Conclusions drawn from this article:
1. Apple's approval process is stupid.
1a. Android's apps need no approval, making their store more awesome.
2. Wal-mart has a high ratio of disgusting patrons.
strictneinAug 3, 2010
Making fun of poor people is awesome.
princetrunksAug 3, 2010
peopleofwalmart.com has capitalized on #2 since it is all too true that they are comically disgusting
xdeliriumxAug 3, 2010
People of Walmart is as American as you can get. To ban it is to ban America.
bungdiddyAug 5, 2010
Banning things has become pretty American over the years too.

"It'll make the store a better place."
It would be better with nudity and rudeness.

AMERICA! F**K YEAH!

The App Store being censored isn't the problem. The problem is the App Store is the only way to get applications on the iPhone without jail breaking and voiding the warranty.
roebeetAug 3, 2010
Dugg for truth.
uncwidiotAug 3, 2010
You do realize a lot of approved apps are just wrappers for their websites like the one in the article right?
pathouston22Aug 3, 2010
I'm glad I use a phone where NOBODY censors what I can or cannot install on it.
Think different.
mbst2000Aug 3, 2010
Yes, because the iPhone specifically banned peopleofwalmart.com when you use Safari, and you absolutely cannot get exactly the same content through RSS readers like Reeder.
Nazis, f**king Cupertino Nazis, I wonder how they sleep at night.

The point is not that you can access the site, it is that they banned an application that presents the same in a much nicer phone-friendly format.
Top marks for invoking Godwin's Law.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
mbst2000Aug 3, 2010
Uh, I used to subscribe to People of Walmart through an RSS reader App, that presented it in a pretty phone friendly format.
Mind you, say they did approve this app, wouldn't you be one of the people saying "big deal, most of the apps in the app store are just clones of websites and fart apps."?
if the author of people of walmart wants it to be easily viewable on a phone, maybe they should just code their site to do just that, it's not exactly a complex web site is it?
bungdiddyAug 5, 2010
I use a phone that doesn't run "apps." I'm even more different than you.
cbeachAug 23, 2010
pathouston22: "I'm glad I use a phone where NOBODY censors what I can or cannot install on it."
I suspect you use a phone where Google can remotely remove your applications without a moment's warning ...
But hey.. I'm sure you're different and special in other ways
jeffabsAug 3, 2010
As a software developer, I can't imagine why anyone would ever risk putting any work into an app and then just throw it over the app store's wall with their fingers crossed.
4ndr01dAug 3, 2010
largest paying app store
there is absolutely no one making money in the Android market
dreadpirateAug 3, 2010
"Abosolutely no one"?
I find that hard to believe considering the number of paid apps in the market, including ones from major companies as well as individual developers. Can you back that claim up with any source?
thechauvinistAug 3, 2010
I found this article that discusses the comparison.

Buried for "we must not visit that which offends the great Jobs" craziness.

hmmm... wonder if this guy is a fanboy?
dadumtishAug 3, 2010
Jobs is control freak who treats his customers (devs included) like morons. The approval process doesn't provide any more safety than the Android market. You can see that by the amount of hidden (forbidden) functionality that makes it to the app store and later gets pulled. (see the tethering/color picker app)
We quit developing for the iPhone a few months back. Switching to Android was like a breath of fresh air. No need to cross your fingers, bend over and spread the ass cheeks every time you release an update.

What are the names of the app's you developed?
dadumtishAug 4, 2010
Why don't I just give you my name and address instead to save you time.
mockylockAug 3, 2010
Wal-Mart sells millions of Apple products. It was cut because they didn't want to piss them off... really f**king stupid, imho, but apple is the Gestapo like that.
mbst2000Aug 3, 2010
For f**k's sake....
Adjust the tin foil hat pal, they can see you from space you know.
mockylockAug 4, 2010
My bad. Apple does no wrong.
Can I borrow your f**king kneepads, weasel nuts?
tdclark23Aug 3, 2010
I also wonder if Apple wants their Appstore to be the one-stop shop, the WalMart of phone apps. That might explain why making fun of WalMart might be frowned upon.
The Shoppers of Appstore wouldn't be as funny.

Oh God I can smell the ironic t-shirts and day-old Pabst Blue Ribbon already.

And all this time I just thought it was Steve Jobs + dartboard. Go figure.
etx313Aug 3, 2010
This is why I gave up on iPhone development.
jumboj3tAug 3, 2010
Not that I don't think that Apple's censoring process is stupid-- it is incredibly stupid-- but any article with "Apple" and "Gizmodo" in the title should basically be taken with a grain of salt. Gizmodo essentially hates Apple, remember.
fuzi0ndetAug 3, 2010
I'm no lawyer but it sounds like what Apple is doing is on some what legally shaky ground. I hope there is some sort of class action lawsuit formed by developers of rejected apps. I'm going to hold off on upgrading to the iphone 4 now because of this type of bull s**t. I don't suppose anything is going to change in the near future though.
supernova36Aug 3, 2010
The approval process is two novelty dippy drinking birds alternately hitting Y and N.
spazzcatAug 3, 2010
They get complaints they pull the app
They get complaints they put it back
repeat...
thejacknutAug 3, 2010
Awww. Giz is still all butthurt about getting caught w/ their hands in Apple's cookie jar.
mbst2000Aug 3, 2010
OK, just so everyone gets this. Since the iPhone has a f**king browser n' all. You can look at this stuff all you want. So some developer didn't get his s**tty app through the approval process. How many would've wasted money on it anyway? Why just replicate what you can get through the browser? Surely an app that intends to be successful should offer more.
Oh I'm sorry where are my manners. Blah, blah..Sheeple, control freak...I support another massive multinational company that's better than your favourite multinational company...freedom of choice...on a f**king phone...I'm practically Che Guevara when I buy Android....
Folks, it's a phone, vote with your money if you don't like it. Are there going to be legions of people returning their iPhones because someone couldn't make a people of walmart app?
chrismurphyAug 4, 2010
It is not an App Store. It is a Monostore.
cbeachAug 23, 2010
Oh Gizmodo, please get over your Apple thing. You're starting to look like the moody teenager of the blogosphere.
termousadkaJan 29, 2012
It's less schizophrenic behavior and more typical female behavior. The rapid changes in opinion seemingly based on mood. The irrational explanations for it's actions. The ability to play victim for no reason and have thousands of White Knights battling each other to come to it's aid...
Apple is clearly a very high-maintenance woman, always taking and seldom giving wrapped in a package that is flashy attractive and yet impractical.
It takes a special brand of denial to remain absolutely faithful to her, but she's secure in the knowledge that if you ever dump her there are literally millions of other rubes out there willing to drop their cash on her.
