Google is a Big Player of Search Engine World but new to Social Media. They really have to work even harder take Google + to real success as they have competition with Facebook.Let's see Who wins
norman619Jul 28, 2011
Finally an honest comment. Dugg
corvetteaustin24Jul 28, 2011
An advantage Google+ has is its integration within google services. You may hop on and do a google search, and then happen to notice in the top right that you have a notification so you hop on and check. I think both Google+ and facebook will be around for awhile.
haso18Jul 28, 2011
if google+ plays its cards right, facebook is gonna lose a lot of steam
The_SovereignJul 28, 2011
Until, suddenly, the tipping point is reached. Facebook cannot possibly compete with Google in the long-term. Facebook is an old man funbling in the dark. Google is the light.
bigtime2Jul 28, 2011
That is actually the only way I check my Google+ account. The first several days I would actually go to plus.google.com, but now I only go if I happen to search for something and see a notification, otherwise I don't visit google+.
the2dquartetJul 28, 2011
"To coin a phrase from Highlander" Eh?
You can either quote an existing phrase, or coin a new phrase. You can't coin an existing quote, that doesn't make sense.
sutleyJul 28, 2011
This is really relevant. What a great point you make. I think we can all rest easy now that you've single-handedly sorted out that dilemma.
foolishimpJul 28, 2011
please tell an adult if a pedantic touches you there ...
haso18Jul 28, 2011
who the f**k cares
The_SovereignJul 28, 2011
People who dislike being wrong all the time.
thisisedyipJul 28, 2011
Bro, you didn't even quote the first sentence right.
davehowellJul 28, 2011
Disagree. In the marketplace, people create equilibrium and the competition will not sit still for very long. Innovation moves the world forward.
corvetteaustin24Jul 28, 2011
Google is very innovative, if you haven't noticed. I'm not saying others won't be as well, but Google likes to buy up small companies with great ideas, and unlike other big corporations, they USE those ideas instead of just buying out the competition and sitting on patents.
izzmoJul 28, 2011
No they aren't... innovative is creating systems and products YOURSELF, not buying others ideas, which they do all the time (Think of gmail, Google Maps, Android.. basically everything except their crown jewel search.)Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
corvetteaustin24Jul 28, 2011
Google creates a bunch of stuff on their own, and when they do buy something, they're usually in their infancy then improves on them greatly.
But you're right, Street View, Google Labs, and letting your employees spend 20% of their work week on their own projects, whether they help google or not, ya, that's totally not innovative! /s
izzmoJul 28, 2011
Let me redefine my scope, what major projects do they have that are not originally theirs? Not many...
20% of that work you mention has to be Google related. Don't even try and pull that crap like they can just sit and play games.
corvetteaustin24Jul 28, 2011
Where did I say they sit and play games? And no, it doesn't have to be google related, but it has to be a PROJECT. Playing games isn't a project. Google has many things that are originally theirs, and the things they do buy, they "googlefy" and they have a pretty good success rate on making what they bought even better.
izzmoJul 28, 2011
@corvetteaustin24 - I will agree with you that they do make the products better, but that's out of scope. I'm simply trying to say they do not have a lot of original ideas that actually make it to the big league (out of labs) that are originally theirs.
haso18Jul 28, 2011
google will seek what you are successful at and implement it themselves soon 'nuff.
The_SovereignJul 28, 2011
Innovation is Google. Google controls most of the world's information, and soon they will control it all. If not Google, someone else. It's irrelevant who does it, and inevitable that it will be done. We must unite.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
vglegendsJul 28, 2011
It all depends on Google+....If it succeeds then I would be worried about these things. Dominance like this in so many areas, but I look back to when Microsoft was thought to dominate internet browsers, a little company called Netscape rose up..and that resulted to Mozilla. Even though I like Google they do not need to go to far beyond their means.
norman619Jul 28, 2011
It will lead to the government doing to them what they did to AT&T back in 1982.
The_SovereignJul 28, 2011
No, it will lead to Google replacing the government.
bigtime2Jul 28, 2011
I wouldn't be surprised at all if that happened.
cholt123Jul 28, 2011
When will google steal souls like cameras with a flash bulb do? I agree we should bring them down cause they are obviously evil....if you need me I will be churning butter
john_in_scunnyJul 28, 2011
The article does highlight that not everything google touches turns to gold. Although when they get something right the get it very right!
charlotte_webJul 28, 2011
Orkut being a good example.
john_in_scunnyJul 28, 2011
Blimey I had never heard of Orkut but apparently it's doing very well in Africa.
charlotte_webJul 28, 2011
India and Brazil, too. Google launched it as a competitor to Friendster. It never took off in the US; MySpace blew them out of the water. And then Facebook destroyed MySpace.
amyvernonJul 28, 2011
I tend to think that it's going to be some little upstart nothing that ends up knocking off Facebook. I'm already starting to see Google+ fatigue. It'll be interesting to see what happens in the long haul.
Also: There's actual conversation going on here? This is like the Digg of old. Freaky. Even someone correcting the author. Good times.
dusanmalJul 28, 2011
Fatigue will not be what restricts Google+. Reluctance to use yet another service/aspect of online life with major data collector is their biggest hurdle (we may see it in user numbers leveling-off sooner than everyone expects). Unfortunately that restricts mainly adults. I predict flocking of teenagers to Google+ and its circles... that may sustain it from failure. Add to it Facebook fatigue and I agree with you- there is space here for complete newbie to become a top dog very fast.
bigtime2Jul 28, 2011
From what I can tell the only submissions with conversations are the ones that are recommended by Digg staff. Everything else is like a ghost town.
tekladomagJul 28, 2011
This is what people thought about Facebook. Everything changes.
The_SovereignJul 28, 2011
Correction, it's what ignorant morons thought about Facebook. There is no comparing the two.
bigtime2Jul 28, 2011
Facebook is still fairly young. Give it another year or two to compete against Google+ and then we'll see what happens.
futfanaticoJul 28, 2011
The Google backlash already exists - people prefer Blekko because it slashes out content farms, and those concerned with privacy use DuckDuckGo.
DavidM01Jul 28, 2011
People have said the same thing about Compuserve, AOL, Microsoft, EBay, etc for decades.
They all fell to the wayside because once they get big enough they stop innovating. As long as they innovate the consumers win , once they don't the next up and comer will win.
stubearJul 28, 2011
If this does come to pass it will only be because Google took a play from Microsoft's playbook by tying EVERYTHING to the Google account required to use ANY of their services. Mix that with pre-installing all Google apps onto Android phones and you have Google pulling a Microsoft. With data lock-in on these online services it's even more difficult to switch to alternative services. While not ideal, at least you could work with Office docs in other apps. Try to communicate with Google+ friends using Facebook.
BaliShagRedJul 28, 2011
in google we trust!
pakninjas1Jul 28, 2011
That's why Google is at the top.
norman619Jul 28, 2011
That the top of what?
The_SovereignJul 28, 2011
Information.
pakninjas1Jul 29, 2011
Top of the other search engines. It is also popular for it's products.
nullcodesJul 28, 2011
Well it's either Google or Apple (with a slight chance of Microsoft).. choose your poison.
Google seems to at least embrace open concepts. So, i think google is the most friendly choice.
Closed AccountJul 28, 2011
What "success" have they have in taking down competitors? Google+ is hardly a success. Less than 1 1/2 page views per user per day shows that people are signing up and then never coming back.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
brownoxJul 28, 2011
Nice try facebook.
norman619Jul 28, 2011
What do you get from hating Facebook? I mean seriously...
bigtime2Jul 28, 2011
It's the new company to hate. It was Microsoft not too long ago, now it's Facebook.
Before you know it, Google will be the company to hate.
dirtyfriesJul 28, 2011
I think Google+ killed backuy's childhood pet or something. He makes it a point to comment on every sub about how poor it is (without any actual statistical evidence of course).
twiterrenceJul 28, 2011
I agree with cholt123, Google is on track consume every profitable industry that exists in the world today. It won't be long before we are issued our unique brandable, scanable numeric QR code like Google ID's, which will be required to access everything from our bank accounts to our medical records. cholt123 your right on track maybe your Google ID will be cholt666 and your Google QR code will have a hidden symbol of the beast.
Is Google in bed with the Government or some cult claiming to be a church? Who knows or cares I think the only way to protect your self is to apply for a job at Google because whatever they are doing the are doing it fast and doing it well. "If you can't beat em join em" a old cliche I stole from Satan himself :)

There will always be a leader in the market. The business cycle is never ending and evolves. The start up spawns competition, and the competition grows stronger. Consumers decide who will be the leader not companies. Push marketing doesn't work well in today's digital environment.
targetclickJul 29, 2011
It's Google's world, we just live in it.
JudyAMeibachJul 28, 2011
They have a monopoly on everything!
JudyAMeibachJul 28, 2011
They have a monopoly on everything!
rudegarJul 28, 2011
so everything will get eaten by the nothingness and all with end?
SpiritedFun77Jul 28, 2011
Great point, Google maybe the dominate leader in search, social media and local business controls. We will see if Google+ ends up dominating Face Book.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
norman619Jul 28, 2011
It's dominant is search not anything else. It is TRYING to branch out.
The_SovereignJul 28, 2011
Yeah, it's dominant in information. From this position, they can better plan how to outmaneuver all competitors and governments. They cannot be stopped.
