flickr.com — Slashdot is previewing a new system that allows users to vote for or against stories. It is suspiciously similar to digg.com The current beta is invite only so I have uploaded a screen shot to flickr for all to see. If you have a Slashdot account you can check http://slashdot.org/firehose.pl to see if you have access.

Actually it's my friends flickr stream (he has a pro account). That was not originally the next photo when the story was posted and the ass belongs to neither of us. At some point last night while my buddy was drunk he realized this story was on the front page and moved the ass picture as a joke on my friend. There is no real back story on the pic, bunch of friends at a cabin drinking copious amounts of booze, buddy decided to moon the dude with the SLR = bad idea.-Kap

No back story really. Drunk friend moons DSLR, gets ass picture on flickr, and subsequently gets dugg.-Kap

"Marked as inaccurate. Firehose is COMPLETELY different then digg. The firehose is a way for the Slashdot editors to have users rate the posts. Nothing is automatically posted to the front page without a editor."Absolutely. It really isn't much like digg. To me it has the appearance of the same old submission queue they've always had, just made visible to the public and with a user moderation system tacked on.Fairly obvious evolution of slashdot, if you ask me. Honestly, for anyone to suggest that such a logical and obvious progression of their software had to have been "copied" from anywhere is nuts.
