Bulls**t. No one would go and admit such a stupid thing. They're trying to justify the buying of T-Mobile.

and 4g in the U.S in general is slower than Europe's and more costly.

AT&T has avoided servicing or expanding their hubs sites for many years now. The do everything to avoid it. Lease space, patch 15 year old sites with low dollar fixes and decommissioning hopeless sites. Notice dead spots or dropped calls in area where they did not exist before? That's because the site that supported it was overloaded, under-cooled or the roof that needed repair 10 years years ago finally let water leak onto the routers. They recently touted new tech that would let them place antenna on the sides of buildings instead of towers. This would be great but they still need to connect to a hub for the fiber back-haul. More and more they are relying on your cable company or competitors for back haul. They have gotten to the point where all they are managing is paper. This is the cheapest route to high stock prices and is the only motivating factor left to them. Buying another company is the only hope they have. They will expand their coverage (short term,) close down crumbling hubs and blame any losses on 'one time costs' related to the merger. The stock price will edge up a few points and those at the top will cash in and retire before the other shoe drops. The other shoe being an overall reduction in coverage and competition for the consumer. This is what deregulation does.

So is its cell service...

Well, despite being quite popular, it appears that AT&T still has a lot of work to do on their network, especially if they want to beat Verizon.
mentolJun 4, 2011
And I'm not at all surprised. Verizon has one of the fastest and most reliable networks. They just need to work a bit more on coverage I guess.

Time for a acquisition I think!

Well.. that's a great thing for a CEO to say about his competition

>>> adding this to AT&T’s network will boost their presence in the 4G LTE marketplace.
...umm...someone should remind the "expert" that T-mo uses HSPA+ not LTE...

This is for data only:
I've been comparing data connectivity and speed between AT&T versus Verizon in the Bay Area and Southern California for a couple of months now and found that AT&T is significantly faster in many areas. AT&T has also patched a lot of dead zones very recently, making connectivity slightly better overall. Additionally, I'm finding better connectivity at crowded events like concerts.
The bottom line is that AT&T, at least in the Bay Area and Southern California, has made some huge improvements in terms of data, and I'd easily pick them over Verizon now.

There must not be 4G there... If you do any research at all into 4G you will find that regardless of what company is using it.. LTE is faster than the 4G that AT&T uses... right now LTE is much faster than anything else out there... regardless of the carrier.

There's not much real 4G anywhere. For me, I'm looking at practical every day expected speed and being able to connect. On AT&T, in most places, I'm able to get well over 2mbps which is fast enough for HD Netflix. Many places are much faster than that. Whereas on Verizon, I'm finding there are now more data dead zones than AT&T, and speeds tend to be 50-75% of AT&T.
This is much different from what I was experiencing just a year ago.
Voice is a different issue.
3G...4G...real 4G... it doesn't matter to me, and never did. What matters is can I connect and what's my speed when I do. I'd definitely pick AT&T for data right now over Verizon if I had to chose between the two.

What good is a 4G network if one of the hottest devices doesn't use it (iPhone)? iPhone on AT&T can do simultaneous voice/data NOW and if the next Verizon iPhone can't, I'm switching.
julikJun 4, 2011
It is so rare that I even need to use data and voice at the same time. Even the commercials show once a year circumstances.
Granted.. I really only use maybe 150 minutes a month of voice calls.
The only thing that would make me switch is if I could save a significant amount of money.
And the Verizon 4G network is very fast... We have a clear 4G modem set up at work hooked up to a wireless router.. the Verizon 4G LTE network is twice as fast as the clear 4G wimax network.

All those slow Iphones so sad.

I just read AT&T's 4G will be faster... http://blogs.barrons.com/techtraderdaily/2011/06/01/ts-iphone-advantage-hudson-sq-says-buy-dump-vz/
