That is what Anonymous does, just look at the war over boxxy.

It's wrong to assume anons were ever really organized in a classical sense to begin with. Trying to say they're 'splintering' is rather stupid considering any organizing on anon's behalf is like binding broken glass together with string. It might work of you're lucky and careful but only for so long and then it's back to chaos again with the first hard jolt...

Great comment
People who defend Anonymous and say there's no way they were behind the PSN hack are ridiculous - Anonymous can't even account for or control itself, how they can expect people to accept their claim that they didn't do it is beyond me. People who speak for Anonymous speak only for themselves, there is no way to verify their claims or confirm that they actually speak for the entire group.

I'm trying to see this issue through the eyes of a corporation like Sony.
It's easy enough to say that they're too stupid to understand the decentralized nature of the threat, but you need to consider the possibility that they understand exactly who and what they're dealing with.
If your assumption is that Sony cannot act directly against Anons then you're probably correct, but if Sony finds just one Anon who has some influence and waves some money - then you might start to see some things.
The problem as I see it is that Anonymous can never be completely shapeless. There will always be voices that are louder than others and there's no way to communicate without leaving trails.

This isn't particularly new. Since 2007 there has been massive infighting between image boards and anon-associated IRC servers. Hell, the IRC network that did much of early Chanology disappeared entirely in early 2009. This is par for the course -- if anything, AnonOps lasted abnormally long. The life expectancy for these networks is usually about 6 months at most.

anon civil war? this isn't the first one. Thanks new-media for "reporting" on the things we already knew. But, it's okay because it's new to you. Not really, though.
