Bravo for social networking tools!
beshirthappyNov 2, 2010
It can be used for good or evil... it depends on the user. And kudos to those who use it for good. :-)

Glad Social Networking was able to help these people.
norman619Nov 2, 2010
I would argue it wasn't "social networking" that saved them but having internet access.
youseinaviNov 2, 2010
Simply having the internet wouldn't help in some of those cases. The social networking aspect is key in situations like finding a donor for the baby with the rare marrow type. Sure, they could have forwarded thousands of e-mails or made a website and hoped for word-of-mouth to get around, but popular social networks can makes things like that well-known around the world in a matter of weeks, if not days.
norman619Nov 2, 2010
Yes it would. If they can log into Facebook they can send txt messages and emails to people for help.
youseinaviNov 2, 2010
...Facebook IS a social network. Without it, they wouldn't have such easy access to all their friends' information. You just disproved your own point.
norman619Nov 2, 2010
LOL!!! You fail at logic. I said if you can access facebook you can also sens SMS messages. You do know SMS doesn't require you to use Facebook or anything else right? Also I have my cell connected to my email so I can email everyone I know if need be. I can also send them text messages. Again w/o needing to use any social network.

You're right. If I'm ever in an accident and have access to the Internet, I hope I remember how to use telnet.
norman619Nov 2, 2010
Ever hear of email or SMS? Oh yeah the only thing available on internet is telnet. You obviously have no clue so stick to having to log into your social networks. LOL!!!

I dont mean to nit-pick because these are great stories, but half of these people died anyway. So this list could equally be titled "times when social networking helped find bodies".
jumboj3tNov 2, 2010
So, that's now
7 times when social networking saved lives
and
943,345,345,238,348,991,043 times when social networking didn't save lives.
norman619Nov 2, 2010
It's kinda like finding the few ways a pencil saved lives.
