It's amazing what money will do.
I'll still never use their services ever again.
squeeg50Dec 30, 2011
I actually just registered a domain with them before the s**t storm. I've been out of the game for 10 years, so I had no idea about the newer, better registrars. I will certainly be transferring away soon.
thejaidoggDec 30, 2011
Same here, Squeeg. Cool that they caved - but will be transferring as well. Let me know where you wind up!
breadfredDec 29, 2011
So they now oppose a bill they actually helped writing themselves? I'd love to see the minutes of those meetings to see how much they contributed to this bill - and was actually calling the shots.
Do you have some kind of 'Freedom of information' act so you can request the minutes of these meetings? If not than it damn well should be - as all these commissions are paid for by YOU, the tax payer.
let's get some openness, clarity, let's find out who is calling the shots. You have the RIGHT to know.

I wonder if the SOPA clause that prevents SOPA from shutting down GoDaddy sites is still in there. Even if they say they "oppose" it, if the bill is passed then they still win out in the end.
johnnysoftwareJan 10, 2012
Probably not. It's a private company so private meetings probably stay private.
I think they are getting bought up by a big company. So you might want to keep tabs on that and give its new owners a wide birth too. A merger would effectively make the buyer the 'GoDaddy' company.
subterfugDec 30, 2011
Too little, too late GoDaddy. You've shown your true colors.
xaulted1Dec 30, 2011
Too late. Bury these bastards as an example.
roguegeniusDec 30, 2011
Day late and a dollar short.
lucidhawkDec 30, 2011
Capitalism is as good as it's consumers, big companies always exploit if they can but they will also always bow if they get enough press, ALWAYS. And if a company bows to the majority of consumers that makes them a good company. So I'm for supporting them now. It's good to show them it matters that they changed their position. Though IMO ideally for general rule if a company f's up in the same way again, never do business with them again..
grammerpantsDec 30, 2011
"And if a company bows to the majority of consumers that makes them a good company."
I don't think it was a majority of their consumers. But it was enough for them to oppose a bill they helped write. I would have loved to have been their for that bored meeting.
analogassassinDec 30, 2011
"been their for that bored meeting."
Are you s**tting me?
breadfredDec 30, 2011
He is pants at grammar AND spelling.
mindbulletDec 30, 2011
I would agree, but not in this case. In their statement they couldn't even acknowledge why their (former) users left them in the first place. I mean just read the heart of their statement:
"GoDaddy opposes SOPA because the legislation has not fulfilled its basic requirement to build a consensus among stake-holders in the technology and Internet communities."
There's nothing in this statement about how this legislation is abusive and far over reaching in its scope. Its insulting. If you weren't reading close, you could almost think they were talking solely about their own bottom line (and maybe they are).
johnnysoftwareJan 10, 2012
Congress does not even consider technical Internet users to have any standing in the SOPA discussions, according to latest article I read.
They're just citizens who are people. The many who don't count any, with this current Congress.
shroomtimeDec 30, 2011
"And if a company bows to the majority of consumers that makes them a good company."
Good company is going too far, at best they're still a s**tty company that just managed to survive the onslaught.
Schweppesale2Dec 30, 2011
Sure, Godaddy is very sorry:

Ironic that this link has the potential take down then entire Digg domain if SOPA passes.
johnnysoftwareDec 30, 2011
LOL, I have a hunch they were set up.
Who at the company made the decision to write part of SOPA and where did he work before?
linngubalaDec 30, 2011
Cool, boycotts work!
VeronicaBrasten86Dec 30, 2011
I need to read up more on this junk. I use godaddy, but if they are going to be all nutty... uh....
jordonwiiDec 30, 2011
For everyone who's participating in the boycott: check out http://www.boycott-godaddy.com/ and enter the number of domains you're transferring.
blankmikeDec 30, 2011
This isn't about the technology. It's about the politics behind SOPA. While this is an important story it is necessary to understand why it is important. So GoDaddy is a hosting company... What difference would it make if it were a bakery supporting SOPA?
rusty0101Dec 30, 2011
Hmm.. considering lead times, I suppose that their commercial block for the Superbowl has already been paid for and the commercials shot. Wonder if they are going to have to re-shoot them.
thewriteguyDec 30, 2011
Not good enough.
Destroy them. To serve as an example and a warning to other companies that support SOPA. Consumers need to finally take a stand -- no mercy.
NeosopheusDec 30, 2011
How completely disingenuous of them. Whats's that old saying? Don't bite the hand that feeds you...
batwaffelDec 30, 2011
Anyone have suggestions on which registrars to move to from GoDaddy? I want my domains off there ASAP.
matt35Dec 30, 2011
Check out ipage, which is who I switched to a few years back, after getting fed up with GoDaddy's slow servers, and messy control panel. Their servers are green, and they're way cheaper too. So far, I've been pretty happy.
rusty0101Dec 30, 2011
Shop around a bit. There are plenty to pick from. I've had good luck with simpleurl.com, and I do other business with Hover. Do a Google search for domain registrars and look through the offerings. If none of them appear to be related to your interests, have a look at reviews (google search, don't rely on the registrars themselves to provide usable reviews) and see what turns up.
mybellegirlsDec 29, 2011
After 6 years of hosting with them, I would have dumped/boycotted them too. Good thing FOR THEM they changed their course.
grammerpantsDec 30, 2011
They helped write the bill. They haven't changed their course.
