trLOLOLOLzzzzz.... Digg still rocks it out the box, its the publishers who suck, they need to stop being lazy and recycling garbage, it help.,... lots ;)
vtbarreraNov 23, 2010
I'm sick and tired of some publishers that expected everything on a silver platter from Digg. They got on Digg's SUL, accumulated thousands of fans, and haven't done anything but complain about how "Digg is dead".
I've got a lot of respect for the publishers that didn't sit around and mope; the proactive ones that took it upon themselves to be social are now reaping the benefits.

A tool is only as good as your skills to use it.

Bulls**t. Maybe the WORST of the spammers can still manag to do OK. Sites like totalprosports, politicususa, skateboardingmagazine...the sites that have absolutely no shame. But unless you plan on doing A LOT of c**k sucking, you cannot rely on Digg anymore. And yes...sites shouldn't be relying on Digg in the first place. But have you SEE some ofthese sites (especially the aforementioned c**k sucking sites) They absolutely NEED Digg.
So basically, this article is saying "You just gotta circle jerk better!" In other words, you have to violate the site's TOS to use it properly. Great Digg!Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

keep submitting that silicon motorboatin' content with an extra helping of the 'oh s**t!' factor. otherwise, sprinkle some bed bug poison on your whitepaper and slip it under your mattress;Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
zetadogNov 23, 2010
I could not agree more with this article. On digg the solution is so simple but still not obvious to publishers for some reason. They just need to realize there are no shortcuts on digg. The solution can be summarized with one sentence:
You get what you give!

Wow! You are out of touch. Unless by "what you give" you are talking about PAYING. Because that is how the top sites get on Digg. they PAY for submissions. And some pay for Diggs. Others simply pay people to circlejerk all day so their crap gets dugg by fellow circlejerkers.
Regardless...wasn't Digg supposed to be about QUALITY making it to the front page, and not "Sites that participate the most"Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
bigtime2Nov 24, 2010
That's what community does. If you like what you read you digg, if you don't you bury it. Eventually if majority of people like something it will reach the front page, not just about the quality of articles. If enough people like it and not enough people bury it, there is not much you can do about quality of that article.

I think most of the Digg community would like to see the site less focused on major publishers.
Could we also get some features that allow for more connection and interaction between specific individual users beyond just following each other, Digging each others' posts and occasionally commenting on the same article? An expanded profile and a private message feature could go a long way. Right now, I feel kind of lonely and unconnected when I browse Digg.
tredubzeddNov 23, 2010
This is the key--the point that neither Digg nor the publishers are getting.
Digg was never (to me) about reading the latest submissions from the big publishers. It was about finding content that I wouldn't otherwise guess would be interesting to me--because somebody else (a real person; usually several real people) found it to be interesting, first.
This is why the Front Page was a success in V3...and why it's an utter failure in V4.

You are delusional. the last version was no different. Honestly...answer me this question...do you NOT realize why people like badwithcomputer, babyman, badqat, etc submit their crap? It is because they are PAID to do so. Publiushers have been running Digg for YEARS. Now they just don't always have to use a middleman.
And do you really think that things made it to the front page because regular users saw the submission, clicked on it, and then decided it was worthy of a digg? If so, you are woefully naive. Most from page submission get like 90% of their pre-front page diggs from people who haven't even looked at the TITLE, let alone read the article. Circlejerkers look only at the submitter before dutifully digging it, in the hopes that the submitter will reciporicate with THEIR crap.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
bigtime2Nov 24, 2010
Dude, are you serious? MrBabyMan, badqt, badwithcomputer, etc. all had submitted some quality content. Even though they may have just ripped it off redit/fark/4chan/anywhere else, majority of people never would have found it had it not been for MrBabyMan, badqat, badwithcomputer?
They may have been power users, but they were submitting quality content for the most part.
mudrummer012Nov 23, 2010
Very much this.
I dont need digg to show me the headlines, thats what google reader is for.
Find me new and interesting things that I dont already know about.
cdurukNov 23, 2010
I think some of the stuff we have in the pipeline will solve some of those issues.
TomHanks4Nov 23, 2010
please forget about adding features until one can actually use digg 4 for 10 minutes without "breaking an axle", being told a user doesn't exist who obviously does, or simply failing to load a page with no reason.
bigtime2Nov 24, 2010
I'm sure they're working on that as well. I don't get as many error messages as I used to in the beginning.
TomHanks4Nov 24, 2010
my point is that when your site is failing on a regular basis, you should be working on nothing other than correcting the failures. any time spent doing anything else is misspent, in my opinion. Adding new features on top of a broken foundation is not wise.
bigtime2Nov 24, 2010
I agree with you there. I just think that they're working on both issues, however not on errors as much as they should be.
silentspyderNov 23, 2010
I think the problem with making it too social is that large groups can dominate. I know Digg wants to be social but I just think of it as a news site. Maybe I'm just using it wrong or feeding into my antisocial tendencies.

yeah..it is keeping you from the unemployment line...if only for a few more weeks.
But even the most optimistic (delusional) Digg employee must know enough to have their resumes updated and as fudged as possible at this point. You KNOW investors will never drop another penny down the digg hole. So when what you have runs out, that is it since you are not profitable.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

wow, you're really awesome
dannyhirtlerNov 23, 2010
Sounds about right...
ryobiguyNov 23, 2010
Dear publishers: YOU SUCK if you have popup ads, have a slideshow instead of a scrollable page, or use the phrase "after the jump."
platypus3333Nov 23, 2010
No, Digg is dead because people (i) came for the promise of community driven story promotion and (ii) resent having stories fed to them by interested parties.
randersonttNov 23, 2010
bingo! I always felt that the content that made it to the top was controlled by social or commercial cabals.
jameslowellNov 23, 2010
The real point: Even when I knew the frontpage in v3 was gamed, at least it was gamed with interesting stuff. Even if you're an awesome publisher with thousands of fans, and even if you engage the community, NOBODY WILL READ YOUR s**t IF IT SUCKS. At least the people who had a vested interest (and the time to kill in gaming the front page) tailored their content to suit the community.
anthstaf56Nov 23, 2010
You obviously do not know how to read a chart because Digg is still slowly dying http://stock.ly/1udsap NIce try though, you thought you fooled us ;-)

Digg still holding it down
linksusNov 23, 2010
Well something must be wrong. What happened to comments with hundreds of diggs. Not seen many with more than 20
marcellpurhamNov 23, 2010
Im loving the new Digg! The chance for people to follow you is much better then getting traffic from people who will just visit your site once. I want my visitors to become subscribers and normal users of my website
randersonttNov 23, 2010
I can tell that Digg is sufferring when a high percentage of the content are "Top x" lists - the lowest form of content. Top ten pics of this. Top pics of so-and-so's breasts. Top superhero quotes, etc. Totally lame filler material and a sure sign of Digg in distress.
alangfNov 24, 2010
well, digg v4 sucks, i just come here occasionally to chek some frontpage bits from my feed.
when v4 started i moved to reddit and i don't regret it. now all digg front pages are "funny pics", publisher's advertisement or spam, which is miles from what v3 was.
djordjevicbojanNov 24, 2010
haha, this is awesome headline, gonna read it now...

Digg Rocks!
JosephBencharskNov 24, 2010
Well I'm glad they brought out the crash cart and gave Digg a jolt. A lot of lost ground to cover though!
johnlearyiiiNov 25, 2010
I gotta agree with with zetadog - "you get what you give" .... I used digg as just a bookmark for my blog posts for a year and really had NO idea of all the cool cats that submit and comment on digg...now that I take the time to read and comment for a whole 5-10 minutes/day, a new world has opened up. Why bother with any news media when you can digg?
MBSmagazine_comNov 25, 2010
Oh, I didn´t realize its dead, damn I´m allway the last one to find things out :-)
how the hell do I change my strange Profilename this one up there with apps22.........
