"First, we take all the features you don't like about Twitter, then we add them to Digg without fixing any of the old problems." - New Digg
philbertAug 20, 2010
Actually I will have to say it's extremely fast, though that may be because it's on another server with fewer users.
smurfzAug 19, 2010
I like old Digg but the new Digg might turn out pretty well. Just have to wait and see what the future holds!
antdudeAug 20, 2010
Have you tried the new one? It's awful. :(
If they use it, then I am taking my business elsewhere!
philbertAug 20, 2010
Agreed I've had access to the new Digg for a few weeks now and I never use it. In it's current state it's terrible.
antdudeAug 20, 2010
I was looking at it a couple days ago and hoping for improvements, but it still sucked. Ugh! Bad move, Digg. Fix it please before we bail out.

yesterday i got an email fro digg admin and sent me new digg links, i logged in and found it sadly confusing.
most sad that i couldn't find history of comments which i added more than 900 comments during 2 years on digg.
meanwhile the feature is childish and boring.
i hope they don't change it to new one otherwise digg would be boring for me.
bonesehAug 20, 2010
I just hope the new digg doesn't kick all the little guys out
bjornskiAug 20, 2010
They won't kick them out, you just won't know they exist at all.
robdiggityAug 20, 2010
Pretty sure they'll just leave. It'll just be a bunch of mainstream media empires subscribing to each other's RSS feeds.
scotsworth788Aug 20, 2010
What was wrong with the old digg?
mrquackerAug 20, 2010
It had a few holes like power users and bury brigades.

while i was 7 years old, my father bought me a remote control car, it was very strong and unbreakable.
for 2 years i played with it, finally one day i opened it and took all engine and things apart but could never
re-install them back.
while my father asked me: what was wrong with your car that made you open it?
i said, for 2 years it worked very well, i wondered how it is made that it never breaks down......Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
philbertAug 20, 2010
It's extremely slow for one thing, it's also rather buggy at times.
carlosabsAug 20, 2010
profit
ahsandilshadAug 20, 2010
is any difference in new and old digg?
bjornskiAug 20, 2010
The new one sucks balls.
thefirewireAug 20, 2010
yeah functionality
spazattack5000Aug 20, 2010
I hate new Digg. Still some kinks to be worked out but so far I really haven't liked the interface and gave up on it after a couple of weeks.
philbertAug 20, 2010
I'm surprised you lasted that long.
x9002Aug 20, 2010
I gave up on my third use
animan351Aug 20, 2010
So digg has sold out completely and instead of things reaching front pages because individuals found them interesting(ruined by people like babyman) it will now shift to whatever web sites are normally the most popular and will therefore sell ad space to them, thus lining pockets further.
jdenzerAug 20, 2010
So in order to read front page news on the new Digg, I am going to have to be obsessed with adding new friends, tweeting, adding pics, etc like Twitter and Facebook?
Closed AccountAug 20, 2010
sure ! and you get lots of emails that some people are following you and you are following other ones....
i come digg to read things not to follow some idiots like twitter and face-book.
philbertAug 20, 2010
No, you just click the Top News button at the top pf the page.

I dont think I'm going to like this....
fxu1989Aug 20, 2010
So I checked out the new digg... didn't like it.
I wish they would just keep it as is. Following specific "sources"? What happened to the news "aggregator" part of the site? Tried twitter, didn't like it, shame that Digg is trying to copy it.
Keep being greedy on trying to get new visitors and you'll lose the old ones. No need to reinvent yourself every year. Adding a few things to expand it, sure... but completely revamp the site? meh.
jdenzerAug 20, 2010
So is this going to fix that "Liberals control Digg" conspiracy theory. Seem like you won't be able to complain about Huffington Post, Slate, Maddow, etc. making front page, b/c you will have to follow them?Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

tbh this is going to screw the casual user. A lot of people don't come on digg to make friends. They have 15 minutes here and there and come to the front page looking for quality content. This new system revolves around your friend feed. Sites like cracked, CNN, and APOD will still be on the front page daily due to all of their followers.
If you want the casual digger to become more active just drop maximum diggs per day down to like 50. This would give stories from new users way more exposure than they have now.
Also right now the algorithm doesn't take page views in to account and it should. If I am a new digg user and I sub a good story, then I share that story with non-Digg users and it ends up going popular in my crowd of friends, it might get something like 2k views and only 20 diggs. Why even have tweet and FB buttons on the digg bar if the user won't get credit for sharing them?
IMO if a story is generating lots of hits from non-digg users it should be popular. I see awesome stories get 350 diggs and 2k views and they will never see the front page. Then I turn around and see something hit the front page with 50 diggs and 55 views. That doesn't make much sense.
New digg = destruction of casual user.
Also, I know a lot of people think that this will kill the "power users" - it won't. I have 2654 followers. CNN.com has 1730. Guess whose account will get more Diggs? But 1730 is hell of a lot more than the average Joe has. Food for thought.
Also, don't get rid of the bury button FFS. I see single jpegs and gifs surrounded by 20 ads hit the FP daily. If it isn't imgr, photobucket, or a direct link, then 90% of the time it's scraped from reddit and uploaded to some s**t hole mommy blog. Bury the f**k out of those.
philbertAug 20, 2010
I mentioned to them the lack of a bury button for stories and they told me about the new button that replaced bury and only hides the story so you don't see it. When jay was around he said they were going to start really improving the bury button so that it worked more like it does in the comments, he said they really wanted users to bury stories they didn't like. Now it looks like they're going in the opposite direction.

I've tried the new Digg.
It's not good.
I was really open minded about it...even changed the address on my favorite bar so I won't attempt to go back to the old Digg, but after about a month or two, I realized that I'm not visiting Digg as I use to be...It was just not interesting anymore.
And I don't really know why.
Now I'm back on the old Digg and once again I find myself visiting, digging and commenting almost everyday.
Maybe the new Digg feels more lonely, maybe it's the lack of your comments (there are comments, but not THE comments that we all come back to read), and maybe its because they trying to make it like Facebook/Twitter and I don't really need another social network.
I've twitted my short opinion to Kevin Rose, but didn't get any response. I truly hope he will read our (not just mine) comments about the the new Digg and listen. If all of you will react to the new Digg like I did, Digg will just disappear.

Do you remember Google's "Don't be evil"? Now they are a true evil corp.
Same will happen to Digg.
Even good guys get corrupted.
m7levelsAug 20, 2010
I have been trying Digg for years now...It seems the same to me. It may have a nice new look but I have yet to understand how they rank and push stories up the line. Besides I'm still not convinced this (http://blogs.alternet.org/oleoleolson/2010/08/05/massive-censorship-of-digg-uncovered/) Is not still going on.
diggundergroundAug 20, 2010
Another excellent post from Neal! =)

really great post.. but i am gonna hate the new digg

I don't like the new digg, and if it isn't improved (and if it sucks), I'm probably going to just leave digg. It's not like removing an arm, I'll just play more video games. Although I will miss the aggregated news articles. And no, I will not go to reddit.
whipnetAug 20, 2010
I checked out the new digg, but it had the same pizza-faced, haven't actually had a job yet, left leaning bias as well. Bummer.

NO ONE LIKES THE NEW DIGG
(digg this comment if you intend to leave after the change)
someretardAug 20, 2010
American Diggers will just be told that they do like it, and presto, they will! Those who aren't sure can just be told it's un-American to not like it. This can be further explained in a way that links not liking it to "TERRORISM!™". Problem solved. <Bows>
youngcebAug 21, 2010
''Digg will become a viral marketing engine..''. sounds bad
