Those damn communist dictators!!
Oh no................
eddiepotatoAug 11, 2010
Google should retaliate by only collecting street view images in N Korea.
codenamepenrynAug 11, 2010
RTFA, its South Korean offices they raided.
h3110Aug 11, 2010
Uhh... he did say it was the South Korean offices that they raided. Did you even read his comment?
codenamepenrynAug 11, 2010
His comment originally said "They should only do Google Streetview in North Korea in retaliation." before he deleted it. This means that he thought that it was North Korea that raided the offices.
Closed AccountAug 11, 2010
or it means that in retaliation to the south, they should only offer their service to the north... hey ambiguity!

tiptup300Aug 11, 2010
I really wish they would keep doing it. They only went down like one street in my city. >_> It sucks.

mistakenly gathered wireless Internet data, haha yeah right.
i keep hearing it but what so called personal data are they collecting?
i haven't seen jack s**t.
their just taking pictures and labeling buildings with addresses, whats the problem there??Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
Closed AccountAug 11, 2010
In the UK it's illegal to take photographs of certain buildings, they have used the anti terrorism laws to prosecute individuals in the past.
My question is; why has the people responsible for Google street view not been dragged before the courts for the very same offenses???

valkyriesAug 11, 2010
they don't drive anywhere near the buildings in question?
jmrocketAug 11, 2010
And this was supposed to be GOOD Korea? f**k
caseyd1020Aug 11, 2010
Bah! South Korea should sit back and let us probe them throughly. Perhaps the US should stop guarding the boarder, and it could just be called "Korea, Brought to you by The Great Leader Kim Jung Il"Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
StrutThatAssAug 11, 2010
Americans are the biggest apologists when it comes time to excuse Google for violation on our privacy. It's funny.
valkyriesAug 11, 2010
people expect privacy when they are out in public?
StrutThatAssAug 11, 2010
Haha! Here's one apologist, lessening illegal wiretapping to being out in public.
kingbpdAug 11, 2010
Haha! Here's one communist who doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground.
kingbpdAug 11, 2010
Oh, North Koreans are communist? Whoopsie.
bitburnerAug 11, 2010
@StrutThatAss People who care about their privacy so much shouldn't have open unencrypted wireless networks. Do you even know what this is really about? It is because they used a wireless sniffer to collect MAC addresses (Media Access Control) to help with location services in the future (There are some open hot spots that are legit like a coffee houses or bookstore etc and not some idiots who don't know how wireless or computers work) The problem is when you collect a packet just for a mac address it has a little data in it too. They didn't discard or strip out the data so this is what people are freaking out about. It is not like they were hunting for information on private networks or trying to steal passwords. These were public, open, unencrypted, wireless networks. I think it comes down to the law it will come down to intent. Their intent is obvious, it was to collect mac addresses to help with location awareness when GPS was not present. If you disagree tell me what you think their intent was?
I'm not being an apologist I just actually know what i'm talking about. You on the other hand...well for me it all starts with your name and goes downhill from there. Ignorance is bliss I guess but I wouldn't know.

Thank you street view! http://www.streetviewfun.com/2007/camel-toe/

There's a Korean company named Daum that has maps, along with 'street view', just like Google. This isn't about privacy; its about money.

immunofortAug 11, 2010
Did you read the article?
The issue of privacy isn't concerning the street view images themselves, its concerning the so called "private data" that was collected.
daimposterAug 11, 2010
than why collect the street view images?
culytAug 11, 2010
Actually I'm betting it's more about letting the Korean .gov get access to a large amount of information. They basically have total access to heaps of Google data and there's no real way to ensure that it doesn't get into the hands of whatever the equivalent of the Korean NSA/CIA is.
mabakerbrakerAug 11, 2010

When i see words like 'raid' in the title is it correct to assume the kind of door-busting swat kind of operation i currently am thinking of, or is it more like a unannounced investigation?
akairennAug 11, 2010
It was the MMOG type.
The Google employees in Korea drop bitchin' loot.
censormagnetAug 11, 2010
good, with all the comments lately about how google is collecting private wifi communications on their street view vehicles, logging wifi points.. and then today seeing articles about how google CEO says privacy/anonymity is going bye bye because government wants to know everything about is.... something needs to be done to strike back at this monster
do no evil (evil defined by government.. )
corrected: do what government says
