I must say that Digg is doing a fantastic job listening to the community and implementing new features. Great job Digg Team!
hackiewackieFeb 1, 2011
Yep, specially kudos to the staff members who are replying swiftly :)
lethainFeb 1, 2011Staff
Our pleasure :)
GothamPlayboyFeb 1, 2011
Keep up the great work... or else.
thekadFeb 1, 2011Staff
Thank ye kindly.
str3amaFeb 5, 2011
I'd recommend allowing us to see the full list of who's digging posts.
Also the return of a category dedicated to design/programming - seems like this section just died when v4.0 came out.
kftcbrosefFeb 9, 2011
Both ideas are great!
javaroastFeb 2, 2011
Digg has a long, long way to go. Lost in all of this is what they can do to bring back commenters. No I don't mean those who post really informative post or others who comment to add weight to their digg circles posted article. I mean real commenters. Since the mass exodus, the quality and timeliness of content has dropped. As much as the members of the digging circles claim to digg quality content the real truth is they mutually digg mostly in disregarding quality. The commenters were where the high digg counts came from and who policed the quality. Certain stories these days I can predict who the first post is going to be by based on the submitter, and I can watch as the first 3 posts get identical digg ups by fellow digg circle members.
The obvious gaming still needs to be addressed. Preferably by using the algorithm instead of heavier handed methods.
blydchyldFeb 4, 2011
Some very good points, as its a social site Digg could invest in allowing some forms of community moderation.
Either allow long term members to become 'sub-moderators' or instigate a system where a post receives x amount of mark ups and then gets passed to a team member.
For the credibility of Digg to return we need to start seeing less things like the 'lorry headlight store' advert that was front page with over 200 diggs.
bobosmitorFeb 1, 2011
I am glad Digg is listening to its users.
I know the changes will bring new users and old users back.
Looks very promising so far.
phoenixp3kFeb 3, 2011
Really felt Matt was talking about my behavior, still checking the site from time to time, but not digging. I'm inspired to try and believe in digg once again.
thegeek20Feb 3, 2011
Yes that's right lets hope for the best.
anothersoldierFeb 5, 2011
I am one of the regular Digg users that left and went to Reddit. Reddit was short lived, believe me. After a few weeks I quickly got bored of Reddit and my social news sources slowly faded. But from time to time, I would come back to digg secretly to read the news.
This is the first time I have logged in for 6 months. I am glad Digg is heading in the right direction and admits its faults. I am proud to say I will no longer be visiting Digg in secret :P
aristideauFeb 9, 2011
Dont want to turn this in a digg vs reddit argument, but I am curious as to why you find reddit boring?, especially since javaroast mentioned that the quality of comments here on digg has dropped. And it is ironic that blydchyld recommends moderators LOL

The recent changes in the Digg are appreciated by the Digg community which is a positive sign for Digg. I hope that Digg will get huge traffic,Diggs and comments back just like before v4.
thegeek20Feb 3, 2011
Yes some of the changes are appreciated by digg community but some of old features are missing in new digg, lets hope digg team will fix them up.

The new chances actually are very pleasant...the next thing I want to see here is Digg giving more room to small publishers. They will be amazed to see how much more users/traffic they will gain
aliwangwangbabaFeb 1, 2011
with the new action, I think a lot lost visitors will back soon. good jobs.
louiebaurFeb 1, 2011
That's cool that the undigg feature will come back sometime this year.
crodulfoFeb 4, 2011
the feeling of digging something that you dont really "dig" sucksss!!!! i hope they make it easier to undigg than it was before.
ObligedcartonFeb 1, 2011
So far Digg is doing great! Everything that everyone wants is finally back!
danielrh9Feb 1, 2011
Great to see Digg and Rev 3 getting Uncle Leo for this. I'd really like to see him do this more often, he's a great interviewer.
danbarkerFeb 1, 2011
Yeah, at first I thought he would be soft and rubbish... but he asked some pretty tough questions.
krayziekydFeb 1, 2011
pretty sure rev3 had nothing to do with this. digg dialogg is a product of digg, not rev3.
cawpinFeb 2, 2011
You can't possibly be serious. Revision 3 does the shows.
http://revision3.com/shows
tssaloicFeb 3, 2011
Rev3 produces and Hosts Dialoggs since episode 4. (1 and 2 were on CNN online if I remember correctly, 3 was with Al Gore and on Current)
graemeeFeb 1, 2011
4.0 didn't kill Digg for me, well it was 4.0's adding publishers to pump their RSS feeds into Digg directly.
louiebaurFeb 1, 2011
I like the Oatmeal and all but not enough to have it in the navbar.
dcjoedogv2Feb 1, 2011
I'm pretty sure it's not permanent, can't you just appreciate the joke. Jeez.
zlz5150Feb 1, 2011
surely it's just for fun.
mikborFeb 1, 2011
It was a joke when oatmeal asked for it. Check out his comments. http://digg.com/oatmeal/comments

It is no longer there so it didn't stay up for very long.

Great interview by Leo. Love Matt's energy and Digg is in great hands. Kudos on listening to the community and heading in the right direction. Great Job to ALL at Digg!
absolutelytrueFeb 1, 2011
I sure hope that Oatmeal tab is a joke. Other than that, thanks for the promising changes.
hackiewackieFeb 1, 2011
I hope so too
Closed AccountFeb 1, 2011
It's not a joke i am seeing it right now in new design.
badqatFeb 1, 2011
It's a joke, even though it is in the new design. It won't be there forever.
lethainFeb 1, 2011Staff
It might not last forever.
cdurukFeb 1, 2011
All good things come to an end, my friend.
blydchyldFeb 4, 2011
I question that, why not allow this function to be user modified to feature their preferred sources? That way it will allow people who prefer a certain delivery medium to be highlighted or suppressed.
Think less holy taco and more news.<insertpublisher>com
sabazouFeb 1, 2011
We here at Digg do not have a sense of humor. This kind of insubordination will be SEVERELY punished and I hope for their sake whoever snuck this tab in there has their resume ready. Disgraceful...
absolutelytrueFeb 1, 2011
I hope you have a wet noodle handy.
dcjoedogv2Feb 1, 2011
Will the people responsible for the sacking be themselves sacked? Digg up if you get the reference. Don't say what it is.
batonryeFeb 12, 2011
Mind you, moose bites can be pretty nasty...
harrisbradleyFeb 2, 2011
You are in semi-good company here with your lack of sense of humor. Absolutelytrue doesn't have one either.
usingpondFeb 1, 2011
This is absolutely insane that it has a tab, but also sarcastically perfect. When most of your content comes from very few sources, it's time to point it out.
Unless the tab isn't meant to be deprecating? I personally hate the oatmeal, so that may just be my own bias.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
jer2eydevil88Feb 1, 2011
Disagree. The comments left on Oatmeal submissions are the only thing on here that serves to elevate Digg above Reddit.

Why does Leo Laporte pop around whenever there is a redesign ?
redstringFeb 1, 2011
I was wondering the same thing.
mrmann14Feb 1, 2011
"Digg V4 was my idea!" - Leo Laporte. He feels guilty for the damage done.
dcjoedogv2Feb 1, 2011
Why do you pop around every time Leo Laporte pops around every time there's a redesign?

Good move bringing Leo in to do this Digg Dialog...
imfreeofdebtFeb 1, 2011
new digg made me reupload my profile pic
mynameisjoeFeb 2, 2011
Lost mine too. I might get around to putting a new one up someday.
cawpinFeb 2, 2011
Weird, mine's fine.

Stoked, Leo is the man. We need a one on one with Kevin and Leo

Bring back the Townhall!
dfrankzorFeb 1, 2011
This was is a very good interview, most of the concerns I had have been answered. I'm excited to see where the website is headed.
adeelarshad82Feb 1, 2011
Great interview. I realize changes take time to implement. I'm just glad to see that there is a sincere effort being made to bring back the community to what it was.
Also love the new design, excited about some of the missing stats coming back.
thanks for listening.
whereismyjetpackFeb 1, 2011
I'm really digging the re-design. Thanks!
ltgenpandaFeb 1, 2011
Nice, seems like Digg is again a full aggressive mode to pounce back!
grahamhancockFeb 1, 2011
pownce back. hehe
cmccoolFeb 1, 2011
This new roll-out is a sight for sore eyes. Thanks Digg Crew!
voxshibuyaFeb 1, 2011
I genuinely feel better after watching this even though I acknowledge Matt Williams is a master of spin.
azurfireFeb 1, 2011
Making topics more like communities where people who love a specific topic can converse about it more in depth, and follow it? Sounds like they are using some ideas from Reddit. This could work well tho. I look forward to seeing how it goes.
micahcFeb 1, 2011
Thanks for answering my question and thanks for listening! Please keep up the great work!
whodoneitFeb 1, 2011
I'd love it if they had the thumbs up on the left side and the thumbs down on the right side, just switch them around.
It doesn't feel right having the negative before the positive. Let's make this a happy place.
blydchyldFeb 4, 2011
Look, your idea is stupid and petty.
And 100% correct, i always digg people down... then have to digg them twice.
randyman76Feb 1, 2011
A very informative episode. I am glad Matt explained it all.
bruggeraFeb 2, 2011
I've been one of those hiding users. I will digg. Lets bring this back.
GregoryCFeb 2, 2011
One of the best Digg Dialoggs. Leo is a superb host, and Matt came across as like-able, forthright, and very competent.
limeparrotFeb 2, 2011
lmao at Oatmeal in navbar :D
partsguy74Feb 2, 2011
Best Digg Dialog so far. Digg needs a professional interviewer like Leo, permanently..
andrihbFeb 2, 2011
You're all insane. A complete revert to v3 several months ago MIGHT have saved Digg from it's tragic self-destruction. It's over now, anything they do now is a waste of time. The people are all gone. Digg without people has no reason to exist.
themachine1Feb 2, 2011
Yeah I'm curious if an internet business that has lost its momentum has ever recovered? I can not think of any.
tssaloicFeb 3, 2011
And then they can't add new features quickly, Digg 3 was slower than 4. Most of the features were in hindsight a bad idea, but Digg probably will recover well.
alphajulietFeb 2, 2011
new digg made me comment again.
surferessFeb 2, 2011
Welcome back, Sunshine!
roodammy44Feb 2, 2011
Where are all my old comments? Are you just going to forget about all of the old data which used to make up the community?
The only reason I still have a username is in the misguided hope that one day my data will be restored.
If it's too hard, just do a damned CSV dump and upload it via torrent somewhere. It's not rocket science!
cshafferFeb 2, 2011
Great interview!
srodolffFeb 2, 2011
Could you oil the hinges on the barn door before you close it?
u2canfailFeb 2, 2011
I wish for more reply buttons, all the way down the comments. Often, I have no way to reply.
druceFeb 2, 2011
So... Leo Laporte doing interviews for tv.digg.com? When do you think we will see a rev3.com / Twit.tv merger?
jamshidFeb 2, 2011
Are the articles I marked in the past three years as Favorite ever going to be available? Can you please at least provide an export of that list?

If Digg wants to control the current and zeitgeist of the internet then its needs to be more flexible and fluent to new ideas. In this context it needs the fluency of 4Chan and the technological courage/nous of the team behind the Guardian newspaper website and Guardian iphone updates team. At this moment Digg.com is in a state of techno inertia and hubris. It needs to think outside the box.
The cosmetic changes arent enough to coax the MTV/twitter/IPhone teenagers to commit to te Digg cause.
