I don't get this argument. Sure, if you are having membership site or you are having web shop this is the way to go. But use encryption for everything is just not necessary IMHO.

I think seat belt is stretching it a bit. The correct car analogy (got to love them) would be using ABS break system instead of standard one. So with ABS you DO get more security but without it your breaks doesn't seem to stop functioning all of the sudden.
