As if we needed another reason to hate Comcast.
bobosmitorNov 29, 2010
Is this related to wikileaks somehow?
davidtcNov 30, 2010
Want another?
http://digg.com/news/business/comcast_starts_toll_booth_for_certain_web_content
Comcast has set up an Internet “toll booth,” charging Level 3 Communications Inc. whenever customers request content from them. They are a middleman for Netflix, so each time someone wants to watch a streaming show through Netflix, Comcast is charging them extra money for it.
Getting closer to this

I'm no fan, but do you hate every site that suffers downtime?.
davidtcNov 30, 2010
I do. Especially when I am trying to buy something. Like right now during the wootoff.
dauntless1Nov 30, 2010
No, only the ones who took government money in the 90's to upgrade to an all fiber infrastructure, then pocketed the money and built NOTHING, and are now complaining that the only way they can afford to build their infrastructure is to implement a form of "metered internet".
deafbeatNov 29, 2010
it sucks.
cybersaurNov 29, 2010
Comcast refers to Internet outages as "bandwidth management" and blames their customers.
scecilioNov 30, 2010
Yeah I was kinda pissed off last night.
bowwowbillNov 30, 2010
Comcast is a horrible company. They dont care
woollymittensNov 30, 2010
They'll blame it all on bit torrent and demand more money and censorship rights.
PulpenglishNov 30, 2010
There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern... a virus. Comcast is a disease, a cancer on this planet, you are a plague, and we... are the cure.
TomHanks4Nov 30, 2010
it was just their DNS servers that went down. I am on Comcast / east coast and didn't even notice. Yet another reason to consider alternative DNS servers instead of your ISPs. (and no, I do not mean OpenDNS.. never trust a company that makes their money by manipulating your DNS)
eyecomeanonNov 30, 2010
I was one of those comcast customers that was effected and it pissed me off something fierce. I'm only a beginner techie but even I could tell it was their DNS servers when I was able to get to a site by typing in the IP, but couldn't resolve names. I'll have to keep a list of alternative DNS servers on hand for bulls**t like this in the future.
I just can't believe it took those lunkheads hours to fix the problem. Why couldn't they just temporarily push out a change to their DNS servers to back-up ones or alternatives? Jeez.
TomHanks4Nov 30, 2010
just remember 8.8.8.8
it's google, works fine in a pinch although maybe not the fastest for everyday use.
pushing out new dns servers via dhcp has consequences, it may have not been a good solution in this case, don't know enough about what happened to tell.
jackusageDec 1, 2010
Ha I don't have Comcast anymore, U-Verse baby!
tmcdiggDec 5, 2010
Solution? unsubscribe, get another provider pronto!
Make them PAY for what they've done (over the years)....
