We will not be able to sell our products in China. It is not in China's plan. They will continue to make ours but they will steal our technology and just sell to their own. This is how they have always done it and they always will.
johnnysoftwareFeb 23, 2012
Look up "gunboat diplomacy" in your history text books from school.
icwydFeb 23, 2012
Don't have to. Was involved with the Chinese over 20 years ago. Did not go well for the company. The plan was to sell to them and it never worked out. Some of my designs are still used there today. Still not happy about working with communists but that's what you do.
I have seen this repeated over and over again. Seems they will never learn.

The perfect catalyst to bring manufacturing out of China.

China does not look like an even playing field now.

craig1958Feb 22, 2012
What type of computer are you currently using; where was it made?
johnnysoftwareFeb 22, 2012
Apparently, it is made out of wood and he made it himself.
macparrotFeb 22, 2012
Really? Do you ever wear sneakers? Or pants/shirts/socks and so on? If they were made in China they were probably made by very low paid workers. Meanwhile who else besides Apple is pushing for any kind of reform or is opening up their contractors for 3rd party inspectors? Anyone?
Just how high up is that horse you're riding? Guess it's too high too smell your own bulls**t
tuppe666Feb 23, 2012
I would rather you post a list of ethical list of companies of which there are many especially for clothing. Than spend an inordinate amount of time defending a company that is clearly in the wrong. There are lists all over the internet.
macparrotFeb 23, 2012
Which is why I said "if" they were made in China. Where was your (or johnmiller11) computer made? Where were the parts for it from? You duck that question every time I ask tuppey. I'm not defending Apple, I'm asking is there any other companies in the same business as they are in China that are even doing the small amount that Apple does with their 3rd party contractors? Please enlighten us or STFU
tuppe666Feb 23, 2012
No your straight up defending Apples Actions.
Seriously Google withdrew from China for ethical reasons.
I keep posting stuff you keep ignoring it. Boycott Apple
macparrotFeb 23, 2012
You're welcome to think so, but unless you are willing to back up your words with action then you're a hypocrite and really a bit of a douchebag. Boycotting Apple does nothing if the stuff you use is made in worse conditions.
You just won't answer the question because you KNOW it's true.So keep putting in post after post on the same subject with your foot so firmly implanted in your mouthComment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Psssst You're arguing with someone who calls themself 'macparrot'.
Just incase you didn't realize...
caseycooldFeb 22, 2012
bahahaha, how does that feel, Apple?
rothgarrFeb 23, 2012
I assume Apple is feeling pretty good considering they won a case in Shanghai yesterday: http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Chinese-court-says-Apple-sell-rb-1518628437.htmlComment is buried, click here to see the rest.

"Proview wants to ban imports" I would feel bad for apple if they were freaking made in the US
penglustFeb 22, 2012
Then you are an idiot. It would only cut minimally into the excessive amounts of profit they make and would contribute to our economy.
asfinktersezwutFeb 22, 2012
Reread his post; inserting the proper punctuation and/or sentence structure in your mind while you read it.
craig1958Feb 22, 2012
They don't want to ban anything, they are just looking for a payday. Apple originally bought the name from one of their subsidiaries for the cost of a used BMW, now they are claiming that the subsidiary did not have the authority to make the sale and are asking for a large pile of cash. Eventually they will settle for a smaller pile of cash. Apple will make them work for it; they want to discourage future international patent trolls. Just the usual patent nonsense.
tuppe666Feb 22, 2012
Its not about "patents" its about "trademarks". They paid £10 about the same as two packets of cigarettes. They actively produce a product called the iPad. So many things wrong in such a small post.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
craig1958Feb 22, 2012
You are correct, it is a trademark dispute.
As I recall, they paid something like $50k US for the name; but it does't really matter, it was a trivial amount of money. The point is that Proview simply wants to be paid off, they will eventually be paid to go away, it's just a matter of how much and how soon.
tuppe666Feb 22, 2012
Then you would be wrong. They paid £10($16) IP Application Development Limited.
Please check your facts before trying to correct someone.
macparrotFeb 22, 2012
Here's a link from MSN (hardly an Apple mouthpiece). Apple paid about $55K

craig1958Feb 23, 2012
It really doesn't matter who has the correct price; they thought the bought it from a company that had the legal authority to sell it for a very small amount of money. It now appears that the seller may not of have that authority. At some point, a check will be written and this will be resolved. Stuff like this happens every day, why is this a controversy?
macparrotFeb 22, 2012
They do not actively produce anything. Their iPad was an iMac knockoff ten years ago that nobody wanted then and nobody wants now.
tuppe666Feb 23, 2012
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/02/07/proview_shenzhen_demands_apple_apology/
"As is often the case in international trademark matters, the case is a convoluted one. According to Xie, Proview Shenzhen registered the iPad trademark in 2001. An associated company, Proview Taiwan, sold the trademark to a UK company, IP Application Development Limited, in 2009 for £35,000 ($55,000), according to Guangdong's Nanfang Daily.
That UK company – which was founded right before the sale and is now listed by Level Business as a "dormant company" – then turned around and sold the iPad trademark to Apple for the princely sum of £10 ($16)."
The price quoted it the amount Proview Taiwan Sold the trademark for. Not what they bought it for.
Seriously though I really think you should put some time and effort. Your posts are seriously missinformed.
macparrotFeb 23, 2012
So according to Xie who is Proview's lawyer. Tell me if I quoted a lawyer from Apple how much stock would you put on it? Proview received about $55k for the rights to a name that Proview hadn't used in 9-10 years, which is what the argument is really about. What Apple may or may not have paid is immaterial.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
craig1958Feb 22, 2012
This is very silly, at some point they will just decide to write a check; they only question is how many zeros will be on the check. This is just a game of chicken.
tuppe666Feb 22, 2012
Any other company would pay off Proview...Change its name for the short term or get a better name. The only thing is Apple has become all about marketing/Brand.
craig1958Feb 22, 2012
They won't change the name, they will just have to take a little money out of the office coffee fund and write a check.
johnnysoftwareFeb 23, 2012
If I was them, I would change the name, then stare at ProView while a dry desiccating economic wind just happened to mummify the company and all of its sister companies.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
macparrotFeb 23, 2012
And they would only have to change the name for China which is all that Proview can "claim" Apple doesn't have the rights to.
johnnysoftwareFeb 23, 2012
Oh, of course, I didn't mean to imply they should change the name outside of China; just in China. ProView only had say over Hong Kong / China, and claims to have only sold half its rights -- the Hong Kong portion -- to Apple.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
johnnysoftwareFeb 23, 2012
No company would pay Proview twice and besides the amount Proview is demanding for this second payment is $1.5 billion which is insane.
craig1958Feb 23, 2012
Obviously they won't see $1.5 billion, but at some point the negotiated amount will be less than the legal fees, aggravation, and lost revenue. I assume they will eventually get a few million, and a bunch of lawyers will all get paid. Cost of doing business in that part of the world.
