torrentfreak.com — Since 2010 a group of self-confessed pirates have tried to get their beliefs recognized as an official religion in Sweden. After their request was denied several times, the Church of Kopimism - which holds CTRL+C and CTRL+V as sacred symbols - is now approved by the authorities as an official religion. The Church hopes that its official status will remove the legal stigma that surrounds file-sharing.

I think this is awesome!
Every single individual should create their own religion and create a tax exempt status for themselves.
I love it when people f@#k with the system in such a funny way.

Another fine example of people operating under the guise of religion to further their own ends.
njdoo7Jan 4, 2012
Not sure what you mean here by "guise of religion," but..
If certain groups get special privileges from the government for their religious beliefs, people who don't have an officially recognized religion should be allowed to form their own to get equal treatment.
Who's to say one religion is more valid than another?
NeosopheusJan 5, 2012
guise (noun): An external form, appearance, or manner of presentation, typically concealing the true nature of something.
It is not a religion, just a means to justify behavior that has been declared illegal. "...there is a large group of people who actually consider copying to be a sacred act....In the hope that they could help prevent persecution for their beliefs,..."
"...,people who don't have an officially recognized religion should be allowed to form their own to get equal treatment." In this case, they want special treatment; it has nothing to do with equal treatment.

Every religion at its core demands special treatment
njdoo7Jan 5, 2012
Yes it does have something to do with equal treatment. Others received special privileges for their religions while these people didn't. That is unequal.
I see no less validity to this religion than any other.
akronJan 4, 2012
Like all other religions
thegadgetsguy310Jan 4, 2012
agreed. governments need to stop falling for this. in what twisted world could this actually be considered a religion?
bookantJan 5, 2012
Well . . . . they use their irrational beliefs to justify behaviors that the rest of us know to be wrong. Sounds like religion to me.
motozeroJan 5, 2012
How can any of you justify any religion when it is a made up belief system. You have no facts, only numbers of people that believe in what was made up by other humans. What is to say that a religion I make up tomorrow is false? The God that your people made up is the only true one, that is totally logical? How can a government make decisions and pass laws based on something that is not based on fact, evidence, or even reality? Separation of church and state means separation of fiction and fact to me and governments screw that up when they grant religions any other privilege than freedom.

Huh...how can this be a religion/ Sometimes it feels that the whole world is slipping into an alternate reality than the one we live in.

Only a degenerate country like Sweden would establish a degenerate group as an official religion.
mymainmanJan 6, 2012
Only a degenerate country like USA would establish a degenerate law like SOPA.
Best regards.
