cmu.edu — Twitter users say only a little more than a third of the tweets they receive are worthwhile. Other tweets are either so-so or, in one out of four cases, not worth reading at all. This is according to a recent new study by researchers at Carnegie Mellon University, MIT and Georgia Tech.

Only a quarter?
I would've put that figure well over 50%.
sportpagemailFeb 2, 2012
For my part I thought it was way more than 50%
mtownFeb 2, 2012
I'd put it at at least 90%.
brucealmightyFeb 1, 2012
I would have expected it to be the reverse....3 quarters or more are worthless....at least to anyone who actually has a life....
Graf_OrlockFeb 1, 2012
Minimum 3/4s
biofriendlyblogFeb 1, 2012
That's a good question...who gives a tweet? ;)
sportpagemailFeb 2, 2012
haha! Nice one!

hell al they had to do was find plaxico buress' twitter account and that would have told them that 90% of tweets are worthless.
concusionFeb 1, 2012
exactly, 1 out of 4 seems too low.
paintballer747Feb 2, 2012
And in other news, the sky is blue!
cave_dweller32Feb 2, 2012
A quarter of the internet is worthless*
user2837Feb 2, 2012
I am still trying to figure out how that site seems to do so well.
akronFeb 2, 2012
I haven't logged into Twitter for months now, yet I still get emails that people are following me. Why? I say nothing, and that's worth following?
sportpagemailFeb 2, 2012
Really? That's not a surprise for me!
RaffeeqFeb 1, 2012
this is interesting
vyzionsbossladyFeb 1, 2012
especially when you tweet like every minute. some are following so many that that ONE tweet thats important gets lost in all the .....ahem....BS
talkingptsmemoFeb 1, 2012
Certainly hope not ours
GoldiedustFeb 1, 2012
Surprised it is that low.
certaprohocomdFeb 2, 2012
I believe so, most tweets are really worthless, but that's what twitter is about, sharing to your followers of what you've been up to. Some also uses it as marketing, sharing great contents globally without considered as spamming.
hiropendragonFeb 2, 2012
In other, amazing news, 75% of tweets AREN'T worthless. That's pretty amazing.
wilhoitmFeb 2, 2012
A quarter of research studies are useless.
kijo524Feb 2, 2012
I would say 95% are worthless
phantomlorenz267Feb 2, 2012
A quarter of university researches are worthless, I tweeted
seriously, it does not take a Sherlock Holmes to know that 99% of tweets are crap
gkiltzFeb 2, 2012
Only a quarter??
zeedeoFeb 2, 2012
really? it took universities and people with all these degree to figure that out?
igorunchainedFeb 2, 2012
NOW...poll the same Twitter users how many of THEIR tweets are worthless....I bet the number is (ironically) different.
That is the disconnect that makes society what it is. My tweets are worthwhile, most of yours arent. My problems are huge, yours are trivial. You kill our private contractors and burn their corpses...you are animals, we kill your "private contractors" and piss on them, we are heroes. My s**t is stuff....your stuff is s**t.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
meccaydnaFeb 2, 2012
IMO people that think their own tweets being worthwhile doesn't make them any less disillusioned about it. I don't use twitter because I already know my tweets would be worthless. No delusion there.
Donuts4UFeb 2, 2012
Strange reversal. I thought it had to be TheOnion.
KendallPlumbingFeb 1, 2012
Still think it is more AND how much $ was spent to find this out? ...something is not right
