They should be fixed by now.
blink4ever87Aug 2, 2010
restore your phone in itunes and try it again its been fixed.
seraph1982Aug 2, 2010
go to cydia and do updates - they're fixed now
seanwuzhereAug 2, 2010
Awesome. Now iPhones can easily be just as unsecure and open as Android phones. Alpine FTW!
unic0rnAug 3, 2010
What?
A simple 'passwd' can fix the hole. Not that hard.
seanwuzhereAug 3, 2010
Yeah for you and me. But what about all the average joes out there that don't know what that even means,
aluengasAug 3, 2010
Yeah, Apple users having to jump through hoops to get what they want is a bad idea.
They are probably gonna ask me to fix it for them.
dugdug1Aug 2, 2010
Shweet! I downloaded it with an iPhone 4 on the 4.0.0 software and it does everything for you. I'm sorry, above poster, but my MMS and FaceTime work flawlessly. Props to @Comex for making it happen.
/just realized that sounded like a sales pitch. I assure you I'm just another apple fanboy :/
oxdeltaxoAug 2, 2010
The site seems to hang for me, re-trying tells me that the installer crashed.
Can someone help?
hilyinAug 2, 2010
same.
seraph1982Aug 2, 2010
I had this happen a bunch of times - was stuck @ the purple space screen. Got it to work eventually.
- kill the safari process
- in settings, go clear history/cache/cookies multiple times
- reboot
- try this link instead: http://jailbreakme.modmyi.com/
Repeat these steps w/ regular http://jailbreakme.com if the other link I provided doesn't do it for ya. If you get stuck @ purple screen for more than 10 seconds, it's not going to work. When it worked for me, it hesitated for only a second and a half or so before popping up a "downloading" and status bar popup.
acardwell3Aug 2, 2010
I think seraph's way works.
I've also heard several places that the jailbreakme.modmyi.com works because jailbreakme.com's servers are pretty seriously overloaded right now.
Considering the new legality of jailbreaking and how f**king awesome it is to be able to jailbreak without needing a computer. It's pretty damn convenient and this will be one of the first things I do when my iPhone 4 comes in the mail.
mxm111Aug 2, 2010
/No, you sounded exactly like apple fanboy, no worries :/
al3xAug 2, 2010
Ditto. iPhone 4 w/ 4.0.0. No problems. Only issue was when I used Cydia to download an app, it didn't show up on springboard, even after re-springing. I downloaded a 2nd app, and then both showed up. Haven't had any other problems.
fredclownAug 3, 2010
To get native multi-tasking and wallpaper check out this link.

Thanks guys. I got it eventually, never cleared cookies but finally found that alternative link. Thanks modmyi!
bravestdawgAug 2, 2010
It's so awesome that jailbreakme.com is back, this used to be the way to jailbreak way back when and i though it was gone forever once apple patched Safari. Also, if Facetime/MMS is broken apparently updating through Cydia and resetting network settings should help.
aquaosxAug 2, 2010
2+ years is "way back when?"
bravestdawgAug 3, 2010
3 iPhones generations ago seems like "way back when" :)
sonitiAug 2, 2010
If it gets stuck, (stuck at space screen after you slide) Reset your network settings under "General" -> "Reset" -> "Reset Network Settings". It will force a reboot, then go directly to your WIFI settings, enable / connect / WEP or whatever, then open Safari and go straight to jailbreakme.modmyi.com.
Also, make sure all background apps are closed. Worked perfect for me on Iphone 4 / 4.01!
hexrrAug 2, 2010
Thanks, it worked!
praetorianxxAug 2, 2010
Thanks Soniti, that worked for me
MeganTremblayAug 2, 2010
Jailbreak is such a nice software for apple gadgets. With this you can download apps for free over the internet.
How i wish every cellphone can be jailbroken.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

If http://jailbreakme.modmyi.com
Or there is a pdf that you can download (I believe that is the safari exploit). I also read somewhere that you might need iBooks installed. If it keeps on failing try restarting your phone. It should take < 10 seconds to start downloading.
ocelot13Aug 2, 2010
oh the memories of using jailbreakme when i got my 1g ipod touch
timedoutAug 2, 2010
Ah I got it going.... awesome! Anyone want to recommend some Cydia apps to play around with?
richpavAug 2, 2010
3G Unrestrictor.
SBSettings
"Categories" if you want folders without the 12 app limit.
Those are the ones I miss the most, but I will soon have them back!
nanowerxAug 2, 2010
I second SBsettings. Just having the little bar you can swipe to come down that controls wi-fi, 3G, RAM, etc. is worth everything.
I would say MeCanto, but it just went legal a few days ago and is already available in the app store for $3. Worth the price.

I tried repeatedly to get this to work, but always got stuck on the Space screen right after I did the "Slide to Jailbreak".
I tried Reset Network Settings, then re-connected my WiFi after the reboot, and still couldn't get it to go past the Space screen.
So I did a Reset Network Settings...then after the reboot, I immediately went to Safari (this time, I left WiFi off) and it worked the first time.
d4rthv4derAug 2, 2010
I don't see the point in jailbreaking OS4/iPhone 4.
schnikies79Aug 2, 2010

Why would you promote yourself through comments unnecessarily?
You're setting yourself up for some bad digg press
leetleoAug 2, 2010
Works great for me, but does anyone else have slight image corruption on the reboot screen? There is a single line of pixles with what appears to be randomized colors on the reboot screen with the black background and white apple logo. This doesn't affect use of the phone at all but it'd be cool if anyone knows a way to restore it to normal.
3vnoAug 2, 2010
Got that too
captainchrisAug 2, 2010
i have this too. honestly the best thing the iphone has going for it is stability and a clean interface. after jailbreaking, those are compromised.
leetleoAug 2, 2010
Jailbreaking doesn't modify the interface in any way, nor does it introduce any active processes that can affect stability of the phone. After it installs the Cydia app, any interface/stability changes are a direct result of changes the user makes.
This string of pixels on the boot screen is a very minor bug that I'm guessing isn't difficult to resolve.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
tricabAug 3, 2010
The string on the reboot screen isn't a bug, Comex, the jaibreak creator stated that he had to put some code in the video ram for his new jailbreak to work, hence the line of pixels.
If you see that line, it means your jailbreak is working :)
nighthawkcaAug 4, 2010
That's intentional and part of the jailbreak, so says MuscleNerd and Comex. What you're seeing is the code from the PDF, or so I've read on @MuscleNerd and @Comex 's Twitter feeds.
spacebuddyAug 2, 2010
Jailbreak works great, but beware, some of the apps you download call home and monitor your activity :(
acardwell3Aug 2, 2010
Jailbreak apps?
Hell, there are Apple Store apps that monitor everything you do. Half the free ones always spam you with ads or pester the s**t out of you for your current location until you give up.
Also, what the hell is with so many bad comments nowadays??Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Jailbroke fine on mine last night. I am having a problem with itunes uninstalling my apps off installous when I sync the phone.
I have appsync installed.
Any suggestions?
maxxellAug 2, 2010
There were several issues when this first went live. If you jailbroke last night, you probably have those issues. Try doing a full itunes restore and jailbreaking again.

maxxellAug 2, 2010
Servers must be getting RAPED. Digg effect is bad enough, but imagine all the iPhones trying to download at once! OMG!
Seriously, people, wait until tomorrow to try this! (Because I want to try it tonight)
jason221Aug 2, 2010
Uh, they were slammed before the "Digg effect." However, I was able to jailbreak with no problem yesterday using the modmyi mirror. That might be slammed by now, though.
olegovichAug 2, 2010
Soo...this is probably a question for a lot of people, including me:
How would I update my 3GS from 3.1.2jb to 4.0jb (or4.1jb) without losing all my apps and having to restore? Is it possible?
elie195Aug 2, 2010
My suggestion would be to install the Rock app (RockApp) from Cydia from 3.1.2, use that to back up your JB apps (does it automatically when you first open it iirc). Then update to iOS4 from iTunes, jailbreakme.com, and install Rock again to restore your apps.
There are some other ways I'm sure, but I don't think you can do a seamless upgrade without restoring first.
olegovichAug 2, 2010
I dugg you up, thanks for the reply.
I don't get who's digging you down as if they have a better method they're not sharing...
But anyway, is all the hassle even worth it for OS4.0? I mean I think i can do everything 4.0 can on 3.1.2...
Also, I've been kinda skeptical about installing rockapp again since last time I had it one of its updates shut down my phone forcing me to have to restore it. Huge pain in the ass.
elie195Aug 2, 2010
I would update your 3GS to 4.0 if I were in your shoes. Most of the features of iOS4 have been available for JB devices for a while (such as multi-tasking, folders, portrait orientation lock) but iOS4 has that built-in. I don't know about you, but if I have a choice between installing a JB app/plug-in for something compared to having the feature integrated into the OS by Apple, I'll pick Apple. There are some other smaller additions to iOS4 such as tap to focus video recording and such.
If you had a 3G and not a 3GS, I would say don't upgrade, but the 3GS can handle iOS4 just fine.
As far as rockapp, I've heard bad things about it in the past, so I've never used it until today. I installed it so that I could use My3G, and it has worked pretty well so far. I've been using it in tandem with Cydia and haven't had any problems as of yet. The devs that make rockapp are the same ones that make My3G and MyWi if you've heard of those apps.
elie195Aug 2, 2010
I managed to use jailbreakme.com twice last night on an iPhone 4 and a 3GS. Site was down when I tried it later on a friend's 4. I used the mirror: jailbreakme.modmyi.com and it worked fine. So if you're getting stuck at the blank purple screen when trying to JB, I would try and use the mirror instead. Here it is again in case you missed it:
jailbreakme.modmyi.com

I was able to finally jailbreak my ios4 on a 3gs! But I cant download any cydia apps. Is anyone having this issue. Are we overloading their servers? I cant load any data from the cydia app...
delmonteAug 2, 2010
I need MyWi, I love 3G unrestrictor and I like to dabble with console emulators on my iPhone and iPad.
That being said, I certainly hope that Apple patches this as soon as they can because it's a HUGE security hole, and I don't understand why none of the comments in this thread makes any mention of this.
nighthawkcaAug 4, 2010
Not sure why you would want Apple to patch this hole, as that's how you got your phone to be jailbroken in the first place (including using MyWi, etc) ... ?

Be careful, this can open you up to malicious code.
http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=303214
unic0rnAug 3, 2010
No, learn how to read.
"This" does not open you to anything, it simply takes advantage of that hole.
There is nothing you can do for now, apart from applying a patch publicly available that just warns you whenever you're opening a pdf and allows you to not open it.
But for now, you must wait for Apple to patch it.
nightwiseAug 3, 2010
Okay, I have the iPhone 4 and want free apps.
But it seems theres all these bugs that go along with it. Just doesn't seem worth it. Will the problems eventually get worked out? I love my phone now, and don't any risk, delay, crappy screen, or any of that s**t.
I'm sure the risk comes with it, but can't bring myself to do it looking at the comments above.
maxxellAug 3, 2010
Jailbreaking isn't about getting apps for free. It's about getting apps that Apple doesn't want you to have.
And yes, I know you can get commercial apps for free after you Jailbreak. But if you do so, you're a dick and you deserve bugs/viruses. Quit it. Someone worked hard on that app, getting it for free is stealing.
thebassAug 3, 2010
Finally! After I foolishly updated to iOS 4 on my 3GS I was screwed!
Getting stuck at the purple screen?
1. Close JailBreakMe Safari tab
2. Force quit Safari and all other running apps by holding down the app in the multitasking dock
3. Open.. Settings->Safari
4. Change "Accept Cookies" to "Always"
5. Clear Cookies and Clear Cache
6. Start Safari and use the mirror http://jailbreakme.modmyi.com
lambecoAug 3, 2010
This is probably a dumb question, but what's the appeal in Jailbreaking? Is it simply to be out from under the oppressive boot of Steve Jobs and do what you like with your phone?
maxxellAug 3, 2010
Yes. For almost everyone, jailbreaking just allows you to install a new app store. It's called Cydia. There are others, too (Rock).
Now you can install apps that Apple rejected. These apps range from a flashlight app that can actually control the brightness of your home screen, to seriously changing the way your phone works. For instance, you can now use FaceTime over 3G.
There are more advanced things that jailbreaking allows, but given the tenor of your question, this is the answer you need.
lambecoAug 3, 2010
That's what I was looking for. Thanks for the reply.

Wow, getting dugg down for not knowing something. Go figure.
Yes, I want to steal the apps. Are you serious?
1. I said i DIDNT yet, so I can't 'quit' anything.
2. maxxell, I will steal all the f**king apps I want, you hypocrite!
3. What makes the apps listed above so sought after? Simply because Apple won't support?
