I would trust them even less than other women drivers. (I'm a very good driver. Yeah, def-definitely a good driver.)
amyvernonJul 23, 2010
Chica, you're supposed to have other women's backs in the driving debate, not act like some jackass guy.
mpenetrabletacoJul 23, 2010
Yes, but I'm an exception to the rule and most women do suck ass. Along with everyone on a cell or Asian, etc and all the other stereotypes.
Closed AccountJul 23, 2010
IMO the bad women drivers are the ones who put on cosmetics while on the road. The ones that don't mess with their eyeliner drive just fine.
akairennJul 24, 2010
To be honest, I'd trust a woman driver over a male driver any day of the week.
Look, the insurance industry is a brutal profit machine fueled on puppies and the shattered dreams of children. I'm going to trust their math behind giving chicks cheaper rates on insurance.
ivanmarshJul 24, 2010
Way to prove women don't have a sense of humor.
shadyspaceJul 24, 2010
I'm siding with MpenetrableTaco because she's attractive.
marx2kJul 24, 2010
Eh, sorry but women treat cars like a fashion accessory and driving as an afterthought to a cell phone call.
zerocubedJul 24, 2010
I'm a woman and I'm pretty anal about driving safely. I refuse to eat or drink any food while driving, I won't change the radio while driving, I don't even like talking or listening to music while driving lest I get distracted.
my mother on the other hand....

ZeroCubed,
Exactly. For every ditz that applies cosmetics while driving there is a very cautious and competent female driver.
trainofthought6Jul 24, 2010
I know some girls who are great drivers, and some who are downright scary. Same as anything I guess.
ihaspowersJul 24, 2010
I would trust them more than any women driver, because they rely on logic.
1. Male drivers
2. Computer driven drivers
3. Women drivers

Makes me wonder how many rednecks will think that these ans are driven by "ghosts" or "spirits" lol
beshirthappyJul 23, 2010
Or kids. When my son was only 2 (almost 3), we were driving down a busy interstate and passed a car that was being pulled along behind a uhaul trailer, and our son thought it was a ghost driving it. :-)
darkphenoxJul 24, 2010
Imagine seeing that high as f**k, that would not be a good day.
faithclubdotnetJul 24, 2010
They're autobots that forgot to turn on their holographic driver.
siszamJul 24, 2010
Yes, because only rednecks believe in a life after this.

derelictionJul 24, 2010
Clearly, the rednecks would think that the rapture had begun and would crash their own vehicles as they gaze skyward, looking for Jebus's return.
samslaterJul 23, 2010
How will the vehicle's OS speak to the hardware?
ivanmarshJul 24, 2010
Through the hardware abstraction layer obviously.

tinypic sucks. i linked directly to the image and it's a bunch of ads larger than my image. next time i'll use something else.

still more respectable than f**kers who can't manage a manual gearbox.
ivanmarshJul 24, 2010
There is a vast difference between "Intelligent" and "autonomous". Don't get me wrong, Go-go gadget robots! But please, let's not forget what real intelligence is.
glazJul 24, 2010
I eh, LIKE, driving. I use my own legs to walk too. Crazy, I know.
effoffpunkJul 24, 2010
wow get with the times man, bipedal motion is so 20th century
anomaly100Jul 24, 2010
1500 miles of walking? Interesting.

I, for one, welcome our new bright orange driverless van overlords.

Should be banned or at least require every single driver in a country where they are moving around to approve their use. No one should be involuntarily forced to expose their lives to automation inserted to extremely risky everyday situation. With actual human driver there is always a factor in decision that if accident happens, driver will be hurt in proportion to it. With no one to be hurt in automated vehicle, that significant risk management factor is out. Another possibility is eye-for-an-eye right of anyone (or their families) vs. designers (all of them) if anything bad happens. They cause accident with me - I have right to injure every single one of people involved in design in a similar way at my choice of time and place. Worth for Military use, nothing else.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

There are people inside who have ability to take control when needed (eg. border passing), in fact that's the point of the trip (finding when human interaction is needed).
Closed AccountJul 24, 2010
Actual people, who get tired, who get distracted, who even drive drunk, are WAY more likely to drive erratically than a computer system whose programmers and designers know that the system has to drive immaculately to satisfy the illogical worries of Luddites like you.
keanureavesJul 24, 2010
It's funny to think that we wont need truck drivers in the future. Considering the population is growing bigger, and more jobs are becoming obsolete every day, it should be interesting to see what jobs will emerge as a result.
faithclubdotnetJul 24, 2010
In the future wars will be fought by robots. Your duty is clear: To build and maintain those robots.
trainofthought6Jul 24, 2010
If we can build robots to fight for us, why can't we build robots to build and maintain those robots?
zerocubedJul 24, 2010
In the future, we won't need drivers, just car babysitters.
After all, the van can surely follow satellite directions and feedback. But it would take human intelligence to solve any potential problems, as well as protect any precious cargo. Fortunately, this won't require any more or less education than current driving requires. We're still good to go.
nyx210Jul 24, 2010
Many unskilled laborers can be replaced by robots. I wonder what will happen to those that either flunk out of school or can't afford higher education.
ryanhaynJul 24, 2010
That thing is gonna end up one fuct up looking graffiti mural with popped tires.

Everyone was passing an suv at a stoplight i was at today. I drove up next to him and looked inside and the guy was just sleeping. I thought he was dead. Someone knocked on his window and woke him up and then the cops showed up hehe.
ravenlarkJul 24, 2010
There will be people behind the wheel though, to take over at a moment's notice if need be.

In Soviet Russia, car drive you!

Is it Soviet Russia?
mikeman10001Jul 24, 2010

herostratusJul 24, 2010
Isn't this how Skynet gets started?
OK team, I'm taking over here. We need units running roadblocks all along the Russian border. Concentrate forces on the shared border with Ukraine as they will be most likely to breach there. Do not fire until you have confirmed there is no driver. As soon as the first one is down take cover as the second one upon realizing that its mate has been destroyed may decide to take action and rush you. Get to some type of high ground and blast the motherf**kin s**t out of that drone.
Once the OP is complete, everyone head down to the Yellow Moon cafe in Terneuzen Netherlands. Doobies and coffee all around!
anomaly100Jul 24, 2010
Weird. It would be even weirder if CYLONS were driving. I challenge their weirdness.
scarycloudsJul 24, 2010
While I think software can be developed that can allow an automated car to drive safely while on a highway, I just don't see that happening in a city, at least not any time soon. There are just too many exceptional cases that occur in city driving, most of them resulting from intersections and pedestrians. Perhaps if all cars were automated it could work, but that won't be happening anytime soon (and also leads to a chicken and egg scenario).
atroaciousJul 24, 2010
At least its safer then women drivers, or worse Asian women drivers.
