i'm really surprised apple approved this app
thetronAug 5, 2010
There a few SIP/VoIP apps that have been approved for some time. I use Softphone myself for making calls over 3g at landline rates
sungod228Aug 6, 2010
I'm not you have to have a phone plan to have the phone to begin with. They are making their money.
s0nicfreakAug 6, 2010
No you don't.
sungod228Aug 6, 2010
Just got off the phone with AT&T customer support:
Voice and Data plans are required on all iphones. Unless you are def then you have to fill out and send it disability paperwork to get voice removed.
And they got rid of pay-as-you-go plans because of people hijacking the phones.
Oh btw they got rid of unlimited data plans (http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9177598/AT_T_dumps_iPhone_unlimited_data_plan_adds_tethering%29
So yes you do have to have at least a $40 a month voice plan + 2gig per month data plan at $25 all with a nice 2 year contract. I would say they are getting their money.
rettocsAug 5, 2010
Wow this could get very big, seeing as how so many people already use facebook as a contact list.
shooverAug 5, 2010
I like this kind of progress, but really fear the proliferation of Facebook...
tmonster1Aug 5, 2010
This is really good for Vonage and Facebook
deathweaver108Aug 5, 2010
Good. I trust Facebook with a record of who I call, and when I call them. I also trust them to not listen in on any of these calls.
geddonAug 6, 2010
I can see them rubbing their evil little Facebook hands together just salivating over the opportunity to listen in on deathweaver108's calls.
Closed AccountAug 6, 2010
It's highly unlikely that they'll be able to listen into your calls, since the chances of the calls going through Facebook's servers are pretty slim.
nerfdudeAug 5, 2010
Seeing Android before iOS in the submission title made me smile. That's all.
bobdigiAug 6, 2010
Save the best for last.
nerfdudeAug 6, 2010
with spin like that, you could work for Fox.
geddonAug 6, 2010
200,000 Android activations per day is bound to land you at the front of the line.
hunzoloAug 5, 2010
wow... another Skype... erm...

'Reply' appears under each comment for a reason, just so you know.
You also missed the obvious, thus invisible /s.
defwheezerAug 5, 2010
You damn kids GET OF MY LAWN!!!
jarshtAug 5, 2010
They're probably only doing this because Diaspora is coming out soon and claims it will do the same without raping your information.
zeigyAug 5, 2010
Doesn't this work just like when they banned Skype? Someone enlighten me.
cordelia89Aug 5, 2010
I don't know about everyone else with an iphone but when I "bought" my facebook app I can call people from it. How is this app different from that?
crimsonblurAug 5, 2010
I don't think you understand. This makes VOIP calls through Vonage, so you are not using your mobile minutes while making these calls.
cordelia89Aug 6, 2010
there's fring and skype for that.
truckondoAug 5, 2010
It doesn't use up your plans minutes. Just your data.
skinny01Aug 5, 2010
So can we assume that they will record all calls and have them available to any apps you have installed to listen to in order to gather more consumer info? That would be in line with their business model.
zeigyAug 12, 2010
Let's face it. Do any of our facebook profiles REALLY have anything that people would be interested in?
geenopeAug 5, 2010
what about symbian?...:'( nobody develops apps for that though so i suckered myself into buying a nokia x6
tubbymcgeeAug 5, 2010
I am so tired of facebook.
bancanAug 5, 2010
Then don't use it. No need to bitch about it.
Closed AccountAug 5, 2010
Both people have to have the app to be able to use this. How is this different from using Skype (without the facebook limitation) when both people have the program (as opposed to calling an actual number). This is just stupid marketing to try and get in on the facebook crowd.
johnyboy3000Aug 6, 2010
This is pretty cool stuff, but who has a crappy enough phone plan on any network to actually benefit from this? I guess just phone chatty teens but most text nowadays nowadays and free text apps are everywhere. I think its a cool idea but don't see a large group for this to cater towards, course most facebook addicts will get anything with facebook attached to its name. Umm. Blackbery -erry -erry -erry? Echo echo echo.
s0nicfreakAug 6, 2010
Get a new phone
beinssAug 6, 2010
Hm. Well this app is awesome. But if you have an iPhone and your calling someone else with an iPhone your already not spending minutes given that its mobile to mobile calling. But Id really love for this to go to blackberry users as it has with Android so itll be more usefulComment is buried, click here to see the rest.
s0nicfreakAug 6, 2010
You're assuming everyone with an iPhone is using the normal plan/service...
danhaukAug 6, 2010
This app also works with Android, which could be on a different network.
Oh, and... *you're

wowhesawesomeAug 6, 2010
now i can get genuine telemarketing calls from third parties, similar to the quality on screen spam we can thank facebook for. Personally, i can't wait to hear about exciting new offers from genericsurvey.com
decoynumber52Aug 6, 2010
or as an Android users you can just represent Google Voice inside the US, and i mean how many people actually call outside the US that live there? not many
buttu4uAug 6, 2010
VoIP is cool. and have another app that can make calls is not that much fun but the thing they are giving us calling Facebook Contact list. that is something to look forward to. Aren't we all use Facebook? that makes it much for fun.
Now i will be looking forward to the security issues that will be arising pretty soon. People will be posting issues concerning privacy etc etc. How they tackle that is the question?
