Drew Chinesefood, Alecb, nmffffd9...who the hell are these people? Just kidding. At least Alecb made it through his review without telling us what chick he wants to bone. All I can say is that if active diggers are confused and our general workflow is disrupted, there's going to be mayhem on the rollout.
blinker1315Jun 30, 2010
Drew Chinesefood has the best name on Digg. Hands down.
hackiewackieJun 30, 2010
This is Drew : http://digg.com/users/porkfriedrice - She rocks but the new digg doesn't..
ehudrosJun 30, 2010
I found it odd and unintuitive. It may be a positive change, but the way they present it to migrating users is very lacking...
Closed AccountJun 30, 2010
Still haven't had time to try it out properly I've only edit a few settings. too soon to conclude anything.
casspaJun 30, 2010
I'm just not very interested in what my friends are digging. I view them more as the best filters for finding content and submitting it. Thus, I'm only concerned with checking out their submissions, not what they're actually 'digging.'
bettverbotenJul 1, 2010
I agree!
This is a bad change!

I just hope either i can get used to it, or will be able to use the "old" version. I guess we'll see, hopefully they thought this through completely from our point of view.
tadjJun 30, 2010
I wasn't the biggest fan but we'll see I guess... for me the biggest draw of digg is the global frontpage where I can see what is hot in the world - I'm less interested in what my friends are digging...
onlyscJun 30, 2010
i'm testing the new digg out now. now would be a good time to start getting more involved in another site in case digg plummets. digg refugees on mixx anyone?
penelernJun 30, 2010
Mhm..I don't like the new version...it's so much like twitter...
smurfzJun 30, 2010
Kevin Rose why would you do this to us? =[

The only thing that Reddit could possibly have on Digg is that you can submit a story on Reddit and people will see it.

seriously where is the non-power user version of Digg.
I'd like that.

I like new version of digg. except that i cant see old stories. I am sure that will be sorted out soon. Otherwise its cool in my opinion.
shroomtimeJun 30, 2010
The new Digg is almost as functional as the Digg iPhone app.. which is not too functional at all.
nathanima1Jun 30, 2010
Tried to use the digg app and it was okay, except I could never read articles (kinda pointless) and no commenting.
Go shovel!
xaquaticsJun 30, 2010
I think the new Digg is fine. It is still alpha so I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out. I like the interface and I'm encouraged by the My News tab.
Closed AccountJun 30, 2010
The old saying of, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" comes to mind. I will be going back to *shudders slashdot if the new digg is as bad as it looks.
maxmwoodJun 30, 2010
I'll reserve judgement until my invite arrives, but I trust Digg.
So how about that invite?

"Yudi: They copied reddit, and now the new digg sucks."
No, they copied Twitter. Which has occupied no more than 2 minutes of my time. If they copied Reddit's algorithm and gave it the interface of Digg this would have been a **COMPLETE** winner. Digg fusing with Twitter just tips the balance even more in favor of Reddit.

(Digg is laying off staff and Reddit has been having constant issues with keeping up with the expanding activity)
Seriously Digg, kick the power users down, put everybody on the same level, and we'll all like you again promise!!!

Reddit is pretty good. I've only looked around but I like it.

It's funny that the top complaints are "I don't like auto-submit" and "There are no submitter names". This is just a small group of people who want a website to stroke their egos.
Time and time again, these highly active submitters will state that they just want to "promote good content". Well if that's the goal, it shouldn't matter who the submitter was in the new Digg v4. By simply digging a story, they are "submitting" it into the news feeds of every friend they have.
tl:dnr: the subset of users in the article have an agenda and need to adapt to a new, superior scheme for content promotion.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
magzineJul 1, 2010
While I partially agree, I have to ask - why did you guys make a decision to remove burying? Part of the whole Digg experience was also being able to vote down things that you didn't like - not so much because you didn't want to see them, but because you might not have agreed with it/it might have been inaccurate.
The only thing there is now is 'Report', which is giving me separation anxiety from my dearly beloved Bury button.

my favorite quote "They copied reddit, and now the new digg sucks."
phoenixtxJul 1, 2010
Damn. Obama is taking over Digg too.
bjornskiJul 1, 2010
Yeah if he got much more popular, he might almost be able to win an election for President or something!
Go crawl back under your rock.
phoenixtxJul 1, 2010
What's it like being an Obama sycophant and living in the past bjornski?

And Bjornski is also under the delusion that the Obama administration is really for neutrality in the Israel-Palestinian affair. In fact Obama is actually getting the US even more involved in the dangerous middle eastern quagmire.

I said that? Really? Where?

You'd sound a lot more intelligent with Dilbertos words in your mouth than the ones you pick for yourself you ignorant jackass.

bjornski,
I remember vividly about how you were looking forward to Obama being elected so that the US would stop supporting Israel and show real neutrality in the middle east.
maxell101Jul 1, 2010
bjornski: Are you sure it's a rock? I'm thinking it's something more with a stench. I don't like thug behavior on social sites. It stinks.

@maxell101 Thanks for defending for bjornski since he didn't have the balls to reply himself. In the meantime you should consider doing some reading yourself since liberalism is a sign of ignorance for someone as old as yourself.

The New Digg is now the format of Facebook, the comment format is like Propeller and Reddit.
It is not personal it is group think.
I don't want my friend's friend's submissions put in "My News" section to digg.
No popular stories designated.
You can't find your friends specific submissions to support them.
If Digg is dying...this is going to kill it.
This looks like an automated form of Digg to cut costs.
I can go to any news site and read stories and comment, Digg has/maybe had a unique edge of Front Page competition fun and interaction on submissions of like mindedness.
This new format kills all that.
This "New Digg" is quite a disappointment.
Looks & feels like bad news :(
gbudavidJul 1, 2010
I came on The Old Digg today and they had taken all my Mutual Friends away. I found some of you and re friended. The new doesn't impress me much I will give it a bit of time and then decide But right now I am leaning toward outta here.
I am on Mixx,Amplify, and Stumbleupon as gbudavid
bettverbotenJul 1, 2010
I hear you and if the new digg is implemented the way it is now
I will not be spending much time here either.
Nothing is broken what the hell are they trying to fix?
bille3Jul 1, 2010
First they limited the number of friends. Now the new digg. Going backwards with a fresh face painted on the back of their collective head.
cajungalJul 2, 2010
I got the invitation from Digg to try the New Digg and I clicked on the link and it just goes to old Digg. Is there something more that you have to do to see the new one? I am curious about it.

travislopesJul 1, 2010
The only thing good about the new Digg is the crazy fast loading times.
mediarightJul 1, 2010
It is a bit funny how so many people are so against change. I think it's a good move for digg. I know I trust my friends + tastemakers as to what to look at, so this is a good move for me.
Does the UI need refining...yeah, but it's an alpha, so big whoop. Give it some time folks. You'll get used to it.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
kinseyincanadaJul 1, 2010
I just got into the Alpha and it will take some time to get used to, dont really care about what my friends are digging.
cranelakeJul 1, 2010
It certainly looks a lot better and is very nice to play around with, but I can't find my stats nor can I find my old submissions and why have icons disappeared?
Plus I like to know who subbed a story, but now all stories seem to be anonymous. I can see the influence of Twitter and I'm not sure that's a good thing. If I want to hang out on Twitter I'll hang out on Twitter...for about 30 seconds. I can spend hours on Digg.
Still this is only version alpha, so hopefully some of these concerns will be addressed before it launches properly.
subatomicdocJul 1, 2010
I've been on Digg for two years, and it's become a staple in my news diet for two reasons: people compete to bring the news to me rapidly, and I see content I would otherwise never see because of Digg contributors.
I do think there is a bias toward power users, but these are the most engaged people in the Digg community. It took me a lot of time and commitment to interacting with fellow Diggers to develop relationships that successfully result in 'popular' front page stories. But it's the camaraderie/reciprocity that makes the current version worthwhile.
I see the financial value for Digg to ceding influence to content producers, but if it doesn't retain the ability of its most dedicated users to feel they're valued the website risks becoming TwitBook and seeing many robust, innovative content aggregators/nonmainstream producers head for greener pastures. If I want a newstream from mainstream media, I'll just use RSS and GoogleReader. But hopefully after feedback a middle ground is possible that can retain Digg's robust community and give some recognition to its users that helped make it so successful.
bille3Jul 1, 2010
There must have been too many patriots that became power users and upset the balance of power in digg. It probably only took one to drive them mad.
cimmerianxJul 2, 2010
This looks more like a Follow your friends site like Twitter instead of a filtered news site. I used the friend suggestions page to filter through news in the different categories.
I don't use facebook, or twitter, or anything like that to follow other people. So basically all the new features are useless. Plus, who wants to follow a big company's suggestions.... it seems it would be all PR about whatever they wanted to push that day.
softsAug 26, 2010
New digg is like stupid Twitter.
Most worst thing that can happened - old Favorites were deleted. My Favorites was major reason why I used digg. Now it is useless. It is like loosing all bookmarks.
