It is quite illegal, if there are witnesses, to threaten to kill someone.
There were multiple witness to his statements.
That is enough to get a warrant to search is property. They also found evidence that he had researched prior shootings, which shows and confirms intent.
Child pornography was found on his PC, which is also illegal.
As much as the author of the article would like you to believe, I really don't see him spending much time in jail for this at all depending on whether he has a prior criminal history.
Then again with a name like "Ali Saad", he might get labeled a terrorist.

I am a hard-core libertarian and I think the authorities should be all over someones business when death-threats are involved.

As for his child porn, it's well known that /b/ is full of trolls. Any troll knows that the best way to troll a thread is to post child porn in it, because A) it gets all the pedos fired up, B) it ruins the thread, which is the point of trolling, and C) it's actually not as disturbing as the other stuff that gets posted there. Seriously. You wouldn't believe some of the crap that people have stored in their /b/ folders.
