Why I am not too surprised? :(

In other words, they don't really know when the attacks began. Disturbing to say the least.

I really like the name of the attacks, "night dragon" - makes it sounds soo cool and ninja like

These Chinese hackers are no joke. While our best and brightest are cracking cell phones, drm and gaming consoles the Chinese are working for the government.
ieatskunkFeb 11, 2011
This is why China can never be number one. All they do is steal other people's ideas and technology. You can cheat your way up the ladder, but you can't be on top.
akufenFeb 13, 2011
Your comment suggest that there is something like a 'number one'. And well, when someone suggests such a thing, it usually points to the US. Which makes me wonder, do you really believe that's how the US got to the top? By playing fair?

Like I said, war with China is inevitable. They are collating data on our weaknesses now, so that when they reach military parity with us, they'll launch a MASSIVE cyber attack against us to cripple us at home while they simultaneously mobilize against their competitors (Taiwan, Japan, South Korea).
This WILL happen. If China didn't have malicious intentions, they wouldn't be conducting these attacks/tests.
We ought to go to war with them now while we know we can win. It will save millions of lives in the future.

"Every thinking person fears nuclear war and every technological nation plans for it. Everyone knows it's madness, and every country has an excuse."
"We have heard the rationales offered by the nuclear superpowers. We know who speaks for the nations. But who speaks for the human species? Who speaks for Earth?"
- Carl Sagan

What do meaningless quotes have to do with the Chinese threat?
xtomtomxFeb 11, 2011
Just food for thought:
If China goes to war with ANYONE, esp. The U.S., who will they then sell to?
Go to war with America, and they can kiss almost all their friendly trade agreements with pretty much EVERYONE goodbye. Ergo, no more revenue for China, or at least VERY much reduced.
China's growth is inflationary and built upon an undervalued currency which is going to burst. THAT WILL HAPPEN. And what will be the result?
Same as it is in America, recession. And who wins? The same folks who caused and profited from the American recession: The bankers and brokers.
There will be no war with China, regardless of how badly you wish to see it happen because you are bored.
You know why America thinks that everything negative China says is a prelude to war?
Because you are jealous that another country who ISN'T America is rising.
That frightens you, that there might someday be a country that when you stick your nose in business that does not concern you, they tell you to f**k off, and American ingrained superiority just cannot handle that concept.
That is why the default response for most Americans is "war." That's how far gone your egos are.
And this hacking thing? It's corporate espionage, most likely sponsored by either super wealthy businesses or organized crime, or both. And in China, that pretty much means the Government.
So I ask you. What's the difference between what America does to other nations as we speak, and what some unscrupulous people in China are doing to you?
ackthecatFeb 12, 2011
I can't say I completely disagree with this sentiment, tomtom, as sad as it is. And what's more, after all the wonderful information that Wikileaks has shown us, why should we assume that our own (U.S.) government isn't doing the exact same thing. You have been Dugg up, as much as I regret having to do so.

Does anyone remember Shang Tsung from Mortal Kombat?
! IT HHAASS BEGGUNNN !!!
Seriously though, there is antagonism between the different sovereign states, and neither can do anything about it because the multinational interests have woven world trade in such a way it would kill us all. So they have us, literally, by the balls. Not the Chinese though. The corporate forces that threaten to outsource jobs or sends small fractions of the fruits of the peoples labor to buy off elected politicians.
The continued hacking and wikileaks cables show that our governments are like out of control brats, and that the people should demand transparency so as to reign in these unacceptable actions. It is no longer okay to use the peoples tax dollars to support dictators, or continue war.
Why would China take any other course of action if the US is only doing the same?
acetatedFeb 11, 2011
I really hope the governments of China and the USA don't drag the world into nuclear war at some point. Fallout would be a lot less charming without the pseudo-futuristic 1950's vibe. :(

Our Internet routers need to be secured and important places need to have closed networks for their primary systems and technology. Not having Internet access is the only way to keep those systems, secrets, & technology safe.
If someone can't live without Facebook they can use their smart phone on their break.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
xtomtomxFeb 11, 2011
The networks that were broken into were secured, and very well.
Hacking isn't always about brute force. Most of the time it's simple social engineering. A Network Engineer worth his/her salt will tell you that a completely isolated network isn't of much use.
You can harden your networks, but it really boils down to the operating procedures of the users and managers of that network which determine it's relative security.

I'm well aware of that, according to studies I've read a large percent of employees would trade their passwords for candy bars.
I've been on closed networks and they are a large pia. But we didn't have trouble with hacks, it was only what people brought in on discs/USB that we had to watch for so those were limited on people's accounts as well.
The easy way my one professor had set up on our closed test network. He had the server wired to the Internet though a Linux box that he kept powered off except when he needed. He would yank the power cord after it was powered down to make sure there were no mishaps or cheating.

Why does it have to be "CHINESE" hackers? Why can;t it be just hackers? f**king predigest scum!
350zedFeb 13, 2011
Are they predigesting the scum because the scum would be too hard to digest otherwise?
sonickid101Feb 12, 2011
If there was a clash of the hacker titans I'd wanna see it would be Anonymous VS Chinese hackers
