Analyst Tony Cripps said he expected the temporary injunction to have a short-term effect on sales of the Galaxy 10.1 Tab, which is "set to be among the strongest threats to the iPad's current dominance of the tablet market".
^^^that is the reason.
macparrotAug 10, 2011
Considering that Samsung themselves pulled it from the Australian market rather than face similar actions there says much. Personally? I think Apple is taking the wrong approach, but I'm not their IP lawyer.
thetechfirmAug 10, 2011
why am I not surprised
zbeastAug 10, 2011
If apple hate's it, it's got to be good..
I guess my next pad will be a Galaxy Tab.
jameswyattAug 10, 2011
Think Different Indeed... Nope, sue them like everyone else does..
BritishThaiAug 10, 2011
Monopolies and Mergers Commission needs to step in here I think!
macparrotAug 10, 2011
Why would they step in? This is about IP law not whether or not Apple has some kind of monopoly on tablets (which they don't)
ganimanAug 10, 2011
How dare someone make a better tablet than an iPad... Steve, get the lawyers!
shinkouAug 10, 2011
Just forget the lawsuit. Can we buy it online, Samsung?
freethegadgetsAug 10, 2011
Someone needs to forward this link to Apple: http://www.thetherapylounge.com/hypnotherapy/overcome-jealousy

Dear Apple: You'll never be #1 by trying to stop your competition from producing their own products. Design YOUR products better and SELL them at better prices.
You still won't be #1, but it'll help.
znicketAug 11, 2011
Eh... they are #1, they are designing better products and they are selling them at better prices.
Not sure what your point was.
perlgoodiesAug 11, 2011
Who are they number 1 to again? And since when were their prices competitive with the rest of the world?
You may argue their products are better but you can't argue price and their place in the marketplace. They are bullies and love attacking their competitors and besides the group that loves all that is Apple, they don't have much respect from the rest of the population. You either love Apple or you hate them. It's rare you see someone say they are indiferrent about the company.
znicketAug 11, 2011
Ah, most of the population don't care. Geeks like to get their panties in a bunch about trivial things but ordinary people can't even spell Samsung or Galaxy or what not. Ipod they know.
Apple just eclipsed Exxon in Market Cap (temporarily) - gotta count for something. If that is not being nr. 1 in the tech market... well, what you want? High profits? They have that. Quality Products?... they have that.
isa9191Aug 10, 2011
All this story convinced me was, that I should really look into the Galaxy Tab as my next purchase.
znicketAug 11, 2011
Why? There was nothing in the story about the qualities of Galaxy Tab.
isa9191Aug 11, 2011
true... and I know nothing about its qualities either. But they brought an injunction because they thought it might be a competitor. So why not? Besides... having an iphone is more than enough apple products for me.
znicketAug 11, 2011
well.. there is competition and there is competition. Apple obviously felt that Samsung overstepped the mark between imitating/blatantly copying and apparently EU agrees (at least temporarily). No reason for that to irritate the average customer.
Like somebody said, all e-readers are not alike, why should we accept that all tablets have to look identical to the iPad?
isa9191Aug 11, 2011
They all do it, lawsuits that is. Samsung, motorola, apple, HTC... What I'm looking for is alternatives. I don't have to buy from one brand just because its more aesthetically pleasing. Personally I'm a bit tired of the compatibility issues the iPhone has with my PC... and im pretty sure those same problems would crop up with an ipad too.
stockexAug 10, 2011
galaxy must really be a threat to Apple's iPad
mrsurfboardAug 11, 2011
Apple is doing the world a favor. Samsuck makes the worst Android products on earth.
thetechfirmAug 11, 2011
wow, I guess its pretty well official, this may work out to be Galaxy's best advertising strategy.
john_in_scunnyAug 10, 2011
Blimey somebody in Samsung really messed up
jazzbeauxAug 10, 2011
Once again, Crapple shows itself for the massive collection of scumbags that people with more than half-a-brain know them to be....
ricksiteAug 10, 2011
If you aren't in the know, Samsung started this mess:

I think things kinda backfired on them.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
macparrotAug 10, 2011
I think we're past the he said, she said portion of these lawsuits. It's all a game that IP lawyers are getting rich off of.
wolfghostAug 10, 2011
Nope. Apple shot first on April 15, 2011. Your link references two of Samsung's responses.
greedoeAug 11, 2011
Can we apply for an injunction against IOS5 and all the stuff they ripped off from Android?
codemonkeygAug 10, 2011
Paranoid much?
indurenAug 10, 2011
Does this apply to Britain as well? If so at least the looters won't be able to get their hands on them.
stealthspcAug 10, 2011
Samsung is in hot water because they're using Apple patented technology in their products and aren't paying licensing fees. The public isn't usually aware of this, but most of your electronic devices have tons of licensing fees baked in. The iPad has many patent fees paid to Samsung. This backfired for them and now their product is blocked from import. When you play with fire you're bound to get burned.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
ganimanAug 10, 2011
This is yet to be determined, and the patents which may or may not be infringed upon may be invalid themselves. What it all comes down to is the patent office needs reform.
stealthspcAug 10, 2011
An injunction is only issued if there's a good chance they are infringing patents.
commodusAug 10, 2011
I agree with the motivations people are citing, but don't think Samsung is the innocent lamb being preyed on by mean ol' Apple.
Samsung unveiled one version of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in February and then completely redesigned it to look a lot more like the iPad 2 after Apple's unveiling in early March. That's copying, even if there are some differences.
Heck, Samsung even said "we will not be outdone" by Apple just a few days after the iPad 2 was made public. Bit of a smoking gun, folks.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
