 17, 2010
And the problem with that is what, exactly? You say that like it's a f**king bad thing.
kftcbrosefDec 17, 2010
Obviously they try to maximize profit, but they're also working toward a progressive business structure. Look at how they treat their employees. Look at the amazing services they provide for free to their users. And now look at the profits they make. They're being very nice people, and everyone wins in the end. So how is this a bad thing?
jeffdabeatDec 17, 2010
Um...do we need to be reminded of Google's stance on Net Neutrality on Mobile Devices? Think of all those Android phones and their network providers being able to restrict the speed of their phones pulling up non-Google websites. Or paying a premium to access those sites. Google isn't the GOOD company from years ago.
I don't have a lot against Google, but I think we need to be aware of the huge amount of information they have on all of us. Not to say they will use it for bad things, but my fear is that Google will hold more power than even our government (something that has happened in the past). I know that sounds all conspiracy theory-ish, but think about how much of your life is connected to Google. Planning a trip, you use Google Maps. Writing something, but can't afford MS Office, use Google Office. Plus all the other stuff they have.
I dunno, I hope Google stays all good. But I almost feel like it's hoping a communist government stays good. It sounds awesome, but it only takes one greedy leader to kill it all...And we know business people can kill that pretty quickly. Do you trust all your info to the next Google CEO who may not be as nice as the current?
kftcbrosefDec 18, 2010
Well I've never had to pay a premium for access to non-Google sites. And still, who cares about all the information they have? All of it is in public records anyway. Name, address, all kinds of stuff.
TomHanks4Dec 17, 2010
very few companies "maximize profits any way possible". they all have to draw the line somewhere. some push things to the legal limits as far as treatment of employees, wages paid, etc.
as far as corporations go, google seems to be treatinf both their employees and their customers quite well so far.
eldridgeaDec 17, 2010
But see the cool thing about Google is the way for them to make more money is to have more people see their ads.
Meaning more free stuff! And a company whose profitability lies in a very fast completely open Internet.
m3arvkDec 17, 2010
Google's the technological arm of big brother. Better to nip the Devil's technology arm in the bud before it gets too powerful.
kftcbrosefDec 17, 2010
So we should stop the growth of a really smart and progressive company because...why?
m3arvkDec 17, 2010
I just told you why.
kftcbrosefDec 17, 2010
Not really. You said basically "We should stop this before it gets too powerful."
KRESHDec 17, 2010
People are scared of powerful things, but Google so far has lived up to the "with great power comes great responsibility" motto by being VERY reliable, VERY original, and most importantly VERY customer oriented. I don't have a problem with a company becoming very powerful as long as it's a good company, which Google is.
kftcbrosefDec 17, 2010
Agreed. They're not causing any type of harm to anyone, so why should they be stopped in the middle of something great? Other industries and businesses should take after Google and adopt their policies, because Google and the people it serves are in a win-win situation, and nobody's complaining except for people who reject moving forward as a society.
KRESHDec 17, 2010
Yeah they shouldn't be punished because they are excelling.
Compare it to pickup basketball games, winner stays on. And right now Google is the winner until another team (company) beats them. Just cause they're good doesn't mean they should be punished, makes no sense.
kftcbrosefDec 17, 2010
Good luck to whoever contests them...Nobody wants anything but Google in the first place. I'd never switch, I love the company. I mean, I guess I'd switch if I found out they power their severs with baby kittens, but as far as I know, that's not happening so I'm sticking with what I've known my entire life.

As I posted in the thread regarding Steve Pearlstein's original article, which was listed on Digg earlier, Steve Pearlstein is a f**king idiot who calls people he doesn't like "terrorists".
Closed AccountDec 17, 2010
Typical stupidity. Google is sitll a VERY minor player in most of the things they have branched out in. It is meaningless.
KRESHDec 17, 2010
Yeah, it's not like Google CONTROLS everything they're a part of.
m3arvkDec 17, 2010
Google has access to so much information and power that it already is becoming very, very dangerous. Their CEO is talking about the future of the internet as having zero privacy. We don't want that kind of leadership!
My prediction is that Google will become a tool of the power elite and will become the keystone of "a brave new world".Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
pethanksDec 17, 2010
I don't know but it is true that Google now really rows strong.
neotechniDec 17, 2010
I'd be happy if Google ran everything really. They've got efficiency down pat.
KRESHDec 17, 2010
It's not like Google is it's own country where we have to worry about it starting a war with us, it's a company that is coming up with great ideas before everyone else. I honestly would be fine with basically the entire internet being supported by Google. It's a very powerful company but I think if any company should have that much power it should be one that is creative and customer focused, like Google.
DiggAnthonyDec 17, 2010
Using this logic we should have stopped Comcast from buying NBC!
vinoth06Dec 17, 2010
Simply.. Learn from Google. You will get everything in your life..... :-)
chrihoDec 17, 2010
Google isn't too big. Google is becoming old...
WizemaneraDec 18, 2010
What happened to MSFT in the 90s is bound to happen to Google in the next decade - lots of concerns over their dominance and extension into all sorts of markets.
sharelinkitDec 30, 2010
Google = skynet
