Where's theblender
Closed AccountJul 14, 2010
Who needs a blender as I accidentally knock it while it's plugged in and snap the USB head clean off.
chromavitaJul 14, 2010
Or f**k up the port on your computer.
deafbeatJul 13, 2010
Awesome, now i want one.
moducJul 14, 2010
After you get it, I'll volunteer to test it for you.
flyblackboxJul 13, 2010
It's like the best way to smuggle sensitive intelligence data overseas!
Other than a hundred ways using the internet..
bluehouseJul 14, 2010
But is the Internet conveniently suppository shaped?
ksudesignerJul 14, 2010
I'd think that if you're smuggling sensitive data, you might not want it to be indestructible. If you're caught with it you have no way of getting rid of the evidence.
mizuhochanJul 14, 2010
But you can hide it in your stomach, with no fear of digesting it.
doctechnicalJul 14, 2010
Because no one would think to look for intelligence data on a thumbdrive. Brilliant!
schroederJul 13, 2010
Are people really having trouble not pulverizing normal USB keys?
dognadzJul 13, 2010
I enjoyed the F-Zero music.
lvaneedeJul 14, 2010
lol, mac
kronos6948Jul 14, 2010
Will it blend?
gozrothJul 14, 2010
That is the question.
ladfrombradJul 14, 2010
Don't breathe this!
tom66Jul 14, 2010
Wait, this isn't iSmoke... this is 3G smoke!
abadpersonJul 14, 2010
It is weak when it is uncapped.
scuba7183Jul 14, 2010
I do, but I still agree
sanwapartsJul 14, 2010
Great now I just remembered I have to finish FFXIII
bubble666Jul 14, 2010
I'm not finishing it :(
Mavic007Jul 14, 2010
WILL IT BLEND?
almostwoJul 14, 2010
that is the question
zannaduJul 14, 2010
Very cool, but a flash drive I got for free at Staples made it through the washer and dryer, so that's probably good enough for me.
solkreJul 14, 2010
I would suggest you not trust that drive anymore.
zannaduJul 14, 2010
Haha, good point... I have an external HD I use for important things I transport instead.
QxzkjpJul 14, 2010
Dugg down for not understanding how rugged flash memory is.
solkreJul 14, 2010
It's called buried. Which I did to you for not understand what rust is.
baja01Jul 14, 2010
Solkre, care to tell me what Iron based metals flash drives contain?
Water does pretty much nothing to most unpowered electronics. Let it dry out and it wont even know it was wet.
antdudeJul 14, 2010
How about nuking it?
dgafaunJul 14, 2010
We used to use LaCie products at my company, until we realized that their fail rate was about 90% with their external hard drives. Hopefully this 'indestructible' flash drive doesn't suffer the same problem
funkywitdasystmJul 14, 2010
everywhere i've ever worked, everyone hates lacie drives. high fail rate, etc. i do't know what's going on with MY experience, but i've had 6 lacie drives over the years, and i've never EVER had one fail. i use them for 3-5 years before upgrading (currenlty, i'm using a 6 y/o 250GB drive, and it's as great as it ever was).
what does this mean? why have i never experienced this fail-rate? honestly, i'd like some feedback, as if they're so bad, i must be some weird statistical anomaly.
dgafaunJul 15, 2010
It's really hard to say what caused these failures as they happen on our clients end, and we just end up RMA'ing them. We used them mainly as server backups and video surveillance storage, and most if not all have had to be replaced. The problem is almost always power related, as their power supplies are terrible, but they've been known to have defective chips inside the enclosures, and the hard drives within the enclosures have just stopped becoming responsive altogether. So what does it mean? It means our customers either take very poor care of the drives, or you've had a good run with them. I'm leaning towards the latter.
I do have one good thing to say about LaCie though: they've got some really good tech support :p
wehrmanwebJul 14, 2010
I'm sitting with the 2TB LaCie Bigger Disk Extreme (we have 3 of them) sitting next to me. 3 out of the 3 external power supplies have gone bad...
fredfredricksonJul 14, 2010
We've got all LaCie drives here at my work, and we have to replace them an awful lot.
But every hard drive is going to have a 100% fail rate, given enough use / time, so I'm not sure if they fail more or less than what is average. We use them an awful lot. I wouldn't buy one personally I guess... none of the drives I've ever used in any of my home rigs have ever failed as often as the LaCie's here.
thahmzJul 14, 2010
10-ton metric or imperial? Quite misleading...
Closed AccountJul 14, 2010
Problem, MOST people damage their thumb drive while it is inserted into a USB plug. Usually the USB part of the drive is snapped off. Thats what I've seen happen 90% of the time for thumb drive failure.
nishanthkJul 14, 2010
well in this case, you'll just snap off the USB slot on your computer.
seabass1Jul 14, 2010
But my question is, will it help you run Crysis?!

How about that big f**king cheetos ad that obscures the front page of digg, huh? Classy stuff there digg.
miketJul 14, 2010
you mean the one you have to click to expand?
Closed AccountJul 15, 2010
that's the one.
runwithscissorsJul 14, 2010
Don't know why you're burying @dgafaun, the root of every one of my company and my friend's company failed drive systems was a LaCie. I think they look awesome, look tough, but the guts are crap and that's all my data cares about.
llammapandacatJul 14, 2010
Does it stop itself from being lost or forgotten?
rockynJul 14, 2010
I'll take two please!
misterymeatJul 14, 2010
I'm thinking that if it's being run over by trucks it just may be a goner.
Still waiting for a version that reassembles itself when destroyed and finds it's own way home.
8bitgamingJul 14, 2010
Now I need to watch the Iron Giant.
tom66Jul 14, 2010
Will it Blend?
smokeydabearJul 14, 2010
I'd like to see them drop it from a tall building.

jsutherJul 14, 2010
Yeah, but who want to lug that around during the zombie apocalypse?
biv2891Jul 14, 2010
these comments SUCK !!!
solkreJul 14, 2010
As someone on the site commented. It's still LaCie, so time and normal use will kill it fast.
tinkafooJul 14, 2010
Unplug it without safely ejecting it.
Short it out with jumper cables hooked up to a car battery.

digg makes people stupid.
zbeastJul 14, 2010
Getting lost or having it stolen from my desk is usually how my USB keys fail.
clinojimJul 14, 2010
That Ford truck is maybe 8000 pounds tops, not 10 tons.
smity9384Jul 14, 2010
I thought that was sorta funny too. The truck is 4 tons tops AND it is being run over by a tire...so the full 4 tons is definitely not on it.
Putting it in a 10 ton shop press would have been cooler.
tie23Jul 14, 2010
LaCie? Am I the only one who went "OH! Final Fantasy XIII" when I read it?
TroTroTro1Jul 14, 2010
makes me want a Fal'Cie ExtremKey! It'll be even MORE extreme!
penclnckJul 14, 2010
Toss it in the microwave and see how it does.
