In my mind, blogging's been dead for years. Not because of Facebook or Twitter, but because most people who set up a blog with the best of intentions find that its a lot of work to stick to a regular writing schedule. And the majority of those that do find that there's very few people reading their stuff. A lot of people set up blogging accounts; few stuck with it.
The only reason to blog, IMO, is for the Google benefit you get from having a larger site and regular, keyword-rich content added.

The only reason to blog, IMO, is for the Google ad revenue. However, as a lot of bloggers quickly discovered, this only works if you actually have something interesting to say that keeps people coming back for more ... and occasionally clicking on an ad.
Otherwise, it's pretty dead. Just because you bother to say it doesn't mean that people are just waiting to hear it.

Most people who "blog" just use it as a pic dump. 99% of the tumbr domains on digg are just ripping images directly from the FP of reddit and resubmitting them to digg. Copy paste anything here http://digg.com/search?q=site:iownimages.tumblr.com&sort=newest into the reddit search and you will find the same image submitted a day earlier.

Pronouncing things dead is dead.
negativeoneFeb 23, 2011
Agreed, pretty tired of this form of sensationalist headline. Microsoft, the desktop computer, and the Internet are all "dead" at this point. Strange that I use them each every day. Declare anything like this dead and you might as well do the same for your journalistic credibility.

Does this mean an end to Novenator?
anomaly100Feb 24, 2011
Your obsession with Novenator is outrageously funny.
conservative_zombieFeb 24, 2011
Outrageously? More likely moderately.
anomaly100Feb 24, 2011
You admit being obsessed and obsession by the way, is not 'moderate' -- it's obsession.
conservative_zombieFeb 24, 2011
You obviously can't even read what you previously wrote. You said outrageously funny.
anomaly100Feb 24, 2011
You do make me LOL.
conservative_zombieFeb 24, 2011
In an outrageous manner? In a manner that makes you simulate the braying of a jackass?
You seem to be spending an inordinate amount of time defending the honor of Novenator. Is this something personal to you, an infatuation of some sort?

But what of Digg?!?
atomic1fireFeb 23, 2011
Like any business, Blogging requires effort.
Blogs are only profitable when you have eyeballs willing to see what you have to say.
Mystic_XFeb 23, 2011
It's more of a blog shake-out than the ever dramatic "death of blogging", people who have stuff to say and to regularly update will keep blogging, the people who just have snippets of text or blurry pictures of themselves to inflict on humanity will go to twitter or facebook instead, oh well...
rohitramaswamykumarFeb 24, 2011
Blogging is lame as f**k and stupid. Please help!
bluezhiftFeb 24, 2011
Yeah, blogging is just evolving along with the web. In a few years I imagine people will be thogging, posting their thoughts to the interwebs from implanted cell phones. Oh boy, I just cannot wait! LOL
ubutnutFeb 24, 2011
Is it my dementia or the world is in fact running backward, but if i'm not mistaken this entry was posted several weeks ago on digg? Or is it on slashdot?
New York Times website is powered by WordPress, which means a journo writing articles is merely a blogger. This dude is probably wanting his employer (NYT) to switch to another blogging platform.

I don't agree that blogging is dead, Many companies are purely focusing on blogging to keep in touch with their customer and there are lots of blogger who blog on different items on daily basis.
On the other hand this updated and fresh content is food for search engine.
